I am just some random dude from the internet, but please accept my condolences. Your dad must have been pretty cool. He played for the Mud Hens!

Sorry for your loss, Subby. Gone but not forgotten. My dad is still with me, even though he died 12 years ago.

My condolences

/ the next month or two is going to suck but it does get better. Doesn't stop hurting but it gets better. My dads been dead about three years now and I really wish I could see him again, mostly to yell at him by the missing part is very real.

Subby here.

First, thanks for all the condolences. Believe me it means a lot from my fellow Farkers. Seems we've all been through a lot. Helps. Also Fark 2020.

Second, Mom is taking it a little better than I'd think as he died right next to her. She watched. I heard some groaning and then Mom panicking, checked pulse, shiat, eyes dilated, shiat shiat, close nose blow in mouth oh he's breathing again ... no ... no that was his last breath. I was juggling Mom freaking out, Dad dying and talking with the EMTs on the phone ( yes 911 was called very fast by me, Mom was panicking ). They got here within 5 mins, worked on him for 20, no chance, he was gone. He had some aneurysms that were inoperable which we knew about. That likely got him.

Third CSB time because fark you I want to: I was a kid of about 12 years old. Mom and Dad had just moved to Montana. For reasons completely Republican and therefore stupid I was living with my Grandparents. I begged to visit Mom and Dad for summer and got my wish. Dad took me fishing in the Big Sky country and then we camped out in the Bear Teeth Wilderness National Park. Which was awesome. Nothing like plunking a lame worm on a cheap hook into a stream and hooking a brook trout. Dad of course dealt with the fish as I am a city dweller and therefore incapable ( I make a mess ).

Well that night as we were cooking the fish he broke out his Native American peace pipe and his stash. He started puffing away. Now I had grown up with the occasional visits smelling that stuff and also remembered weed from my childhood with them. It was not an unknown. So I went over and asked if I could have a puff and he acquiesced. Well we proceeded to get stooooooned. This was terrible Mexican brown weed with more stem and seed than bud but we made do. We got so high, considering the altitude, we laughed and laughed and ate ALL of the peanuts and hot dogs. Mom was pisssssssed!

There is a photo of me the day after with my head emerging from the tent flap like a birthing scene. Truly I had changed that day.

Thanks Dad. You turned me onto weed. I can never, ever thank you enough. #RIP

/ Some of you might think that's bad. Maybe it was. But I don't. Fark you if you think that way.

Heh, come to think of it Dad took that amazing photo.

Also he played for the San Diego Padres before they were THE San Diego Padres. I was a bit too little to run around then but I DO remember the Mudhens, vaguely. Toledo is hard to forget.

One thing left off is after The Mudhens he went to Mexico! With me and Mom. That was amazing. My earliest memories are San Diego and farking Mexico, I mean adobe house dirt street open market Mexico. It was awesome.

/ Wish you were here.

Condolences.

And big ups for honoring your father with a pretty keen (and green) headline.

+1 for your dad

I'm sorry Subby...I lost my Dad in 2010. He was in the minor leagues too...1962-68 or so. Different teams than your  dad. He was born after your dad.  Glad you had him around.  Hugs.

Apparently I'm ready to make jokes about it at least.

To be fair I was making Dead Dad jokes as he was lying there. Praise Dobbs.

So sorry for your loss.  It's damn hard to deal with grief when you have had to cut people out of your life.  I know all too well what that is like.  :(

When my mom died, I was trying to go through her Facebook friends list to see who I needed to contact.  She died at the end of October, so Facebook was throwing up Halloween messages while I was fiddling around.  The one that killed me was "There's something spooky going on in the graveyard!".  I think my family thought that I was nuts, sitting in her office chair laughing my ass off.

I hope if there is any kind of afterlife that my dad and your dad are going to have fun watching the election.

My dad died over a few weeks in the hospital. One nurse was checking to see if he could hear by seeing if he'd groan in agony when she asked who the president was. A groan meant he knew.

That's a farking great nurse.

The lucky among us have good stories to tell about our Dads.

I have thousands of wonderful memories and one particular regret.

For obscure reasons I went to work in Australia, a wonderful adventure, hoped my Dad would fly out and visit when I was there but he had strangely grown adverse to travel for reasons I will not relate. I did get him to travel with me on a few adventures before that.

Nevertheless, when I returned from Australia, I stopped off to visit him in California with my daughter and my first grandson, obviously his great-grandson. On that trip we had a few nice adventures but a memorable one was to visit the Endeavour Space Shuttle exhibit in LA. We had a few pictures taken of Dad, me, my daughter, and my eldest grandson in front of the engines of the space shuttle and of an exhibit of a replica of the Rocketdyne engines that he worked on.

Yup, Dad was an authentic Rocket Scientist and contributed to the Apollo program and I was able to get pictures taken of my Dad holding my grandson in front of both the Space Shuttle and an Apollo capsule with me and my daughter. But somehow, these pictures have been lost. It makes me cry.

My condolences.  My mom passed away at home back in '06.  She had cancer and there was nothing they could do for her anymore.  My dad laid down next to her in the bed, drifted off for a moment, and when he woke up, she was gone.  That was particularly hard on me, as I was 15.

I lost my dad in 2016, I keep his and my grandpa's urn on the mantle with a Mr. Potato head in between with his hands on each urn.

I figured those guys would chuckle about it too.

Probably. There were quite a few he'd talk about when we watched games. I just can't recall any. I was five when he hung up the cleats for good since his stint in the Mexican League was less than stellar. I didn't want to move back to the USA either but i was being treated like Jesus there so I was biased.
