And I bet you that the SEC will have some provision in their agreement that if any member of a non-SEC football team that chooses to play gets COVID from their visit, they're not responsible.

ACC and Big 12 will happen tomorrow.

The SEC will biatch and moan and crow superiority for a month until their lawyers pull the plug.

It's over.

Big 12 would've happened today, were it not for the southern assholes.

As long as they don't cancel the games at 9AM Pacific time so east coast viewers can't not watch it.

And next will be the ACC and Dabo will still find a way to claim that nobody gives Clemson any respect.

It's so gratifying to see the official sport of Trump voters being upended by Trump and his voters, even if they'll never admit/acknowledge their own failures

I mean, I like college football too (as much as any Pitt fan can at least), but I'll live without it.

Publicly they'll deny that Trump had anything to do with it.

Privately, they're stewing.  Remember what happened to the Governor of Texas when the SMU scandal broke out?  That's Trump future in the south, whether he or his supporters want to believe it or not.

Democrats (of the LBJ type) would've put some feelers out to the football fans about how Trump ruined college football by being reckless about COVID.

Side note on that - McCrory didn't lose his re-election bid in NC because of NCians being concerned over transgender rights so much as every business pulled out of NC right after the bill was passed - more specifically, the ACC/NCAA pulling their events out of the state. Bottom line: you don't ever fark with college basketball in NC and keep a job.

Just because I'm a cynical asshole, I'd start putting up ads in every SEC/Big XII aligned state blaming Trump for it.  Abbott might bite at it but I'd wonder how many Republican governors in said states are going to defend Trump knowing that there's a lot of money in those circles and farking with them could cost them their seat.

It's not even being cynical. This 100% should be an albatross around Trump and the GOP's necks and be blasted on ads from now until Nov. People may not gaf about health care or civil rights, but they sure as shiat gaf about football

SEC decided on a conference-only schedule last month.

So.. if the other conferences cancel, can the SEC play one week, crown the team with the highest score the "national champion" and close down?

Kind of what I was wondering if you are the last team to cancel your season are you automatically the national champion

No. If Alabama loses the one and only game they play, they declare themselves national champions and use having a tough schedule as justification for the natty

They attached themselves to the ACC. They weren't. going to beat Clemson anyway.

Its not like winning a conference has stopped them from winning a title in the past

I remember months ago Nick Farkin Saban was doing PSA's across Alabama telling people if you don't wear a mask there will be no 'Bama football in the fall. He was doing interviews all over the state begging people to mask up.

Trevor honey, you'll come to realize this eventually, but it ain't about you.

It's not even about the players not getting the covid. It's about all the other poor saps that will get covid if we have hundreds of farking college football games this fall.

Are you trying to say that star athletes may be a little narcissistic?

The seeds for this were sown in the spring. The constant push to "get back to normal" is prolonging all of the closures and cancellations. Once the slow people start to figure this out, they'll ostensibly wonder why we didn't try to persuade them harder.

Indeed it did occur to me as I read several of his comments that he hadn't given a hell of a lot of thought to all of the non-football playing parts of the people affected by college football gatherings. It takes hundreds of people at a minimum to put on a college football game even with no fans.  We all know the big money boosters would have found a way to get there. And that the real lives saved here will be because of fewer people gathered in living rooms and bars...

He's almost getting it though. Now he just has to figure out football is not a magic force field to keep COVID at bay.

So the SEC can play the SEC for the National Championship yet again proving that the SEC is the best conference in SEC football.

Seems legit.

I'm actually kind of surprised they went ahead with cancelling the season.  The NCAA has been so adamant using the "student athlete" argument as a crutch to harvest as much money out of free labor, I was expecting them to damn the brakes and push forward to put the players at risk for more money.  I'm sure there was some economic incentive to this, but it's actually a surprise.

This assumes they'll ever figure it out. Big assumption, that

Ditto.  Of course, it's no surprise the SEC wants to go full speed ahead.  "Sorry you've got myocarditis, son, but folks wanna watch 'Bama play."  The nail in the coffin needs to be the NFL saying, "You know, we'd like to go to a bubble and play games on Saturday to make it work."
