"The hearing tribunal is deeply concerned that Mr. Zapf is missing the point of the concerns laid out by the complaints director," The ACP said in a press release. "Because of Mr. Zapf's lack of ownership of the seriousness of the conduct, he does require significant sanctions to deter him specifically."

If he doesn't own up to the seriousness of his conduct, permanently suspend his license.

Pharmacist is bad at math.

Lost job/license over about 18 grams of meth. Street value, less than $900.
Should have bought it on the street.

The problem with half smart people is they assume others stupidity.

He forged signatures of four different physicians a total of ten times to prescribe uppers for himself, and he could be reinstated in 30 months? He's allowed to come back??? Am I being too harsh or should he never be allowed behind a pharmacy counter again?

No, I asked the same question in my post. Why is he not permanently barred?

Actually, I thought it was the usual leniency you would find in other first world nations. I would guess that most boards in the states would nuke him from orbit and he would go from working the drug counter to working the meat counter.

He didn't murder anyone.  He wasn't selling the drugs to a street gang for profit.  If he wants to practice again he has to pay $37000 in fines and go to a bunch of courses.  He would have to find some pharmacy to hire him now after his well-publicized crimes.

It's fine.  There's no need to go all "war on drugs" on the dude. He f*cked up.  Maybe he can rebuild his life and become a good citizen.  His crimes weren't that big a deal in the grand scheme of things.

In the 70's, my now retired Rx father used to give out amphetamines. They came in free sample packages. Legit. Legal.

And now laughs at both his son and grandson. The 'hoops' we have to go through for vyvanse. (ADD). Wish i knew the first 40 years of my life about the ADD. Meds / no meds are night and day difference.

The $300 bill every month just for me on the otherhand... at least my employer fills half of my HSA and I have the ability to make up the rest...

There are a lot of places up here that you can't fire someone if they have a drug or alcohol problem, especially if they are unionized.
You have to offer them treatment first. After that when they come back if they fark-up again, then you can fire their ass.

Stealing 18 grams of amphetamines would be in the neighborhood of 300-3,600 tablets/capsules depending on the strength (assuming a low of 5mg adderall, a high of 60mg Vyvanse).  Dude's got a problem.  Having such easy access to it is just tempting fate.  He probably figured it'd be harder to catch than simply taking the tablets.  Paying the fines and taking classes won't fix the underlying issue that's causing him to steal them in the first place.

A group of friends like to visit a certain resort town in Mexico every spring and the spouse of one of them is a pharmacist. Apparently the flights going down there and coming back are extremely mellow if you catch my drift.

Well I for one don't have a problem with.
Addiction is only a problem because we shame people over it.
If we got rid of the shame people would seek help.
And the rest would be collateral damage caused by their own choices.
And I'm okay with that.
I probably would have stopped using using cocaine sooner if cocaine was available at every convenience store.
Instead it took me two years I'm trying to stop cocaine.
Which means I spent a year trying to stop.
Because I only did cocaine for 2 years in my entire life.
One of which was trying to stop.
What because of the shame of being addicted it took longer than it needed to.

No shiat. Got out last year, going back for three kids now. (Two visiting mom, one more wanting to bail)

I'm in Nov Scotia now. Since the border opened up the U-Haul guy in town doesn't have any room left in his lot for all the vehicles coming in. Housing is getting tight. Everything put up for sale sells in days it seems.

Alberta is starting to act like America. They're so farked now. One third of Calgary's downtown core is empty.
Taxes have gone through the roof and the idiot Premier is picking fights with doctors during a pandemic.

Can't get more stupid than that...

Ummm, addiction is a problem if it's killing you or destroying your quality of life. My ex has Bipolar and back issues and her doctor had her addicted to 2 or 3 different kinds of opiods.

Then he suggested that she finally try cannabis. Too bad he didn't warn her of the dangers of mixing morphine and marijuana. She had a stash and started taking both. Caused major mental health issues and three different times being admitted to hospital before being finally diagnosed as bipolar 1.

Addictions destroy society or the individual or both.

Correct.
But, our reactions don't help. And it help make it more harmful.
Seriously.
Treat it like we treat cancer and things would play out differently.

True story.

In the medical profession here (USA), there are many states where people with licenses can self-report having a drug problem and go through treatment while keeping their licenses. A local veterinarian had a problem with tranquilizing drugs that he was taking. He went to the state medical board, reported his use, and went through treatment and counseling to where he is (from what I know) clean and sober.
