Still going on about this virus? What a mad world when choir practise is more risky than  swimming in the ocean.

Sharks are a very good example about how failure to practice social distancing can be fatal.

How come visiting a friend at home in a crowd is low risk? That makes no sense, there are a few others too.

I borrowed clippers from a friend and did it myself.  As long as you don't mind fairly short for a few weeks, it's not so hard and it's SUCH A RELIEF.  I ordered myself some decent Wahl clippers (lucked out and found them in stock) and I plan to just do it at home for the next year or so.

Depends on whether or not the stripper is crying.

No those are risk factors associated with the event.
i.e. visiting a friend is risky because of enclosed spaces, close contact and hard to social distance but crowds isn't an issue.

One thing that these charts make clear is that, as a nation, we have made a conscious decision over who should and should not be forced to suffer the full force of this pandemic....

That sucks; is there not sufficient contrast between darknesses?

What I noted is it didn't map the risk of working in a grocery store pickup department 40 hours a week in a space designed for 50% fewer orders and filled with young people who have to be continually reminded to pull the mask back up over their nose.

This set of charts could have been title, "This should be obvious, but here is a graphic to really drive the point."

Because there was nothing surprising in any of it.  Like, when I see that air travel in an enclosed space is high risk, that is not exactly a revelation.

2020-08-09 8:06:11 AM
My concern with this is it doesn't capture the enclosed spaces risk well. As one epidemiologist out it: " if there is poor ventilation, there is no safe distance."  So why again if the grocery store more risky than little retail stores? The grocery store had a huge volume and is ventilated vertically. The small retail has a single vent blowing the same air over everyone. Hope no one in the store is sick.

I go to a small-town beach where you can easily be 50-100 feet between people. You might have a different experience at South Beach or Waikiki.

and the chart has to be shades of red so the designer's implication is that no activity other than staring at the wall of your fallout shelter by yourself is actually safe.

HEY that wall could fall right down on top of you, and THEN where would you be, Mr. "I thought I was being so safe?"  Crying under a couple tons of toppled wall and ruing the day, that's where.

Which the article does, clearly, communicate.

Understand - even with their "risk by activity" chart, those risks are made with assumptions about not just your behavior, but the behavior of others as well.  Sure, a hike with a friend is low risk, assuming you stay at least 6 ft. apart at all times and encounter no one else, and that everyone involved is wearing a mask.

None of those assumptions are being universally followed, so they're useless as assumptions. Those charts relay relative risk, not absolute risk, and they probably shouldn't be taken at face value.

I won't. I am annoyed by the recruiters that expect people to travel by air (especially long distances) during this pandemic crisis. I get it, I am amazing at my job, but they should be looking locally or at least within driving (then hotel) distance right now.

This might very well be highly useful info for the masses, as i see it is pay walled off from them.

I'm sure the social system of that civilization is the kind you';d consider risking your own life to voluntarily protect and gladly make personal wealth and comfort sacrifice to help uphold.

Articles like this fuel the Fark fire that high risk of exposure means you're definitely going to die if you do these things.
