Unverified Twitter accounts are news now?

/I know my mom's account has a few timelines about how aliens are stealing Earth's supply of toilet paper.  Sounds outrage worthy to me.

It was inevitable that the peasants would discover our place and how little the US leaders really gives a crap.

So when November rolls around and the protests get wild, remember something: you have more in common with the counter-protesters than the politicians you're shilling for.

Not quite true.  They also believe in hierarchy and rigid social stratification.  Cruelty is both a privilege they reserve for themselves and a way to keep their lessers in line.

Just 'cos they're aliens, doesn't mean they don't have to visit the little boys' room. Although they probably do something weird and alien-esque, like it comes out of the top of their heads or something.

It occurs to me that this is a lot of why the John Wick movies are so popular.  John Wick is one man, a man low in the social stratification, and he takes down the upper class after they do an act of cruelty to him.

The movie series started losing its interest as John swam higher and higher up into the System, culminating in the bullshiat scene where he sacrificed the memory of what he loved in order to gain a place in the System.  Then he was kicked down again, because systemic cruelty, and now he's the underclass again at the end of the third movie.

Private company seeks to keep their housing full so they can maintain max profit. Film at 11!

Duh, of course that's their position. They don't get to make the decision, so they're trying to sway the decision of those who do to keep the dorms at full capacity.

And, if the Universities don't open or only allow partial dorm occupancy, then the company has to live with it.

It's a win/win. The school doesn't spend money on residence halls and the company running them rakes in stupid amounts of cash and offers the bare minimum to the student.

What's not to like?

Oh, you're a student? Well, fark you, and we're raising your tuition.

Modern American conservativism is rooted in the disaffected aristocracy that survived the French Revolution.  These are people who looked around at the turn of the 19th century and went "Why the hell should we listen to what peasants have to say, as if they know anything or deserve more than contempt?"

It's about creating hierarchies among people that serve as false meritocracies.  You can dream of rising to the next tier, but in reality if you don't it's because you belong where you are.  And, of course, the top tier decides exactly how all the other tiers live and die.  Anyone who doesn't like this is "fighting the natural order" and "seeking to foster instability".

It has always been fascism, even before we called it fascism.  What many conservative voters believe - honest pay for honest work, honest charity for one's neighbors, low government interference (actually a liberal trait unless you're talking about rich business owners), never had anything to do with it.  They just co-opted the Protestant Work Ethic and mutated it until it now reads "If you can't work, you don't deserve to eat" and will soon read "If you can't work at something we consider extra-valuable, you don't deserve to eat."

I'd point out that they lean heavily on the strategy of stoking hate between lower tiers of their hierarchies as a way to deflect hostility from the horrific conditions they inevitably create with their aristocratic greed.  So cruelty is, in fact, still something they encourage in others.  They just don't expect to be on the receiving end.  They teach everyone to punch down, as they do.

They  do. Many universities also require all freshman and sometimes other classes as well to live on campus. Living on campus entails purchasing a mandatory meal plan.
