Do circus peanuts still exist? I have not seen one in a very long time.

No, YOU make, it subby.

I do not care for jello, pineapple, cool whip nor circus peanuts.

I will not try it, Sam I am.

I've had the version sans circus peanuts and it's not the worst.

But this... this thing is an abomination to the FSM.

farking A right, I love circus peanuts.  It's a secret shame.

Also, where I'm from people still regularly bring ambrosia to parties . And I grew up eating a Cherry Coke jello salad so I'm a lost cause.

We have a lot of international students at the uni where I work in Germany and we usually have a yearly bbq. This year, I had planned to make ambrosia salad (I've never made it, but I thought the students should experience it), but the bbq was cancelled because of corona. :(

Gelatin salads were kind of a thing, when gelatin was hard to make and took a lot of time. Jell-O leaped on it mercilessly, and summoned forth all sorts of abominations with cheap and easy gelatin, but I wouldn't call them exactly "good."

Jell-O salads...you want sweet and cool, not...well...this. Though, give them credit, it IS slightly more involved than throwing Circus Peanuts into a Jell-O mold, so it creeps into Key Lime Pie territory, only without the fresh juice with sugar and condensed milk and a wee bit of gelatin if you're cheating and not using egg yolk. I will say this about the recipe: is less terrifying than tuna or ham aspics at least. This is something you could put in front of kids and they might go for it, just for the bragging rights.

my one great-grandmother always rare-treated us with circus peanuts. and, I don't even mean how awful they already come, like, pre-default-stale? these were super-beyond-stale. except back then? we were dirt poor. we were never allowed candy or even sugar. so we'd get all excited-like! yay, we goin' down the fambly farm and prababu' gon' give us THA CANDIES!!!

als-Kind years of summer school in Hamburg, my fake-family made me a lot of good dishes - "magen Sie Kotelet?" - the hell is kotelet? - "magen Sie Raclet?" - the hell is raclet?! - om nom nom! nom nom nom nom nom nom!!!

but! they also tried on a bunch of nonsensery, which I, only 30 years later, finally realized they were skating on some concept of "american" comfort food. bananas wrapped in ham and fried? sure, why not! (I grudgingly politely ate 1 then promptly uttered suchlike, "i' bin vielleicht so müde, darf i' zu Bett?" - and couldn't help but notice they weren't exactly inhaling their own portions.)

my grandmother's go-to was always:
- lime jello.
- minced raw carrots.
- sometimes shredded iceberg lettuce for "fancy" occasions!
- bundt cake pan.
- sometimes she would forget and also include sliced bananas.
- not-eating it was... not an option.
