Using SARS/MERS as a base still seems a bit hinky but I figure that the overall safety of the vaccine is more on par with what we expect out of a mafia state like this

"Our point to the world is that we have this technology, it can be available in your country in November/December if we work well with your regulator ...  People who are very skeptical will not have this vaccine and we wish them good luck in developing theirs," he said.

Well that doesn't sound extortion-y at all, nosiree

Currency they can get by selling snake oil vaccine to other nations.

Well in a way it's kinda true.

Another country will develop a vaccine first (a reputable country, not Russia or China) and Dotard will turn it down just like he did the W.H.O. Covid tests, and then the US companies will fark up just like Abbot Labs and other companies did with the testing and the virus will continue to rage throughout the US while other countries sit and wonder WTF happened to the US.

/of course, that could change if we actually elect Biden and can clean up around Congress

It's Russia.  It's all a lie.

There is no vaccine, they didn't start on it 6 years ago because it doesn't exist, and they didn't bother to run clinical trials because there's nothing to run trials on.

England has been working on a coronavirus vaccine as well for a while. This isn't the only coronavirus.

I'll only accept this vaccine if it comes with the complimentary undercoating package. Normally that's $500 extra.

2020-08-12 2:14:25 PM
I'm guessing that the recent hacks on vaccine makers in the US were part of the reason Russia made thier decision to approve their vaccine early.

Russia must have determined that Western Pharm companies were closer to achieving good results than they were.  Vlad pushed approval early because they saw another product beating them soon.

2020-08-12 2:14:55 PM
Presumably they mean they've been working on the basic elements of a coronavirus vaccine for humans, which is sensible since it's one of the more common respiratory infections and has already produced a plague once (SARS/MERS).

Obviously they don't mean they've been working on an actual specific vaccine for a strain uncovered in 2019, this is more of a defensive "we do too have the basic infrastructure to do basic medical research.  We're a developed nation, honest" press release than a statement of anything substantive.

2020-08-12 2:15:06 PM
Well this doesn't sound like a manufactured virus deployment does it? Gee and I wonder why Trump isn't concerned about it either. It's almost like it was released and Trump benefits from it somehow. I guess a theory could be that this happened earlier than planned, to have maximum impact on the election. Now the grift is selling the vaccine.

2020-08-12 2:15:06 PM
I'm waiting for the vaccine Dr Fauci says is good.

Da vaccine is full of what you Americans would call Polonium. In Soviet Russia this is perfectly safe vaccination.

Isn't that pretty much what the Oxford one is based on?  They were developing a Corona vaccine and were able to leverage that into a 'fast-track' one for Covid-19 IIRC.

2020-08-12 2:16:15 PM
I mean, there has been a suggestion that having caught other forms of coronavirus helps build up immunity to COVID-19 (a cowpox/smallpox situation.)

Not sure if most scientists are confident enough in that to say "let's just try this other coronavirus strain and see what happens."

2020-08-12 2:16:29 PM
Oh yeah, that sounds totally legit lol. Even better, now Trump is going to say that he has been working on a vaccine for SEVEN YEARS and it will be available before Halloween. Same douche kind of move, different country.

This.  People don't understand the scale of the difference in economic output between US and RU, or California and RU

Population
US 330M
RU 145M
California 40M

GDP
USA $20T
RU $1.7T
California $3.2T

The entire country of Russia has 3-4 times the population of the state of California, but only 1/2 the economic output.  Don't even compare them to the US.  As far as governing and business concerns, Russians are losers.

Today I learned: it sounds like extortion to say that people who refuse foreign medicine out of distrust will not have whatever benefits they would have gained from accepting that medicine.

Somehow other countries are able to make money by being responsible members of the international community and engaging in reputable business practices, even when their only asset is oil.

WTF is Russia's problem?

2020-08-12 2:19:13 PM
Wait, subby.  So this means Russia has been behind the Coronavirus this whole time?

Or they've been working on a general coronavirus vaccine for a long time like a lot of countries?

Or did Putin make this virus HIMSELF with his Lex Luthor-like mastery of everything?

/or wait, is that more Brainiac

Killing or putting a large percentage of the smart people over a few generations kinda reduces the brain trust of a country.

COVIDs have been around in one form or another for a very long time.  They generally don't make the leap from animal to human transmission very often, and when they do, the infection and transmission rates are very low.

My wife had a previous COVID variant about 5 years ago that a patient brought back from overseas travels.  She was on heavy antiviral drugs for several weeks, and that finally did the trick. The CDC also investigated the incident, but where that data went, who knows.

So yes, Russia most definitely (along with the US and China and most major industrialized nations) had been researching this, as the potential for what we are experiencing now was well understood as a future scenario by epidemiologists.

or it could simply be a money making opportunity. invest in firm that makes miracle drug, proclaim the drug to indeed be a miracle, cash out just as the market is realizing it's all a lie.
