Can Trump gift the election to Biden any better? There are hours of tape of the GOP glitterati railing against Social Security and Medicare. "The Republicans are going to take Grandma's Social Security and medical insurance" is a simple, effective message that gets through to even Trump's base.

Some teachers don't pay into social security...that means, if you are a teacher and think, well, this does NOT affect me....it does! YOU DO NOT GET A TAX CUT! You are farking over the citizenry that you teach by voting for Trump.

DO NOT DEFUND SOCIAL SECURITY!

Isn't the tax still due if they don't take it out of your check?

oldernell: Isn't the tax still due if they don't take it out of your check?

I am under the impression it's delayed, so come April everyone will owe it UNLESS Congress backs Trump on this.

/So, it's a bomb to fark with Biden
//As if anyone will remember that far back in 2022/2024
///But they have to forget who put the bomb there to begin with.

fragMasterFlash: Don't whiz on the electric fence.

Trump just unzipped his mushroom and took a splatter whiz on the electrified "third rail".  Unfortunately for him those things run from about 1-1.5Kvolts

2020-08-12 2:45:56 PM
It's just so stupid.  Unless Congress makes it an actual cut, it is just a delay in the payment of taxes.  Almost as if the purpose of it is to get people to spend a little money now, and in nine months millions will have to get loans from banks or payday loan leeches.

I wouldn't worry.

Yes.

That'll be on April 15, well after the election. That's the idea behind the strategy.

One of the things I love to hate about Trump is his unerring ability to make the absolute worst choice in any given situation.

Trump has said he would "forgive" it if re-elected.

Larry Kudlow says the payroll tax holiday is "a huge economic growth and jobs incentive".

Pence says mmghffmnmdhdmdfff because his head is up Trump's ass all the time and he is even dumber than Trump.

You have to have a job to spend "payroll tax" money, and millions don't have a job, so it doesn't help them. And I'm sure as fark not gonna go out and spend more because they're taking slightly less $ out of my check than usual. That's stupid. I assume my employer (I hope they're somewhat smart) is ignoring all of this bullshiat and continuing as normal, despite any stupid President Useless Asshole is shiatting out.

Melvin Lovecraft: One of the things I love to hate about Trump is his unerring ability to make the absolute worst choice in any given situation.

He and Mnuchin are trying to sell the idea of a capital gains tax now because rich people don't have enough money.

Dumbest idea ever

"We are looking very seriously at a capital-gains tax cut, and also an income tax cut for middle-income families," Trump said at Monday's news conference, claiming that a reduced taxation of capital gains would "create a lot more jobs."

"We are looking at expanding the cuts that we have already done, but specifically for middle -income families, and you will be hearing about that in the upcoming few weeks," the president added.

2020-08-12 2:53:32 PM
His cult will cheer the tax cuts, and rage at the Dems for losing money for Social Security and Medicare.

2020-08-12 2:53:46 PM
If I didn't think he was narcissistic enough that he desperately wants to remain President just for the status of it, I'd say that he doesn't actually want to win.

That or he banks on derpers being derpy enough to not care about him farking them over, which could really go either way.

That's not really a thing. A urine 'stream' is actually a series of droplets.  Not connected enough to convey electricity.

Of course the flailing idiots will freak out when they don't get a tax return for 2020 and owe money.  Of course it'll be MUH TAXIS WENT UP UNDER BIDUN!1!1!!!

"We're looking at cutting everything so we can end social security, medicare and all non-military programs."

And the right wing rubes who rely on said programs will be laughing their asses off and pointing at the people around them who are being hurt by it while pretending it doesn't affect them.

Trump's payroll tax scam.

2020-08-12 2:57:42 PM
Well there is a reason he never mentions its a social security cut. It's a "payroll tax cut" because he is preying on people being too dumb to know it is the same thing.

Hes not grabbing the rail, he's testing the cages.

2020-08-12 2:58:16 PM
This is nothing less than a scorched earth retreat.  Trump knows he's going to lose and that it will then be President Biden who gets stuck with having to make up the funding shortfall come April 2021.

2020-08-12 2:59:58 PM
Pyrrhic. What he's doing is absolutely Pyrrhic.

And worth noting, Trump does not have the authority to change tax law, even if this country is stupid enough to re-elect him.

Also worth noting, Larry Kudlow is a farking idiot who is unqualified to comment on the subject.

Also, also worth noting, your description of Pence is pretty close, but Pence demonstrates he's not quite as dumb as Trump by remaining silent most of the time.

Democrats should be running ads 24/7 in Florida reminding them Trump is going after their SS if elected from now till election day.  Get it to really sink in.

... which is why he doesn't have the statutory authority to do this for SS and Medicaid.

For income tax, the statute says the Treasury Department will set withholding tables, so it's clear that the withholding rate is whatever the IRS (acting on the order of the boss) says it is. If they say it's zero, it's zero. But of course the tax will be due, after the election.

Smart employers will continue to withhold and either remit it to the Treasury or set it aside for future remittance (pending Congressional action that would allow them to do otherwise). Moderately smart employers may stop withholding, but notify their employees that this is at best an interest-free loan. Dumb employers will let their employees think Trump just made them richer.

Not news: the Trump campaign depends on people being dumb.

None of the members of Mar a Lago rely on their Social Security checks.
Social Security is capped at 137,000$ per year, so the 1% is minimally affected, while the .1% is insignificantly affected.

Eliminating Social Security payroll tax would save business owners 6.2% of what they pay employees, who match it.

Our retirement is dependent on the ability of pathological greedheads to resist the opportunity to keep an extra 1/16th of their payroll for themselves.

On a side note, anyone got any good catfood recipes?

Had that exact conversation with the Mrs. last night.

Anyone who thinks this will seal Drumpf's fate, don't be so sure. My in-laws, both retired on Social Security and Medicare, remain absolute locks to vote for him in November. Never underestimate the power of misinformation combined with the urge to stiggit.

Pretty much everything trump does these days is wizzing on the ground spike while trying to steal the copper wiring, without checking the other end, of course.
I can't imagine what his end game plan is, but if it is anything near what it is smelling like, it will end in gunfire.
Meanwhile...
