trump doesn't realize women have gone into the workforce

At the 2016 RNC Chris Matthews was interviewing Manafort about why women would vote for Dumpy. It was right after the Access Hollywood tape had come out. Manafort said they should vote for Dumpy because then their husbands would make a lot more money. Tweety asked Manafort if he knew what century it was.

imapirate: Sid Vicious' Corpse: And I decided that it really doesn't matter to me what color or religion my neighbors are, so long as they keep their lawn mowed

HA, so true. There's this huge house a couple doors down from me (white pee-po) and they cut their grass maybe once a month. They also party constantly and have loud music booming and I live like 200 yards from them, so if I can hear it from inside the house, I dunno, maybe they're on PCP. The black family next door and the Asian immigrants behind me are much better neighbors. The Asian family weeds their yard by hand, which is weird, but hey, it's not attracting snakes like the other one.

The yard isn't attracting snakes.  It's attracting rats, which carry disease.  The snakes move to where the food is.

Love the snakes.  They're doing god's work.

Both of them are the worst.

If you're in metro Atlanta, you have all sorts of suburbs that are predominately one race, and it isn't just white/black, you've got the Korean neighborhoods, Latino neighbhorhoods, etc.

The burbs haven't been lily white in eons in ATL, if anything the white population in ATL proper has increased.

SurfaceTension: How big is the Venn diagram intersection of "can afford to live in the suburbs" and "single income family?" Can't be all that big, can it?

Having been the above median breadwinner for a single income household in suburbia, I can honestly say we were the exception, not the rule.

By far.

Now rural. Still the exception. I look at my wages, income, and benefits. I then look at my father's when he was my age. He was also above median. But the value of his income in the economy he was earning it in, was more than the value of mine in the economy I am earning in.

But hey, Im Gen-X. The boomers told us our whole lives we'll be worse off; that we should cope, get over it, we have to work harder than they did. Why? Because they were taking more than contributing back, not openly admitting it to us, caring about it, or just throwing up a big 'I got mine, fark you. Oh, and as you start contributing to the economy, give us more while we party, toke up, and say not for you.'

So, guess what? We did what they told us to do. Bitter is what it turned many of us into.

/not including my father in that. Former Nixonian turned 'fark the republicans' has actually apologized to me about his generation a few time since about the time I started high school. I live in NJ. Over 40 years ago there was a series of cases called Mt. Laurel which basically says all towns are required to build affordable housing. If you don't have a car, you're pretty much stranded in the ones my town built over the last decade as they are far from shopping or mass transit.

Yes and the next generations will suffer even more, because of your selfishness Do you think you're special? Well,,obviously you do. Your parents took everything they could get because fark, the "American Dream" and you're taking all you can get, because, hey--the American Dream, and you deserve it.

Younger generations up their consumption and their disposable income. It's how our corporate overlords wanted it, and youre more than happy to comply. Nobody ever questions it, and neither do you. It's mean to make all of us into greedy, self-centered elites who can't see beyond our own wants.

And there you are, whining about how little you have, and how little you can get, (because that's what it's all about, right?) in the most developed, spoiled, wasteful, oblivious culture of all time--but YOUR generation doesn't have enough. Cry me a farking river. I've done without my entire life because I wanted to leave enough for the future--not so any of you assholes.

Your lifestyles are leaps and bounds more consumptive and stupid than my generation every thought of being. It's bred into you--you don't know any other way to function except to ask for more, like the petty little culture that bred you.

Shut up. We're all going down, and it's not because of people like me. I've done everything I could do, and nobody cares. You know I bet you went to college. Every heard of climate change? If you think Gen X and younger are getting more than the Baby Boomers did, you are not paying attention.

And most of the anger and outrage of younger people is not that they personally are getting less than the post-war generation, it's that that generation had deliberately rigged the system to screw over everyone behind them, actively blocked all attempts to improve equality, pulled up the ladder, and refuse to cede any power.

greentea1985: inglixthemad: A_Listless_Wanderer: The "suburban housewife" is nearly extinct. Every adult woman I know has a job.
The fact that the Trump Campaign is targeting housewives is just another example of how out of touch conservatism is with America.

No reason for an adult woman to sit on her arse at home, at least after the last kid leaves for kindergarten. Doubly so if the woman is educated, which is likely since women passed men in receiving 4 year degrees in the early 1980's.

Trust me, I know. I'm currently a housewife because both kids are <5. I have been freelance writing to keep my resume from having a large hole, but that is more for intellectual stimulation and so I feel like I'm not "just a housewife". Once kid #2 hits first grade, I hope to switch to full-time work. I am waiting until 1st grade because kindergarten here is 1/2 day. There is an option for all-day, but the wait list is  long.

I paid for my wife to get her Master's Degree in the time it took for the kids to hit kindergarten. Granted we had all day kindergarten. Fixed that resume problem right quick.

My wife?  I make enough that her earning potential wouldn't really move the needle for us, especially given that the marginal tax rate on her income would be extremely high (33% Fed + 6.25% FICA + 10% CA ~= 50%) so it doesn't seem particularly worth it.  Right now she volunteers at a bloodbank a few times per week and is involved in local politics so that's been keeping her busy.  If she wanted to go back to work that would be fine too but it's not like we need the money.

Back when I wasn't making bank you bet your ass she was working, though.

Civchic: (one is Jamaican),

Guess you haven't been on Facebook yet today. Apparently Jamaican people are no longer considered Black.

inglixthemad: greentea1985: inglixthemad: A_Listless_Wanderer: The "suburban housewife" is nearly extinct.

/yes, we were very broke for about a decade

Yeah, I already have a Ph.D. so I am not in the mood for more schooling. I like writing. Once the kids are in school, I want to do it full-time, unless I can get a remote position in the meantime.
