I'm looking forward to the howls of surprised outrage when, after the election is over and the main issue among surviving Republicans will be crafting a narrative in which they were actually an active part of a very robust resistance to Trump's takeover of the GOP, this organization begins airing attacks ads against people like Chuck Schumer, AOC and Nancy Pelosi that sound very much like the sort of attack ads we've always seen being thrown at them from the Right. Only, you know, better and more responsive because they'll have gotten all this practice beforehand. "We thought we were on the same side," will come the anguished cries. "What are you doing? You were supposed to be good guys like us!" Cue laughter, and fade to black.

For all the faults of the people in the Lincoln project, not only do I appreciate them for going after Trump, their scorched earth approach now also includes going after the complicit senators. And now, this article indicates they are not only expanding to the house but also possibly planning for next midterms. If they are planning on going back to the GOP someday, they've put that they off into the distance. These are people who have basically made up their minds that they are gonna get payback for being shoved out of their own party by the Trumpers. Not just out of some ideological crap but they lost the access they needed to get jobs in the GOP or as lobbyists. They no longer saw a point to not burning their bridges and figured they should try to get a side grift going by fundraising for this new project and getting some payback on the ones who wronged them. Revenge and money are good motivators.

Uh oh, another TLP thread, which means we'll have to be reminded yet again that they're Republicans (we know, sweetie) and have to endure the whining about that time some people choose to eat breakfast.

Did you guys know the Lincoln Project is actually a bunch or out of work Republican lobbyists? It might not be immediately obvious but their name might give it away because Abraham Lincoln, known as Honest Abe to his closest friends, was actually a Republican who started the Civil War.

There is a guy running for a GOP congress critter seat here in Florida.  He is a vulture capitalist who got funding for businesses then made off with the loot, ran the businesses in the ground.  Made millions off of domain squatting back in the day.

He was the guy that funded Grooveshark(remember them?).

He looked the other way when I informed that our chat room software that could be encrypted was illegal to sell to the Middle East (this was just post 9/11) and the response I got "If they put in an American Express do not worry about it."

I'd really like media to stop just printing GOP attacks verbatim, and start pointing out that, like Trump, they make no attempt to answer the criticism, they simply yell insults at the critic

While all of that is true, and I still harbor suspicions about their motives, casting this wide of a net against Republican incumbents makes it a lot harder for them to reconcile with the party remnants after this election.

As long as trump is in office, The Lincoln Project is an ally.

As soon as trump is out of office, they can FOAD with the rest of the GOP.

Republicans working to reelect Trump and maintain the majority in the Senate are hitting back, alleging that the former GOP operatives are "grifters" who have taken up electing Democrats because they lost their cushy establishment jobs when Trump was elected.

They're accusing The Lincoln Project of being a "scam" PAC that funnels money directly to firms with close ties to the founders.

All GOP operatives are GRIFTERS. Full stop!

Every accusation is an admission

"The Lincoln Project is comprised of grifters who are nothing more than agents of the Democrat Party," said Republican National Committee spokesman Steve Guest. "Above all else, these political opportunists are solely concerned with making a quick buck for themselves.""

Trumpsuckers accusing others of being grifters.  That's rich.

And I know TLP will go back to being fiscal conservatives douchecanoes after the election (if Biden wins), but I don't care.  It's not my money they're using to air anti-Trump ads and I'm not going to feel betrayed.  We partnered with Stalin to get rid of Hitler and then we had the Cold War.  Hitler's still dead and hopefully Trump will be sent packing.

I am pretty sure they expect a new generation of "clean" conservatives will replace the current establishment of obviously corrupt Republicans.  Any liberal should be cautiously grateful for whatever help they are providing regardless of the motive, and at the same time not expect to be "friends" later.

In other words the true motive is really unknowable at this point but it doesn't really matter.

The Lincoln Project loves President Donald Trump though, and they'll vote for him in 2020 just like they did in 2016 according to the hypocritical echo chamber. This is just so weird.

The US didn't do anything about Stalin after WWII and Stalin continued to commit genocide. I don't think this analogy works how you intended.

This right here. I don't think anyone with two brain cells to rub together has any illusions about TLP's designs after this election, but if they're really making Trump "outraged," I welcome that for now.

That's good enough for me right now.

That might be what they're thinking but I don't think it'll go the way they hope. Everyone thought the tea party movement would basically be the low point for the GOP and they'd turn it around after they got beaten in 2012. Instead they got worse.  Things can still get worse from here, I don't think we should take that for granted.

I honestly don't think their opposition to trump has anything to do with covid.  If trump didn't do the trade war with china and if trump had have gone through with bombing iran they would be pretending like the hundreds of thousands of deaths were inevitable like every other republican

When the Mordor-orcs under Grishnákh fought Saruman's Uruk-hai, I doubt Merry and Pippin considered them friends, but were grateful that the conflict helped to free them.

And if any orcs from Moria or Mt. Gundabad showed up later and claimed they'd had nothing to do with the evil perpetrated by Isengard or Mordor, I doubt they'd welcome them as allies.
