Mail in voting with no voter ID will surely fix this!

/ a quick, accurate and non-legally challenge-able outcome will definitely be assured.
// because NOBODY ever gets mail for a person who no longer resides at the address on the envelope.

Dafuq are you on about? This isn't new.

33 states have had some provision for voting by mail, and 5 have moved almost exclusively to it.

One quarter of the US voted by mail in 2016.

Not only is this not an unprecedented scenario it happened as recently as You mean like when Gore won Florida  (If a full statewide count had taken place rather than a Supreme Court rush job) but gave up the presidency with a premature surrender.  These elections should be decided by the voters, not some local official who wants the results to reflect their vote or our need for instant gratification, which in this case results in no gratification whatsoever.

Well, the decent thing to do is write "Not at this address" on the piece of mail, stick it in an envelope and send it to your cousin in Skagway who drops it in the mailbox when he goes to Saskatoon for hookers and donuts. Then, the U S Post Office gets the letter back and eventually D2S thinks Canada is trying to mess with our elections.  And we never beat Canada in a fair fight.  Avro flying disks with lasers.  You want Avro flying disks with laser patrolling your street?  That is how you get Avro flying disks with lasers patrolling your street and seizing your maple syrup, eh?

Depends on how the state did it. Indiana simply expanded the absentee process to everyone but you had to explicitly request the ballot and record yourself as voting absentee, so you couldn't walk in on election day.

If you are a state that send mail-in ballots out to everyone proactively, I don't know how they handle it.

I will be extremely drunk, as is my Presidential election tradition. I will spend the evening watching movies and ignoring the outside world until I pass out.

At some time on Wednesday I will wake up and learn whether or not the election results are decided. If they are not, I will return to ignoring the outside world, drink more, and possibly play video games with the intention of emerging later when a winner is decided.

My problem with mail in ballots is my signature on file from 30ish years ago looks nothing like my current signature. (The old one was deliberate and defined, the current just a scrawl).

So my mail in ballot would likely be rejected. Have to figure out how to update that.

"The all mail-in system sends a ballot to the last known address of a registered voter. Unfortunately, this information is highly unreliable since people move and forget to re-register at their new address. This will cause tens of thousands of ballots to be sent to the wrong addresses.

Who knows if the incorrect mailings will be thrown in the trash, returned as undeliverable or if the current residents will just fill out the ballots that they received in their mail boxes? This is the worst way to run an election if you care about the voter integrity and voter's rights being protected.

Current absentee laws have an established process for getting ballots to the voters where they actually live. This process requires the voter requesting a ballot be sent to their home, if for some reason they are unable or just don't want to vote in person. This process also allows a voter to update or change their registration that very same day."

It depends on what you mean by "vote". It's illegal everywhere to present yourself as another person to vote.

It's not necessarily illegal to deliver someone else's completed ballot, as long as it's not tampered with. (i.e. one person in a rental delivers their roommate's ballots, wife delivers husband's ballot, etc). The legality of the latter depends on the state.

cowsaregoodeating: Eh, Texas, Florida, and Pennsylvania are 3 of the 6 states in the United States that have electronic voting with no verifiable paper trail.

That's inaccurate. At least, in parts of Texas.

We have new voting machines that are awesome. Electronic, with a printed paper receipt that you can check and then deposit in a secured container.

I'd prefer to vote by mail, or, even better, online. But until then, I'll deal with what we've got.

The fact that there are "battleground states" just shows how American "democracy" has failed, and that the EC in no way serves its intended purpose.

That cannot be done with any vote-by-mail process.

The WH's party ALWAYS loses in the midterms.

// unless a Republican President ignored intelligence warnings the year before, and a bunch of people died as a result (and civil liberties were curtailed, mostly by The Party of Small Government, but that's a tangent)
// then, apparently, we need to support the incumbent because "he kept us safe"

So, in other words, the actual identity of the person who fills out and mails in the ballot is not certified in any way.
That's what I was saying.
