Nadie_AZ: Not news: young voters may or may not vote

Possibly young voters have woken up and become energized - possibly due to the Pandemic, the civil unrest, the lack of jobs, etc.  They may have even noticed our President's a total moron.

I would agree, normally young voters don't vote but I suspect that they will now.

In 2018 midterms and recent primaries young voter turnout has been fairly high compared to past elections.

Are you sure?  Because I'm pretty sure you'd have to be high as goddamn kite to vote for Trump.

The cynical side of me believes that if the youth really do turn out in record numbers to vote against Trump, it's because he threatened to ban TikTok.

/even if that's the case...I'll take it.

Young "voters."

If they actually voted we wouldn't be in this mess, but they don't.

2020-08-06 4:47:37 PM
Well, OK, in the contest between what we have now and Biden, that's not all that impressive. But OK.

Hopefully more of these people will be inspired to vote than they were in 2016.

yeah they're gonna vote for the guy who has no sympathy for millenials and promises that nothing will fundamentally change

FFS not even Biden cares if young people vote for him, he's so certain that white people over 50 are sick of Trump and that's all he needs

Uncle Pooky: WHY IS ANYONE IN ANY DEMOGRAPHIC VOTING FOR TRUMP?

Selfishness, hatred, "hurting the right people," greed, willful ignorance, delusional brainwashing by our pop culture built on Horatio Alger bullshiat, "because [ pastor | AM radio | FN | $authoritarianleader ] said so"....

I got more, or was that rhetorical?

2020-08-06 5:00:38 PM
Not news.  Younger generations, each one, are getting more liberal.  Boomers are the last conservative generation and are no longer in the majority of voters.

Difficulty: Boomers have experience in voter suppression, fraud, making everything about them.

Deathmatch: Boomers, who'd love to see things stay conservative and as they are... vs... younger voters, who are tired of this tired old shiat and would like to see something new, damn the godamn voter suppression, limited polling places, closed polling places, limited vote by mail opportunities...

TikTok. We'll just have to say no.

I heard that some young folks who voted for Trump in 2026 did so as a joke. "Wouldn't it be funny if he won?" Same mentality that made Carrie the prom queen. And we see how that turned out.

2020-08-06 5:03:59 PM
And now, let's make sure they vote.

What, did we not vote for Hillary hard enough? Where the f*ck is the bar we need to be clear to pass your purity test?

From the farking article.

Please stop misrepresenting that quote. He promised the ultrawealthy that they could afford a tax hike (to pay for socially useful government services), because even with that tax hike, their lifestyles would not fundamentally change.

Because he hurts people. not even joking.

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/1/8/18173678/trump-shutdown-voter-florida

"I voted for him, and he's the one who's doing this," Minton told Mazzei. "I thought he was going to do good things. He's not hurting the people he needs to be hurting."

Young people tend to vote Democrat when they get around to maybe bothering to vote.  News at 11.

You know why old people have Medicare, Social Security, property tax relief, and a bunch of other freebies?  They vote in droves.

You know why young people have student loads, rising college tuition, overpriced (for their risk) health insurance, and a bunch of other burdens?  They don't vote.

spongeboob: But he still leads among young White males right?

Probably.

White men go strongly for republicans, even young white men (though not nearly as strongly).  Makes me very embarrassed to be a white man.

Still befuddles me that republicans basically lose literally every other major demographic (and amongst some, it's INSANELY lopsided), yet somehow still manage to win elections.

Even though Gen X are also scum (don't majority support Trump and then I'll stop saying that), the self important, know-it-all authoritarian boomers are particularly loathesome.

Now, examine the roadblocks that young people, low income, etc., have to deal with when trying to vote, vs a retiree with the same address for 20 years.

The harder it is to do something, the less people on average will do it.

Hence the hard attempts at voter suppression by conservatives, like closing polling places, ID requirements, etc.

"NOT TRUMP" didn't really work last time.  Young people don't watch CNN and MSNBC.

Young people overwhelmingly support M4A, the Green New Deal and free college, maybe the Dems should run on that.
