I find it incredibly unsurprising that technology companies would donate to an up-and-coming representative who actually seems to understand technology, more than the guy who threatens anti-trust legislation against Google because search results reflect that no one links to Gateway Pundit.

There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels ... upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!

Good, fark em'. Sick of this weak sauce argument.  You know what would happen if all the WalMarts just suddenly disappeared overnight? "Oh no! Derp! If that happened all those people would be out of jobs! That would be the worst thing 5ever!"

Yeah, and in less than 3 months, they would be replaced with a crap ton of small business mom and pop shops that easily fill the void, employ way more people, make communities more local, and generate more business and revenue and increase the standard of living in the entire area.

But no, we can't do that, because it's been proven effective, and we're Americans damn it. That means we need to do it the stupidest way possible.

More than that, it's an empty threat. Because... WHERE THE FARK ARE THEY GOING TO GO? Europe, with it's higher regulations, employee wages & benefits, and tax structure? Central/South America or Africa, where they don't have the economic infrastructure to consume in the amount that makes their business model work?

"Business will go elsewhere" is a total BS fear on multiple levels.

We want to learn about things are actually useful to us; how to change a tire, how to pay your taxes, how to raise children, how to manage relationships, how to manage our money, how can I make a difference in the world, what can I personally do to prevent climate change, world hunger, etc. etc.

That's not a teacher failure, that's a parent failure. As the parent of one teenager and one adult I can say they know how to change a tire (basic requirement of learning to drive along with jump starting a car and several other skills), fill out a tax return, balance a check book, cook several meals and more. Raise children? I hope they learned by example. How to make a difference in the world? Same thing.

and even that argument "we will take our business overseas" is even weaker now that Mexico, China, India, Brazil, Russia and South Africa are having skyrocketing rates of covid infections.

So where is your new well of exploitable labour going to come from now, captains of industry? Brazil now has cover 100,000 deaths. India is careening towards 50,000, Mexico has passed 50,000.

Maybe this whole search for cheap labour was what helped bring the world to its knees in the first place.

Prevent climate change and end world hunger requires a working class, and i am including here the managerial class that most farkers are part of, that is not completely alienated the way they are now. Those two things are inescapable side-effects of capitalism and so fighting them on an individual level is almost pointless.

I dunno, man. A lot of people shop at Walmart bc Walmart drove everyone else in their town out of business. I'm fortunate to live in a city and there still are plenty of independent shops, but that's not the case all around the country. I can't judge people at Walmart bc I sometimes need to go there myself bc I need stuff, man. For my day-to-day needs I hit local grocers and hardware, but sometimes it's inevitable that you end up at Walmart. I don't go to save a nickle. I go bc they have what I need.

Wrote this last year.  Less than a week later, much to my delight, she actually did dance into the Congress.
-------------------

She came dancing into the Congress, on a wave of azure blue
A young Latina warrior, bearing hope for me and you
In the White House, Dumpin' Donnie, with his phone and Russian lies
Mobilized his base and Fox News, to try to cut her down to size
And they scorned her and they cursed her, called her 'commie biatch' and worse
For she could not gain their power if they dehumanized her first
But she rebuffed their accusations, as she stood firm, straight and tall
And the GOP went crazy, and they doubled down on Wall

Hate was all around us, civility unknown
And the people saw the Proud Boys, and it chilled them to the bone
And they all filled out their ballots, with no time to moan or grouse
And they voted in their numbers, for the dems to take the House
And I know she's living here, and she loves the USA
And I wonder if she'll show us, how we all just lost our way

She came dancing into the Congress, Ocasio-Cortez
What a killer

It's the story of modern american liberalism. Just write off the working class as a bunch of know-nothings not worth saving. Why don't they choose to shop at somewhere other than wal-mart? You know, they could instead drive into the rehabilitated "downtown" and buy $60 mood rings from some rich retiree...

RoyFokker'sGhost: HerptheDerp: "But if we tax businesses then they'll take their business overseas!!"

What about Ferenginar?

HighOnCraic: What about Ferenginar?

I suspect their lack of knowledge of the Rules of Acquisition would work against them.

I find it incredibly unsurprising that technology companies would donate to an up-and-coming representative who actually seems to understand technology, more than the guy who threatens anti-trust legislation against Google because search results reflect that no one links to Gateway Pundit.

Corporate donations are bad and unduly influence the decisions of legislators.  Except for the ones we fetishize.

Pants full of macaroni!!: Wrote this last year.

But Trump is the cult of personality.

Why don't you go ahead and explain what you think these numbers mean?

You don't actually believe this represents donations from those companies to her campaign committee, right?
