Know this about the Lincoln Project or this Republican or any Never Trumper:

They are still Republicans.

They still blame the poor for being poor.  They blame the sick for getting sick.

They believe the rich suffer.  White people suffer.  "Christians" suffer.  Gun owners suffer.

They believe black people and women have advantages over white Christians in America.  That white privilege is a myth.

They still hate brown immigrants.  They still hate black people who get uppity or otherwise don't know their place.  They still hate women who don't know their place.

They are the coat and tie version of the Klan and would send someone to your grandma's house to kill her in her sleep if it meant another tax cut.

flondrix: If Mormons have issues with Trumps character and behavior--as the supposedly did back in 2016--they could have run a Mormon candidate, as they did in 2016, to give Mormons an acceptable alternative.  And deny Trump Utah's 9 electoral votes.

Fun fact, in 2016, in Utah, I voted for McMuffin because I thought dissatisfied Mormons would vote for him before they would vote for Clinton, and thus had a better chance of keeping our electors from Trump with him rather than with her. Didn't work out, but I still think my underlying logic was sound, just not enough of the Mormons ended up jumping ship.

None of these people have earned trust, but if you cannot learn over the course of your life than you have wasted what opportunities you've been given. Everyone starts from a different place. Maybe this guy was fed stupid-ass nonsense from birth and is finally realizing that following those fairy tales blindly ends in something horrific.

I'm not going to call someone a hero for making the blindingly obvious choice to try to save this country from oblivion, but if they're walking with us right now that's better than the alternative.

Can we get a "rats leaving a sinking ship" tag?

Maybe a piece of cheese that says "Rats"

But I saw on Fox News from their paid contributors that it was in fact the Dems who are "walking away"

Well they do. But more importantly, they are the more liberal of the 2 major newspapers here, so it isn't a surprise if the replies aren't a bunch of unhinged derp. For that, you might want to drop by The Deseret News. Additionally, Mormons are a pretty polite bunch for the most part. No, not 100% of the time, but nobody is. Generally though, they're almost ridiculously nice. Just look at the South Park episode, that was pretty on target.

I will be voting early with a mail-in ballot for the Biden/Harris ticket. I encourage others to do the same.

I sure hope that you at least drop it directly at the Post Office. Even better, one of the direct Poll Boxes they will have set up. But Yay for us in Utah, having mail-in voting be automatic when you register to vote. And Yay for having the option to still vote in-person if that is your wont.

Shostie: weddingsinger: Hero?  Probably not.

Don't forget, he's still a Republican which means he hates the blahs and wants the poors to suffer.

This is something that I've been reflecting on with this and the Lincoln Project.

Does anyone really think these Never Trumpers are going to start consistently voting for Democratic candidates from here on out?

I mean, it's great that they're joining to fight but these are the same assholes as before.

The hardcore republican Never Trumpers, no. The millions of people they influence, maybe.

I can't find the video, but it's one of those RVAT videos, and this lifelong republican, said something that gives me a twinge of hope. She said she was ready to help others, and maybe ready to be a democrat.

Maybe I'm being naive, but odds are, a few may become lifelong democratic, or at least, better republicans. Shifting the republican party left is just as effective as getting them to join the democrats.

Trump only got 45.54% of the vote in Utah in 2016, with McMuffin getting 21.54% of the vote - basically the portion of voting mormons who wouldn't vote for Hillary but didn't want to vote for Trump either.

I don't expect Utah to turn blue any time this century, but Trump's support in Utah has probably eroded.

As for the nevertrumpers, they're infiltrating the democratic party and driving it further to the right.

As I said in my earlier post, they're pretty damned polite and as we already know, religious. His antics already didn't make them happy, as you noted. And it definitely has gone down from there. As red as Utah is, I think I've seen 3 MAGA hats, and only 2-3 trucks with the Trump flag the entire time he's been President. If McMullin ran again, Donnie would probably lose Utah. Not sure how they'll feel about Biden, but McMullin could definitely inflict the damage he tried for the last time.

I'm in Orem. There are plenty of MAGAts down here. I think I'm actually in one of the redder precincts in Orem as well.

There's a dipshiat with a 90's BMW 3-series with the "DPLORABL" or something for his license plate. I've seen the punisher-trump sticker in the wild more than a couple times.

There might not be near as much enthusiastic support as there was 4 years ago. But 538 says trump is currently at 48.2% in utah, 11 points and change above Biden.

But that's the problem.  There is no Mormon Third Option running this time.  Trump will win Utah again, even though this time the Mormons supposedly really do have a problem with him.

It's Utah. They believe that in 1978, God changed his mind about black people.

Yeah, but he never changed His mind about the whole "treat others as you would want to be treated" thing.

So they still got a whole lot of 'splaining when they get to the Pearly Gates.

Well yeah, Utah County is to Utah what Utah is to the rest of the country, but like I said, If McMullin did his thing again, that 48% would definitely drop... Shiat, take just that 21% off, and Trump would only have 27%.

That's pretty funny. We need Edwin back. Trump would lose Utah if he siphoned off the same percentage.

Difficulty: Didn't the Republicans refuse to hold primary elections?

I know, but in its own way, it's satisfying to see Donnie's numbers drop that much. It really gives me hope for the rest of the country. Donnie is only 3 points higher than he was in 2016 and that's without someone to split the ticket. If he'd gotten all of McMullin's votes, that's like an 18%drop.

Primary schmimary.  Last time, The Other Guy ran as a Mormon, not as a Republican.  The Utah vote was substantially split betwen three candidates, not counting the usual Libertarian and Green crap.

But his numbers aren't dropping.  Trump can claim that he did better in Utah this time than last time.  And he probably will.
