Who voted this down? I voted it up because it is one of the most inspiring and informative articles I've read on teaching during this pandemic.

It should go green.

What are "marginalized students"? Is that new code for Special Ed? Article really dances around the subject.

Many of our students are refugees from Ukraine, Somalia, and South America. We have countless students who have experienced various forms of trauma, such as homelessness, poverty, and hunger.

Thanks. I agree that there's a real danger of a lot of children just getting no education at all for the better part of a year. Teachers should be reporting students that don't participate in online learning the same way they would if they just didn't show up to school for a couple weeks. At least that way, someone can look into it and let parents know that they need do see to their child's education somehow. And we need to make sure that there is some plan in place to make sure that it's possible no matter what the home situation is.

Any student that doesn't fit the norm is marginalized.  A lone minority child in a class can have as difficult a time as a kid with emotional issues.  One boy in a class of girls is definitely going to be on the margins.  Yeah, that can happen in gymnastics or cheerleader elective classes.  Especially if he is as agile and flexible as the girls.

If someone looks as the situation and thinks something is odd, there's usually a marginalized person that could use some support, in whatever form.  Tutoring, mentoring, or being a friend.

Lots of fellow farker teachers did not show up to discuss this. Unfortunate.

Thanks, modmins for greening it.

Fortunately, my cabal has read it and are actively discussing via email. Life is good.
