That is so completely un-American.  Such things are so outside the history of discourse in this country it's disgusting that you would even say it.

They should use a baseball bat.

Now that that's all cleared up, though... what do we do about it?  CAN we do anything?  I bet not.

You have to understand, folks - the f*cking Republicans are going to do any- and everything to cheat, legal or not, and they have had decades to figure out every f*cking possible underhanded bullshiat thing they can find to steal elections.  Because they can't win unless they cheat, and they know it.  They also know there are no holds barred any more and there are no serious consequences.

They can and will make the mail slow to a goddamn crawl to keep mail-in ballots from arriving on time  They will collude with voting machine companies to rig vote counts.  They will close polling places, purge voter rolls, and make it damn near impossible to vote in person if you're a registered Democrat, poor or a person of color.  I won't be surprised to see DHS "police" guys standing outside polling places, arresting people for insisting that they are registered voters when their name has been purged - or just because they suspect them of possibly being involved in some chalking of a sidewalk - and holding them without charge until the polls close.  There won't be a f*cking rental van to be had on election day.

Seriously, I think the UN or somebody needs to send tons of election monitors over here.  There's already serious f*ckery going on, we're going to see truly banana republic third-world election rigging vote suppressing shiat in November.

They think that vote by mail is a disaster for them all-around, because higher turnout means lower chances of winning for them - so that needs to be shut the f*ck down and fast.  They think they can convince their followers to vote in person, because their followers are being indoctrinated to not give a shiat about catching COVID and to defy all precautions.  So what if they do catch it from voting?  They already voted, who gives a shiat if they die after?

If Moist von Lipwig had been raised to be a clown, he'd have visited shows and circuses and watched the kings of fooldom. He'd have marvelled at the elegant trajectory of the custard pie, memorized the new business with the ladder and the bucket of whitewash and watched with care every carelessly juggled egg. While the rest of the audience watched the display with the appropriate feelings of terror, anger and exasperation, he'd make notes.

Now, like an apprentice staring at the work of a master, he read Reacher Gilt's words on the still-damp newspaper.

It was garbage, but it had been cooked by an expert. Oh, yes. You had to admire the way perfectly innocent words were mugged, ravished, stripped of all true meaning and decency and then sent to walk the gutter for Reacher Gilt, although 'synergistically' had probably been a whore from the start. The Grand Trunk's problems were clearly the result of some mysterious spasm in the universe and had nothing to do with greed, arrogance and wilful stupidity. Oh, the Grand Trunk management had made mistakes - oops, 'well-intentioned judgements which, with the benefit of hindsight, might regrettably have been, in some respects, in error' - but these had mostly occurred, it appeared, while correcting 'fundamental systemic errors' committed by the previous management. No one was sorry for anything because no living creature had done anything wrong; bad things had happened by spontaneous generation in some weird, chilly, geometrical otherworld, and 'were to be regretted'

Three Crooked Squirrels: Outline

thank you!

some farker mentioned outline earlier this year (possibly you!) and wow is it not the best thing ever? no paywalls, no ads, no stupid top navbars, no stupid side navbars, no stupid floating layers of crap, &c. &c.

no longer works for NYT, they must have (im?)politely directly requestmanded that. and for some reason, it used to work on politico - but unlike nyt which now makes it immediately return "this site not supported" - politico now makes it churn for a longwhile and then shiat the bed. oh wait, either outline improved something or politico un-broke something, works again.

I also use a handy bookmarklet for it: https://www.designernews.co/comments/257987

*Urkel-snorts* - I just remembered something from a couple months ago.

so, her pharma has literally everyone working from home, who doesn't need presence in the actual physical plant. hurray!

and her work at least, she's able to sign PDFs electronically/digitally/whatever. but! they switched from DocuSign (or to DocuSign? I forget which, doesn't really matter.) - and the new software would claim the signature had been accepted, except it wouldn't actually sign the document. thigh-larious!

so they had everyone (at home)
- print their documents
- sign the documents by hand
- scan the documents & email, or fax the documents.

and because we're talking, y'know, serious medical bidness, this isn't 1 or 2 pages, this isn't "only the last page needs a signature" this is 20-100-or-more pages, and EVERY SINGLE PAGE needs signed. ha! ha ha ha!

It's a numbers game. They probably assume that Democrats will be more likely to attempt to avoid voting in person than Republicans will because, by and large, Democrats think COVID is a real thing that is actually dangerous and Republicans think it's a hoax being used to undermine Trump and even if they do get it they'll be fine. I guess we'll find out whether that is borne out in practice.
