The two-term Republican ex-president unsuccessfully championed a bill to reform immigration in 2007, which drew support and opposition from both parties. That proposal would have tightened border security and created a path to citizenship for millions of immigrants.

He wasn't wrong on that front.

I was OK with that plan by GWB. It just was a hot potato to approach so close to the 2008 elections, I recall.

/Open to correction if I'm not recalling accurately.

1. GOP never cared about immigrants for anything other than to suppress wages and/or to join the GOP

2. therefore IDGAF about W's performative bullshiat and honestly you shouldn't either

I wonder if he included trump's mother and trump's wives.  They should have been stopped at the border.  After all, trump's mother brought a disease and a rapist to this country.

By the end of W's presidency, I felt genuinely bad for the dude. He was in way over his head. He was undeserving of the office, had managed it badly and had made some very awful decisions. In the end, he was a human and his humanity made him seem sympathetic. The warm little antics that he and Michele Obama have shared in public together seemed reassuring in some way.

Trump? I can't develop sympathy for him. His superpower is creating disasters, like a malicious version of Baby Huey.

Persistence with an art is a sign that a human accepts imperfection and strives to improve.

Donald J Trump could never paint as well as GWB. I've taught art and do art. I've seen much improvement in GWB's painting since he started.

Good job, GWB! I'm glad to see your paintings. ✅

Now go to The Hague.

The one thing W did was listen to people smarter than him and do as they said. Unfortunately a lot of the time those people were pretty evil (*cough* Cheney *cough) so a lot of evil shiat went down. But he would have listened to Fauci. So the money would still be flowing up to the 1%, but just maybe we'd have this virus under control like the rest of the world.

No one could handle it worse than the current POTUS. That crazy guy from New England somewhere (vermin supreme?) could handle the pandemic better. Remember "heck of a job Brownie" because he gave FEMA to a crony whose previous job was running a fancy horse show thing.

That said, seems like a nice book and good for him to produce it. Clearly he should have been an artist and not a politician.

Bush Jr. would have literally been whatever his daddy was. If Papa Bush had been a democrat Bush Jr would have been a democrat. But since Grandpappy bush was an actual fascist that tried to overthrow the democratically elected government of the United States, Pappy and Jr. were both Republicans.

Bush was terrible because he was a naive quasi-leader who was surrounded by terrible people who he trusted and listened to, leading to terrible outcomes in Afghanistan, Iraq, Hurricane Katrina and the economy leading up to the meltdown.

Trump is terrible because he surrounds himself with ass-kissers, morons and conmen, all of whom he ignores, except for Putin, because he is a narcissist in the early stages of dementia, who isn't actually interested in government at all.

If I had to spend time with one, I'd choose Bush.

We know how that movie turns out.

There was an Israeli sketch comedy show where one of the vignettes was the application interviewer at the Vienna Art Institute talking to a young Mr. Hitler. And the interview was a very obnoxious Jewish man who was harshly criticizing his art.

At the end he was like: "You don't put any passion into your work! Look at me! LOOK AT ME! How do you feel about me, Mister Hitler?"

"I... I don't...."

"You hate me, don't you? ... GO ON! Say how much you hate me! Show some passion!"

"I-- I HATE YOU!"

"See! You should take that rage and put it to use! You're not cut out for art. Maybe you should go into public speaking or something?"

He also wasn't wrong on his stance with Fanny Mae, he questioned the steps taken that ended up in the mortgage crisis. He did take on a hard job and regardless of what came since he gave it more respect than the current administration.

He probably would have, especially after having the experience of something like 9/11.  On the other hand, Cheney would have us in a war with Iran right now, especially after the Beirut "attack."

Bush had a number of good policies, actually. He's human. Not 100% bad, not 100% good. Not a caricature.

His bad ones simply eclipse the good ones. Massively.

it is the lack of perfected skill. The same reason my wife, art school, likes my drawings and paintings more than her own. While her work looks a lot more like what we are drawing she likes mine better because of the rough look.

I used to do a lot of drawing and was hardly ever satisfied with my work. I had a few winners in my mind but most were always just beyond reach. That is why I kept reaching. That and healing from a lot marriage. It is super good therapy. In my experience most artists like other work more than their own because it doesn't reach the expectations visualized vs what it became.

I should get back into it. I have plenty of time and the materials on hand.
