I'm not going to read TFA. I'm just going to guess a rural or semi urban white guy, blue collar parents, state college if, raised looking at the world as light shown outlined shadows pushed through a tiny hole in the wall projecting on the opposite wall in an unnecessarily darkened room.  Likes Harlees.

Idiots.

It sounds like he was a NCO who was in a Army Parachuting team accident outside of a war zone in the 90s. So he kept jumping  partly to honor the memories about his team and his service. A dumb idea to jump jingoistically into a mask-less horde of plague rats, to be sure. But the jumping itself isn't bad.

That is one feature which continues to amuse me: Trump's utter and unconcealed contempt for the vast majority of his base. This is also an area in which Trump resembles Stalin much more than Hitler, as Stalin well understood the concept of the "useful idiot", whereas Hitler demonstrated genuine loyalty on several occasions, even when it was dangerous to his ideology and position.

I remember seeing the video of that collision years ago on one of those "caught on video" shows.  Iirc, the two skydivers closing speed was over 200 mph.  I could see how that would kill one and destroy the legs of the other.

As soon as I read the headline I knew it was going to be Dana Bowman.

I was stationed at Ft Bragg at the time of Bowman's accident, and I jumped a bit with the Golden Knights when they'd put on clinics at Raeford. A guy named John in my military free fall class was a talented skydiver who'd enlisted at their invitation to become a Golden Knight but oddly enough, in 1991 if you hadn't graduated from the HALO course you couldn't receive free fall pay, even if you were on the Golden Knights. Anyway, I digress.

Anyway, Dana Bowman pushed, complained, demanded, and whined his way onto the Knights, and very few of them wanted him on the team because although he was a decent enough skydiver, he had shiat judgment and they worried about him.  Turns out they were right to feel that way-he was far out of position during a crossing maneuver where the combined approach speed of the jumpers was well in excess of 200 mph. He had a mid air collision and the smoke grenade mounts on the other jumper's ankles cut off Dana's legs. Other parachutist died and Dana lived.

Everybody in the community knew that Dana was at fault and he is a pariah for his behavior before and after the accident. He was a feel good story for big Army about a guy who just wouldn't give up.  The reality was that he was a selfish prick who shouldn't have been in a position to kill another jumper on the team.

So, a perfect symbol for these freedom fighters at Sturgis.  fark Dana Bowman, and while I'm at it, fark Trump.

Oh, they have that covered!   Look, it's in the article so it must be true:  "With his fellow Veterans there to catch the American Flag he parachuted in with before it touched the ground, Bowman is standing proud in the city of riders."

Well, except the part where they actually didn't catch it before it touched the ground.

We stumbled into the Sturgis rally a few years back as we were returning from a trip out west. Never heard of it before and were amazed at the number of motorcycles in and around Sturgis.

Not my kind of people. (I'm sure there are some good ones!)

I would not go back to that scene if I was wearing a hazmat suit.

"And to be able to bring in the American Flag, you think about what our Veterans have down for us, sacrificing and supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States of America it means an awful lot," Bowman, says

Try not to get any jizz on that flag, boys. I'm seen less fellatio in porn films.
