wouldn't work on me because I am not stupid and all of my grandparents are dead.

I keep getting voice mail from the 'IRS' in a heavy Nigerian accent threatening that the police will come to arrest me unless I send prepaid card numbers. I never answer unknown numbers.

My grandparents are dead, as are my wife's grandparents.  But I found out today my business isn't registered with Amazon Alexa.

Oh you do? Send me money and I may come to relieve you of her.

Get those same calls, but it's always a heavy Indian accent.

I use gift cards all the time and I like saving them after they've been used for just such an occasion. Nobody's called me for the numbers yet.

I have a grandmother still alive. They'd only want to get rid of her because she won't stop feeding you and making you coffee until you burst.

I keep getting things like this telling me my Prime account is going to be canceled unless I give them a different credit card number.

The tell (well, other than the whacked out email address and being from "Amązση") is that they always get the renewal date wrong.

I've been getting calls from social security saying fraudulent use of my SSN was discovered and I needed to call a number or be arrested. I'm like "If they know my SSN is being used fraudulently, why the hell would *I* be arrested?". I'm tempted to call these numbers sometimes, just for the fun conversation, but I fear it would put me on an even worse call list.

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my grandma go now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you.

I came here for that, and I leave satisfied.  I hope someone says that to them.

I have a hunch that a similar scam left me a voicemail last month.  Lots of static, and some old woman said that she was my Grandma.

Nice try, jerks.  I know what her voice sounds like...she has a foreign accent.  AND the area code you used was one in a different state.

I called one for fun.  I asked the guy if his mother knew what he did for a living.  Would she be ashamed?  At that point I started laughing so much that the guy got seriously pissed and started screaming profanities at me.  According to my sister, my niece shamed a scammer so much that he started to cry.  I don't know if that was true or if she was just exaggerating.

Oh man! Why can't I ever get these fun scam calls? I just get the IRS is going to arrest me bullshiat and someone (whom I keep blocking) calling every three months trying to get me to buy an extended warranty on my car that I don't have anymore. I would LOVE to have this one. Especially if it is a live scammer!

"My Grandma?! OHMYGODOHMYGOD! Did you have to like, pry off the plate and take the whole urn, or is it the other one and you had to dig?"

Ah, that takes care of that then. If the scammer hit a peco, they're all going to swarm him and kill him.

I got one scammer pissed off by telling him the only way he'd get money off me is if he sent his sister over with an order of butter chicken, and she gave me a beej, and even then she'd only get more than twenty if the beej was decent. And not too damn much turmeric in the chicken.

Also, this kind of reminds me when our daughter was a newborn. "Ohhh, she's SO cute! I think we'll keep her."
Me, perfectly deadpan: "It's a deal, bring her back when she graduates college."
Them: "I think he means it, honey." *Hands baby back*

I get these calls ALL the time.
They're not targeting Actual Canadians but recent Immigrants who don't fully understand the laws and are generally scared of the Government for being deported.
Also Senior Citizens who are just to damn old to know better.

My friend is a CBSA Officer and she got a call from the India Branch of the CBSA notifying her that if she didn't pay up she'll be arrested the moment she tried to leave or enter Canada.

You can ALWAYS tell its an India Scam and I usually just play along with them.
Last time I said "Coronavirus must of been cured if the India Scam Offices have reopened" to which she replied "FARK OFF"!!!! and hung up the phone.

It has been a historical practice to use the name of the first offender to be the mark of that particular bad behavior.  Ever noticed no one has been using Benedict as a name for their sons in America.  To decide the name, it takes a consensus, and it has passed sometime last year.  Too late to do anything about it now.

Go on...

/as of a couple of months ago I no longer have grandparents
//my extended family lost their last true patriarch
///none of the other elders seems interested

This is an interesting twist to scams.  For years, it has been the elderly were the main targets.  They called my MIL, and claiming to be my older son, and needed bail money.  Somehow, they got ahold of military personnel files, and targeted grandmothers of servicemen.  Likely other servicemen pulling it.  Anyway, targeting young people is different.  I'm kind of curious how successful this will be.  If they called me, I'll likely go off about how pathetic and stupid they are.

2020-08-11 7:25:25 AM
It occurs to me that there's an ready test of whether they really do have my grandmother.  Ask to speak to her and say "Obama" then hang up.  If they call back begging me to take her and oh my God what's wrong with her - why does she have such a problem with him?  Well, then I laugh because at least I'm not the one listening to it.

The real kidnappers should be up in arms over this.  This is going to make a real kidnapping seem like a joke, and no one will ever pay them.

I kept one of these "IRS is going to arrest you"  people on the phone for a half hour once.  Just ribbing her, asking inane questions, etc.  She actually hung up on me, it was a proud moment.

And the calls stopped for a while after that.

Same. But Grandma was also a major biatch when alive, so I would have leaned towards keeping her until she drove them crazy nagging.
