This is something that I've been reflecting on with this and the Lincoln Project.

Does anyone really think these Never Trumpers are going to start consistently voting for Democratic candidates from here on out?

I mean, it's great that they're joining to fight but these are the same assholes as before.

All this is most likely true, but, you know, when my house is on fire, with my children still inside, if the asshole neighbor comes over and helps me rescue my kids..I am okay with that.

I have no problem with them fighting beside me right now.

But I will not turn my back to them or trust them outside of my line of sight.

Pretty much; I'm of the mindset they may/will turn back to asshole mode once Biden becomes President.

I'm willing to accept that as much as I am willing to accept their help right now taking Trump down.

Unusually sane comments. One pointed out how it's important that he didn't just say he wasn't going to vote for Trump, but said he was voting for Biden/Harris. That's a big difference, and one that we need to see a lot more of from conservatives that have pull with independents and moderates.

Can't transfer and horde the people's wealth if the republic asplodes.  No doubt they'll be back to whining about socialism in a year or two.

The part of the Republican party represented by the column writers and think tanks is incredibly small. They always thought of themselves as movement makers but they never were. They were just feeding a monster they didn't understand or control. This is too little, too late.

Well, it's going to be incredibly hard to get neoliberals elected from the party of treason and lawlessness. I suppose it's better to take over the only other party in the country and start using it to keep the neoliberal agenda on track.

This question has come up multiple times on Fark.

No, no one thinks they are going to be voting Democrat from here on out.

BUT

I'd like to think that I'd vote republican if the dems were running someone this terrible. I'd be voting for the best choice I had. It doesn't make me a hypocrite if I vote dem the next time. That's what the Lincoln people are doing. They are backing the best choice for the country. If they change their mind next time so be it. So what?

No, the enemy of my enemy is still my enemy, but we can temporarily join together to take out the greater threat, just like we allied with Russia to take down Hitler.

But we never trusted them and we were right not to trust them, as we have all seen for the last 70 years.

But they sure chewed through the Nazis when we needed them to.

The problem is that Democrats love catering to and capitulating to Republicans already, so the actions by the Lincoln Project basically make them honorary Democrats.  Hell, they're already being involved in meetings, because we can't have nice things.

So this is more like your asshole neighbors come help you rescue your kids, and then to thank them, despite years of making your life miserable by harassing you and your children at every opportunity, you give them a set of keys to your house.

It's important to keep in mind, if someone is a never-trumper but still a republican, they reject what has happened in politics over the past 4 years, but they support the conditions and decisions that led to those 4 years.

Sadly, 'this guy', and the Lincoln Project, are necessary *because* the Dems haven't developed these statements themselves.

Imagine how effective an in-house LP would have been if the Dems had started back in January 2016...

If the Democratic Party ran someone as horrible as Trump for President, I would not be a Democrat any longer. It would indicate a fundamental problem in the party that would not be consistent with a functioning democracy.

The problem with the Lincoln Project guys and this guy here is that they preserve the illusion that GOP is a sane party that's been temporarily co-opted by Trump. When in fact it's a domestic terror front funded by oligarchs and has been for a long time.

I'm also unwilling to call someone a hero for coming late to obvious conclusions and only having a partial understanding of the political environment.

Not being a total and complete utter shiat bag, only just mostly being a nearly total and complete utter shiat bag, but dialing back just before actually killing MORE people.

Democrats can't do cutthroat politics, as a general rule, they suck at it.

The LP are a bunch of bastards and SOBs, they know exactly what makes R's tick because they are R's.

If Mormons have issues with Trumps character and behavior--as the supposedly did back in 2016--they could have run a Mormon candidate, as they did in 2016, to give Mormons an acceptable alternative.  And deny Trump Utah's 9 electoral votes.

I'm not sure that dawning sanity deserves a Hero tag, but we are going to see a lot of folks cross the aisle on this one.

No.  Not this.  The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy, no more, no less.

But H. Beam Piper's Calvin Morrison, PSP put it best:

"I would like my enemy to have as many enemies as possible."

Republicans might be forced to stop being racists as demographics change. They'll need the votes. It's inevitable.

But...they'll never stop being the party of "screw the poor", "make the rich richer", and "power for power's sake".

The entire conservative philosophy is based around greed, and a complete lack of compassion. That won't change.

The ONLY reasons we're seeing some Republicans turn on Trump are:

1) His stupidity is starting to affect their pocketbook in a major way
2) His stupidity is starting to hurt the chances of Republicans getting elected

That's IT. The want someone that can get away of the same kind of greedy, hateful rhetoric and policies, but isn't stupid enough to take the Republican party with him.
