I like her, even donated.

20% chance, maybe less with rigged machines in the three largest cities.

Well we have syphilis Republicans right now.

It's Kansas; I'll take it if she wins and it helps flip the Senate.

2020-08-09 8:58:58 AM
If you want 60 seats, you need to accept some of these. It's very frustrating when you think about Lieberman and Manchin... but... it's the only way you can get votes in those places.

Good luck!!

I'm definitely voting for her.  She is closer to my personal views than any Senate candidate we've had in a while.  But I'm not sure Kansas, as a whole, is quite there yet.

Eh, go ahead and send her. The more the merrier. If she wins, we won't need her vote on the financial stuff.

There needs to be an understanding that all politics is local. At no time is anyone even remotely like AOC going to win a federal senate seat in Kansas.

Yup, trying to push Northeast progressive candidates in a place like Kansas is suicide. Pushing what would be considered a Northeast Republican as a Democrat is far more likely to win and still more progressive than the actual republican by leaps and bounds

It is so embarrassingly pathetic that it's actually new-worthy when it's revealed that a conservative running for public office doesn't want to belittle and degrade an entire group of American citizens.  Way to go!  Hey, look how wonderful I am!  I actually won't try to kill those people!  Vote for me!  And, the saddest part is that the person who openly wants to fark people over will probably win.

2020-08-09 10:36:08 AM
I look forward to her votes that will condemn the vast majority of Americans to perpetual poverty. But hey, at least she doesn't care who you have sex with!

Supporting equal rights and abortion rights aren't notable political positions to be celebrated. They're baseline standards for being a decent human being with empathy for others.

Well, I couldn't have farked that one up more than I did.  Actually, with a little effort, yeah, I probably could have.

Pro-choice, fail-mitter. Abortion is a BFD, not to be entered into lightly. Forced pregnancy is even worse, so we want to allow the choice. We also want there to be less of them so we support things like healthcare and a strong social safety net that will help people know that they will be able to care for their children if they choose to have them.
/Rant.

The rural part of our state seems determined to lower their voting power this year, according to Dr. Norman and my personal experience driving through western KS and Nebraska recently. Nebraska was much worse than KS, but you notice a big drop off in masks and distancing when you get out of the cities.

The most important vote any legislator makes is the vote for the Speaker or Majority Leader. After that, it's mostly details. Which is why in many cases, particularly when control of the chamber hangs in the balance, a Blue Dog Democrat is infinitely preferable to a relatively progressive Republican. It doesn't matter how liberal you are if only conservative legislation is allowed to come to the floor.

There's one number that matters in November more than anything else, it's the Senate balance. If there's a clear Democratic majority DINOs or not, we can do what needs to be done no matter who wins the Presidency.
A president is nice but the real thing that Biden is doing is creating a set of coattails that rival a royal wedding train. Lots of states that were safe red eight years ago are in play and Democrats are going to win a few. If we can cross that line there's a real chance of doing something.

Not if half of those New Democrats are a bunch of Joe Liebermans.

Then we get a bunch of shiatty neutered programs that don't actually accomplish much but have good intentions attached.

Yes, faster change would be great, but sometimes evolution is as necessary as revolution

Nope. I have it on good authority from Fark progressives that people only vote GOP because Dems aren't socialist enough.

Are you, perhaps, confusing "if people can't tell the difference between the Democrat running for office and a replacement-level Republican, they'll vote for the Republican" and "a replacement-level Socialist would win in Kansas if we just ran one"?

Easy mistake to make, I'm sure.

What does "replacement-level" mean?

Oh please. Go join the Greens or Socialist party then. Some of us have our eyes on some immediate and important goals, like getting the turtle the fark out of the majority.

Your purity test would lead to a 60 vote super majority for the GOP. Majority leader in the Senate, a SCOTUS full of GOP nominees, head of every Senate committee.

I don't like Joe Manchin, but he gets the Democrats one person closer to the majority. He's like Doug Jones. Do you expect Alabama to go any more liberal than Doug Jones?  He's out anyway, but I'll gladly swap him out for Bollier.

Your Seattle view of what a Democrat should be won't play well on the prairie or the rust belt or the mid-Atlantic or the South. If all Democrats required pure candidates, the GOP would reign until people dropped the purity test.

She'll just be the Gene Taylor of the Senate:  calls herself a Democrat, votes like a Republican.  So, a Democrat in the Tulsi Gabbard tradition.  Also, she's a turncoat and should never be trusted

"Being a progressive independent" still too much to handle.

Dude, it's Kansas. If she wins, she pulls the Overton Window just a bit to the left. You're not getting anyone more liberal out of Kansas. Take what you can get.

Great.

I also look forward to seeing the brigade of idiots and trolls here pretend she is everything wrong with the Democrats and if they'd only sent a Warren or AOC there they'd have awoken the silent progressive majority.

You don't seem to understand how the government works.

Unless there is a 2/3 majority in both the House and the Senate (which would require win at all but one Senate seat up for grabs), Congress needs the President to agree to anything they do. And, as both Obama and Trump have demonstrated, the President can have a significant impact even if Congress is unwilling to work with them.
