These antiviral drugs try to lodge into nooks and crannies of the giant RdRp molecule, like clogs inside its gears, bringing the machine to a halt.

Like many other viruses, the coronavirus copies its genetic material with the help of an enzyme as complex as what its name may suggest: the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, or RdRp

With 29,000 base pairs, this thing isn't bringing along alot of its own machinery and I'm guessing what it is using might be useful for just sort of living.

It seems like the most nasty viruses seem to have around 30k basepairs.
