Well doing it at the White House is illegal so that's the route he's going to take.

2020-08-10 4:43:23 PM
First he has to go to Google maps to look up the Gettysburg address.

2020-08-10 4:59:27 PM
If he's going to the Gettysburg battlefield, hopefully there will be some UXO.

2020-08-10 5:23:49 PM
Gettysburg will be perfect. He can talk about how there were fine people on both sides.

2020-08-10 5:37:47 PM
If he wants to imitate Lincoln, try Ford's Theater.

2020-08-10 5:48:34 PM
Can he do it doing Pickett's Charge?

Mugato: Well doing it at the White House is illegal so that's the route he's going to take.

I hope so, because I don't want him in my state.

2020-08-10 6:21:30 PM
Wouldn't he want to do it on a battlefield where his side actually won?

2020-08-10 6:21:30 PM
That's a weird battlefield to pick, his side lost that one.

2020-08-10 6:23:34 PM
How about at the Rivers of Blood Monument on the Potomac?

2020-08-10 6:23:46 PM
Gettysburg? Donny knows that THAT is outside, right? Also, one wonders how the Red Hats will take the insult done to Da Confederacy....

2020-08-10 6:27:41 PM
He should turn down the nomination, total power move. Show the GOP he doesn't need them.

Guys.....The Hitler Rule applies to Donald Trump. There will be no shootings, stabbings, electrocutions, progenitor murdering, pulling out, thermonuclear events or trying to teach him empathy.

I'm all in with my collection of Beanie Babies and say he'll do it in Charlotte. I wish my washer had the same agitator.

If he wants to hold it on a great battlefield, he should select his golf course in Sterling, VA, where eleventy bajillion brave beautiful soldiers died crossing the river.

I hope his speech will be as short as Lincoln's.

"... Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth," is a great swan song for the Trump debacle.

Would Trump doing it from his personal apartment in the wh be illegal?  I know he wants the grand spectacle of the oval or lawns but the apartment isnt as entrenched in the american psyche.

I would be OK with sending him to the actual Battle of Gettysburg. I'm sure he'll do well.

No, I don't think for an instant that he knows who Geddy Lee is.

Quote is so mangled I had to look it up. "The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here"

Damn good movie, such a shame that Gods and Generals was so bad that it killed off the third one. Not that people think Jeff Daniels isn't a quality actor but one of these years he'll be recognized the way he deserves to be and I'll be happy to see it, dude has range and kills whatever role he takes.

2020-08-10 6:43:37 PM
Rather transparent, isn't it? Gettysburg, the battle that was the turning point for the Union, after all the controversy over his cheerleading for the Confederacy. Then subtlety was never one of his virtues. That is if he had any virtues, subtlety wouldn't be one of them.

In that case soldiers could equal blades of grass as I'm sure he murders mass amounts of them every time he plays.

Biden should accept it at the WH, too.
It's only fair.

POTUS and VPOTUS are specifically and explicitly excluded from the Hatch Act.  He can do it from anywhere on the White House grounds.

I see what you did there.

I don't give a fig where he gives his speech. Compared to the shiate Bonespurs has already pulled, this is small potatoes. At any rate, I won't be watching.

My guess is at the base of the Lee statue.

Surely his golf course with the plaque to the Civil War battle-that-never-happened would be much more appropriate?

Martin Sheen was a crappy Robert E. Lee.  But then again Robert E. Lee was a crappy Robert E. Lee.  Only people emotionally invested in the Lost Cause can see him as anything else.

And that is where Gods and Generals failed.  It was too much hero worship of humans.  Plus hiring a guy ten years later to play the same character who was supposed to be younger and not war-weary.  I mean seriously.  They couldn't have done a better makeup job to make 1862 just left the college Chamberlain look younger than 1863 slept on a battlefield while using his own dead soldiers as shields Chamberlain?

Can he do it doing Pickett's Charge?

Cadet Bone Spurs wouldn't make it out of the woods.  He couldn't do the attack uphill to the Emmettsburg Road, unless he had a golf cart.  As for crossing the picket fence and going the rest of the way uphill to Union lines -- Pence would be the new president due to Trump's heart attack.

Trump believes that when he does this to our national symbols it rubs off on him, that it elevates him.

Nothing could be further than the truth.  Whether it's the Lincoln Memorial or Gettysburg, all it does is diminish his stature even more while defiling our shared symbols.
