Pin Fiften Clob: HammerHeadSnark: vrax: Don't forget the wonderful smell of the cowcentration camp Cowschwitz

Don't forget the lovely town of Los Banos -- Spanish for "The Toilets."

FTA: Atwater has more coronavirus cases per capita than Merced county's two largest cities, Merced (population 83,000) and Los Banos (population 40,000), according to a Times analysis. Despite being home to 10.6% of the county's population, the city has about 16.6% of known infections in the county.

Who was in charge of the Naming Committee?

Baños also means baths. It's named for the springs nearby.

Mercey Hot Springs is just south of there. I'd recommend it, except for the fact that I picked up a plantar wart infection on my foot last time I went there (that, and the passel of unruly noisy kids with no boundaries whatsoever.)  Kind of a bummer, won't be back anytime soon.

You say that, but other than "gracias" the most commonly used phrase used by visitors to Spanish-speaking lands is: Donde es el bano? and it is my belief that most people aren't looking to bathe.

I'm just being argumentative.

Mitch Taylor's Bro: common sense is an oxymoron: "The only thing we did with the sanctuary city is allow businesses to open up," Creighton said. "We still socially distance. We still wear masks. We still do good hygiene. ... It seems like we're arbitrarily being picked on."

Those 800-plus COVID cases in your pissant town aren't exactly arbitrary, mister mayor.  Your leadership has failed.

And another reminder that inland California is as conservative as anyplace in the country.

More importantly, they're not being arbitrarily picked on. They're being held to the same standards as everyone else. Defy the state health officer's orders? No emergency money for you. It's that simple, but some people feel like they're, I dunno, privileged or something.

Man Americans never stop whining.

I have to wonder what Americans get out of that statement used all the time in other ways besides I DON'T WANT TO THINK ANYMORE.Anyways, no ones been able to explain why you gave them so much privilege.  Specifically.

I've only been in there once. It was good, but there's a taco truck that services the industrial park on E. Stockton/Grantline called Tacos My Rosita, and he makes the best shrimp tacos I've ever tasted in my life. I legit want to cry some days when I think about how he will inevitably die someday and those tacos will be gone forever.

So one of my coworkers commutes in from Atwater. My employer requires that everyone wear masks, but my coworker refused (hoax, socialism, freedom, etc). He was invited to stay home until he was able to comply with the new work requirement. He enjoyed nearly a week of freedom before succumbing to sweet, sweet socialism. I tried to teach him the secret antifa handshake on his first day back.

Los Banos is great if you're trying to make time on a trip from LA to SF; there is a lateral road that gets you from the 5 to the 101 at a really good juncture. But beyond that, it's a hellhole that you just cut through.

Coalinga is the asscrack of the Central Valley. I've had the displeasure of spending three hours there in a courtroom watching a judge throw people in jail one after the other for traffic offenses. 20mph over, welcome to jail.

It only became "Congress created dustbowl" when Republicans took back the house in 2010. Before that I remember it was the "Pel0si/b0xer/c0sta created dustbowl"

It's only a named-problem when those in charge are Dems. If Republicans are in charge it simply reverts to a generic attack on a generic body.

Also, in spanish Los Banos could be toilets or baths. But let's be real... Los Banos, CA is commentary on the shiathole toilet shiatpile that is basically all of Kern county.

100% wrong: it literally means "the baths."  Does the town name of Bath, England mean "toilet"?  No.  "I need to go to the bath" is a euphemism used in both English and Spanish. I don't know what you do in your house, but in most houses people do not pee and poop into bathtubs.

My favorite is when they put up signs complaining that money spend on high-speed rail should be redirected to new dams.  (a) it ain't your money to spend biatch (b) you already use 100% of south valley water so wtf is a dam going to do for you? and (c) maybe trying to plant an orchard in the extremely dry west valley when you have zero senior water rights was a bad idea

Went to high school in Sanger. Sanger is the armpit of the Central Valley. Am now in Sacramento by way of Wisconsin, Sanger, Merced, Modesto, San Jose, San Francisco, Palo Alto, and San Francisco.

Oh, and when I lived in Sanger, (actually in the sticks outside of the metropolis) we had no air conditioning. Anyone who opines that we're all weak for living with AC can suck my dick and fondle my cool, sweatless balls. Well, if I had those, but you get the picture.

La Grange (about 30 miles east of Modesto) has a confederate flying on the main street which is highway 132. It used to be on a house on the main drag but I think even the locals didn't kin to it because no one would stop at their bar so they moved it to a flagpole to kinds make it a bit more subtle.

You start off in May by saying "Covid hoax, Covid hoax, Covid hoax." By August you can't say "Covid hoax"--that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, sanctuary city, maskless freedom, and all that stuff, and you're getting so abstract.  Now, you're talking about businesses staying open, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, lots of people get infected. "We want restaurants to stay open" is much more effective than even the mask thing and a whole lot more effective than "Covid hoax, Covid hoax."

I got a post card from the Merced County Registrar of Voters. It states that all the voting in Merced County (where Atwater is located) on Nov. 3 will be an all-mail ballot election. There will be no Polling locations. Most of the county votes for Democrats, Atwater is the exception due to a lot of retirees living there from the closed Castle Air Force Strategic Air Command base, now Castle Airport.

The California Central Valley is to be avoided.
It was populated by displaced Oakies, and joined by low brow and anti-education brethren. They practice the same stupidity that brought them and keep them here. With a little luck, they will slowly be forced out, but it's hard to get rid of stupid assholes...

This place isn't 100 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge, yet it is as stupid as a farking dog turd.
This means that there is active resistance to stay stupid... "you ain't from around here, are ya?" mentality.
I just told the wife that the best thing we could do is dam Sacramento river and let it all flood in.
Don't worry, people would have plenty of time to get out... especially since most of it would sink straight to the aquifers that they have been depleting for decades.

Fark the central valley, fark the people there and let nature have reign.

Old joke: what's the difference between an Okie and an Arkie? The Arkie has two mattresses strapped on the beat-up old pickup truck.

That said, the Central Valley has a long history of exploitation going back to the Spanish in the 17th century. When the United States pushed them out (forcibly, with the Treaty of Hildago), another set of exploiters moved right in.

Even today, it's still a feudal system with great concentration of wealth and lands in the hands of a few. Yet, there's more than a little bit of worth-worship by the poorer folks there (including the descendants of dust bowl refugees and, perplexingly, Hispanics.)
