In the 80's those metal trays where farken stolen at a high rate at the Sonics.
they bolted those leg things to them to supposedly make them useless as serving trays.

Little did they know....that was the perfect thing for cleaning seeds from weed.
You put the mound of weed with the seeds on the tray and tilt it up and give a few shakes and the seeds roll down hill. So at the end you have clean seed free weed at the top and a bunch of seeds ready for planting at the bottom.

fark Sonic. We went there today, 18 miles away. Pulled in and pressed the Order button, waited 10 minutes with no answer. Okay, we pulled out and got in line. Made it to the speaker but after another 10 minutes with nobody asking what we wanted when we talked, guessed the speaker didn't work. Went ahead and drove up to the window after the car in front of us pulled away, figuring that we had to order there. Women at the window said "You have to go get back in line". UM NOPES.

I love Sonic bet fark this particular one. Broke my heart.

The hot dog carhop place by my work has been jam-packed on Saturdays to the point where I had to stop going for my Saturday after work hot dog. I now go mid-week and it's usually much less crowded.

Since Arby's bought them out they have suffered a bit.

We started using the app.  Works better for when the buttons are broken.  The only thing is you can't request extra ice in the drink.  So I guess we just have to buy a bag.

The only time I go to Sonic is when I go to a Ducks or Angels game (it's the only Sonic near me in the LA area).

And since COVID has attending live events a no-go ...

/had The Habit burger last week, still good after being bought out by KFC/Taco Bell

In the before time, our local Sonic would have 5-8 cars at any one time on a typical evening.  These days you damn near have to make a reservation to get a spot.

They shut a lot down here right before Rona.  Only 2 left for over 300k people.  The closed one I used to go to on rare occasion had too many potholes for roller skating.   I guess I've never been by one during peak meal time, but I know the local "as featured in food network diners, drive ins and dives" is killing it.

ya know, I only ever had their chicken sandwiches and their chili cheese dogs.

Generally because it was either them or McDonald's. And I've seen enough McDonald's workings to never. Ever eat there.

/The one in Elyria Ohio is clean as hell. Id eat at that McDonald's.

//once saw a riot break out in LA when a McDonald's ran out of burgers.

///just no... them and taco bell are forever dead to me.

Dammit now I want a footling chili cheese coney with tots.
Unfortunately the nearest Sonic is 4700 miles from here give or take.

My grandad famously would "accidentally" mess with his car windows at A&W in the 50's while the tray was attached.  Then he'd grab any mug that wasn't broken and throw it in the back seat.

Portillo's hasn't had much of a drop off, they seemed to be even busier the past few months.

A lot of the fast food places are understaffed because of COVID, I guess?

/guessing at the reason why, it's a fact that they are understaffed.

There's only 2 in the state (used to be 3) but they still advertise like hell. I used to live close to one, now it's an occasional trip that's a half hour drive.

Pants? It's a drive through.

Wait they can see below the window. No wonder I get dirty looks.

The one we've had about 30 miles from is sucked. I'm in a "forward thinking" city that banned all drive throughs back in the 80s. I'm ok with not having your meal smell up the car for a couple of days afterwards.

I'll put the food in the trunk if we get takeout. No road fries for me. :|

I went to Taco Bell the other day.  There was a line @ drive through so I went in.  Masked up, I was the only one there.  Took a while, but got food and left.  The drive through line was wrapped around the building and I had to change the direction that I wanted to go in order to exit.

/also, I've never been to a place where they actually hang the tray on your window.

Super Dawg (pictured above) used to, but they stopped when the pandemic hit, to limit the contact between employees and customers. Now everything is bagged up like a to go meal.

There was a Steak N Shake in Springfield, IL that had car service into the 90s, I think. You'd park and flash your lights, and they'd come out to take your order.

I don't know if Swenson's (Akron-based with several NE OH locations) is currently doing that or not, as I only get to go when I go there currently, but the trays do hook onto the windows.

/dammit, now I want a Galley Boy burgie

Well, that and the fact that our Sonic closed 8 months ago.
But mostly that stupid kid.

Our local Sonic  by opened a couple of years ago and I've been just a few times.  The last time, I discovered that they'd done away with the hang-on-your-window trays.  The carhop comes out and hands you your food in a bag.    I'd been wondering why nearly everyone was using the drive through, now I know.
