It's a tax time bomb, if he wins he'll just make it permanent, if he loses, it's Biden's problem to deal with.

Old Krugman is dead wrong on both counts. Hydroxychloroquine is an effective treatment for COVID-19, and the payroll tax cuts will help working class people.

That was what I noted when I heard the announcement: "defer is dangerous."

What id worry about are the people who don't realize they'll have a delayed debt and spend the money and suddenly owe hundreds or thousands of dollars. It will total like 1/4 of a monthly check and some can't afford that.

LordJiro: Sid Vicious' Corpse: So Trump is standing on the proverbial third rail?  Good luck with that.

He (or rather, whoever tells him what strategies to use) isn't outright saying he'll kill Social Security, he's just 'cutting a tax'...which will starve Social Security, of course.

He's banking on enough of America being too stupid to realize it, and stupid enough to buy whatever hit pieces he pulls out of his ass on Biden, to make the election close enough to steal. At which point he is off even the threadbare leash he was on before, and no longer has to care about voters, or even the possibility of Republicans not being in power for the foreseeable future.

If Trump wins* in November, that's game over for the United States of America. Short of a war, the GOP will be able to permanently entrench itself, the will of the voters be damned.

If he steals it (and you KNOW that's exactly what the GOP are hard at work doing right now), America will become an oligarchy.

This is what the GOP has been learning from Putin & his friends, and most likely they've been in bed with Putin for much longer than we are aware.

Why do you think so many senators, congrescritters, GOP super PACS, and lobbying groups continue to push that the Russians are now America's bff?

July 4th, 2016 secret GOP trip to Moscow ring any bells? The shenanigans regarding Ukraine? Trump Tower meeting? And so on, and so on, and so on? Maria whatsherface paling around with senators, congressmen, the NRA etc? There are hundreds of examples.

This country is on seriously dangerous ground right now and I'm still not sure a Biden landslide will protect it.

I don't want to sound all doom and gloom, but every god damn day there is something new on the outrage meter, which means we're all watching the right hand while the left hand is f*cking us over. Trump's job is to be that right hand and no matter what anyone thinks, he's a f*cking master at it.

I'm so very scared. I'm disabled and on SSDI and my son is an adult with autism. We're in the group that trump & the GOP hope they can literally kill with their policies. They've been working on it for years and this is the year they're expecting all that hard work to come to fruition.

Trump: I'm deferring your payroll taxes, but it will take money from Social Security temporarily.

America: That's bad.

Trump: But I will sign another EO in January if I win to make the cut permanent so you won't have to pay the tax back.

America: That's good.

Trump: But that will bancrupt Social Security forever, forcing you to forage through dumpsters for food in your old age.

Two things to consider (and I hope this isn't giving false hope):

1. Trump is already backtracking a little on that front, according to Forbes article:
https://tinyurl.com/y5oup67f

2. No doubt Pelosi and the Dems are gonna challenge the sh*t out of this in a lawsuit 12 hours from now. Such decisions about the funding for Social Security/Medicare are made by Congress, not King Donnie the Mad. This is second grade Government Studies level knowledge (or at least it was when I was in second grade in the 70's).

Dude, if what was written on paper can't be manipulated by rouge actors, we wouldn't have Trump. We know what the books say. We know what we've been taught. Even a first year lawl student will tell you everything that Trump has, and continues to do is against the constitution, and against the law.

But real life is no more like "Law and Order," or "The West Wing," just like "Grey's Anatomy" isn't like a real life hospital. Trump and his entire cabinet are wiping their asses with the paper both the law, and the Constitution are written on.  And Republicans keep handing him more sheets.

It is baffling to me how much Americans really believe that our justice system was going to protect us. Maybe its because I'm African American, but I can tell you from experience that American justice is, and always has been arbitrary. The folks in charge of making and maintaining  the rules, also fill them with loopholes big enough to drive a truck through. The rich don't pay much in taxes, because they pay congress members to find ways to charge them less. They get away with ripping off ordinary Americans to the tunes of millions of dollars, yet if a black man steals some hedge clippers, he has violated the "sanctity of American justice!" and therefore must serve the rest of his life in prison.

So yeah Nancy and Chuck, challenge the president on this. Technically, according to the "law" and the "constitution," President Trump shouldn't be allowed to get away with any of his shiat. Maybe he won't, but by then, it won't farking matter anyway. Fall is almost around the corner. Americans still don't want to wear masks, and millions have no idea if they'll be able to eat, much less pay their bills.

Oh our much vaunted laws! Truth, justice and the American way? Only if you're rich, and white, darlin.

That's also why they're shorting the Census.  Trump and the Republicans will be setting up apportionment for the next decade to benefit the Republicans and hurt the Democrats.  And they'll get away with it if nothing is done, because the Republican party knows that they won't win again otherwise, due to the bulk of the nation turning against them.

They're proving beyond the shadow of a doubt that the almighty dollar and power are the only things they give a shiat about anymore, and they'll do anything to keep both.

I agree.

And they need to be strong in the PR this week explaining exactly why to the feeble minded who thing what he did last night was good for them.

Or......... and this just came to me........ and it places, as Durbin said today, a moral slant on it

Do they just sit back and watch, knowing that Trump and Mnuchin are going to fark this up soooooo, sooooooo bad and let the pot boil over? I don't think this will happen, but it would be effective as hell.

That farkin' Yertle. Throw that cocksucker, shell and all, in if that pot is gonna boil while we're at it.

suebhoney: I'm so very scared. I'm disabled and on SSDI and my son is an adult with autism. We're in the group that trump & the GOP hope they can literally kill with their policies. They've been working on it for years and this is the year they're expecting all that hard work to come to fruition.

This is second grade Government Studies level knowledge (or at least it was when I was in second grade in the 70's).

aleister_greynight: Hydroxychloroquine hurts the stupid person who takes it, but you can avoid it by not taking it.  Payroll tax cuts are going to hurt a whole lot of people who aren't getting a choice in the matter.

You might be able to increase your withholding by the same amount, to offset the bill when it comes due.

But yeah, most people probably won't do that.

151: themindiswatching: It just shows how much of a manly leader he is, what with him ordering something and his staff doing it and all.  All he has to do now is ride on bears while shirtless and he has the election in the bag.

/jk, most of America is probably vomiting right now just reading the above.

I could stand a few seconds of watching him shirtless, riding a bear.

As long as the video ended in every bear within 500 miles maiming him.

Exit, pursued by a bear.

Where is the countermove here? And what is it?

It isn't through legislation. That's clear. I've seen Presidents call the Speaker and Leader out before. But obviously Trump took this waaaay over the line and broke it.

Do, Nancy and Chuck sue, pushing that the suit is about the power that Trump is exerting that he doesn't have the right to do?

Optics are bad. But it's almost what has to happen isn't it?

Or do they have some hidden House rule tucked away that's going to be drug out for an occasion just like this?

My condolences, sorry about your mom.

That line is being run on Trump's "assets", not his - the logic is flawed in your humor.

/conservative humor is flawed, generally
