The 35-year-old man told police he jumped from a plane with four other friends who reportedly landed safely in the park.

Police said it is unknown where the man originally jumped from.

It's a mystery.

No word on how much alcohol was involved with this decision.

The USPA is going to throw a fit.

There's a scene in Deadpool 2 that should be compulsory watching for anybody who wants to skydive into a city of any density.

Gotta be a BASE jumper.  Nobody jumps from a plane at 2 in the morning.  Not even the 82nd Airborne.

That's what I'm thinking. Admitting to being a BASE jumper would probably mean admitting to trespassing in the building where they jumped.

My bet is from somewhere higher than where he ended up.

Add to that, I'll bet most if not all major cities have some sort of regulation about the act of jumping (or throwing something) off of buildings specifically to discourage BASE jumping.  So, that'd be another crime or misdemeanor as well.

Yeah I'd bet money on that being the real story if there are any tall building nearby. I'm skeptical that you'd find a pilot who would take you above a city to jump in the middle of the night, that sounds waaaaay more illegal and difficult than trespassing but I am not a plane lawyer so ??

I wonder if the guy will be able to avoid incriminating himself if he sticks to his story or if they would be able to force him to testify who the pilot was in which case the gig might be up.

Plus surely you could check like flight aware and see if anything was in the area at the appropriate time.

It seemed like a bizarre thing to claim that Paras wouldn't jump in the night given that it's y'know famously the exact thing they usually seem to do. Did this guy never watch any ww2 films? Oh well...

Pretty good.  He will take the winds into better account next time, or the bad light or whatever factor led to this mishap.  You take risks every time you drive to the mall for shiat you don't need or food that will stick to your heart, why isn't this man allowed to live his life as an adventure.  There are many things worse than risk, a boring and coddled existence being one of them.

Because his choice of adventure puts other people (and their property) at risk.

So does your trip to the mall and Bennigans. Even moreso I would argue.  In fact, imma have to insist on a cite for injuries and fatalities involved with BASE jumpers hurting other unknowing people.

During my brief tenure as a Georgia Tech student, the Golden Knights did a jump into the area behind the Student Center (this was coming up on 40 years ago, so it's different than it looks now). The Tech parachute club decided they could do the same.
The first guy coming down was yelling and kept cutting back and forth showing off. He more or less kicked a guy in the head* making his final turn back into the LZ.

*I don't know if he actually made contact. He was cutting back into the roped off LZ and some guy flipped/fell backwards over the rope as the jumper's boots and smoke ejectors went past/hit the spectator's head.

They all were drinking, even the pilot, it was her plane, he is a marine.  I dont know how they would get a plane up and down with no record.  Turn off all the electronic crap some how?  That pilot probably does it so often he could do it blind and drunk.
