Hulk smash indeed. And Vettel didn't even make it to Q3. I really think Ferrari are sabotaging his car to make him look bad to justify firing him.

Oh well, hope the race is fun today.

Mornin' everyone. So does Bottas botch the start or do we see the Mercs race for a lap or two for the first time this year?
Will Hulk finally get his first podium?
And will a team other than Mercedes, Red Bull, or Ferrari win for the first time since - *checks notes* - March 2013...? Well, never mind that.

Holy crap, it's been since Kimi won Australia in a Lotus, almost a full year before the turbo hybrid era began.

Holy. Crap.

I mean, just make it official -- I mean, Alpha Tauri/Toro Rosso has always been a RBR sub-team

I suspect it's a combination of an uncompetitive design, a consequence of the fuel cheat being discovered, a pinch of national chauvinism (Ferrari largely insisting on Italians doing the designing instead of hiring a designer who can deliver a good car), and a ton of apathy. He's gone, so what's his motivation to beat on an uncompetitive car?

Even Hulk says that's not going to happen.  But given how... meh... the young drivers not in F1 are (de Vries is about the only obvious omission from the F1 grid) there's a solid chance he'll have a drive next year.

Turns out that when they have the proper aerodynamics and a functioning ERS the Racing Points are indeed faster than the Renault.

Riciardo has shown that he can win in a good car, so why is he in a Renault?

Was wondering if HAM would push BOT into a double DNF.

Last week, HAM ran away very quickly. The fact that BOT can't shake him says a lot about the gap in talent.

No surprise there, and it proves how far ahead of everybody else Mercedes really is when the second-fastest car on the grid is last year's Mercedes.

Crewmannumber6: Riciardo has shown that he can win in a good car, so why is he in a Renault?

Because his ego was hurt that Verstappen was gonna become the No1 driver in the team.

This. Was a bad career choice for Ricciardo. Could be a career-ender if he wasn't jumping to McLaren next year.

I'm sure ego was a part of it, but the impression I got was that Red Bull is super-controlling and they were switching to Honda engines, which to that point had been hot garbage. He took the opportunity to escape into a car with an engine he was familiar with. I'm sure Renault made promises they haven't been able to keep as well.

I bet we see a lot more on the hard compound since that's actually softer than it would have been last week
