Another data point proving 'Muricans are truly stupid.

It's not exactly a huge hit here in the UK. And I'd say a lot of it depends on knowing the many guests they have on to do tasks, pretty much all of whom would be unknown to American audiences. Ditto Would I Lie To You.  Cats Does Countdown is great, but again based on another UK show and starring lots of UK guests. Room 101 might have worked better because there is actually content that makes sense even if you don't know the people.

Would I Lie To You. Guests have to tell a fact, and the other team have to work out if it is true or a lie.

I always found that one of the strengths was a good mixture of household names and up-and-comers. Their work outside of the show is rarely mentioned and, whether you've heard of them or not, you get to know them over the course of the series.

It's the one of the few show that my parents and my kids enjoy equally.

It gets over 1m viewers per episode, on Dave. Which is why Channel 4 have bought it, and why Alex Horne's been doing TM related stuff on C4 so much recently.

TFA's a bit light on details, though. This was a second attempt at a US produced version? Because wiki says an 8 episode series ran on Comedy Central in 2018.

Britain does panel shows like no other, but Taskmaster was in a class of its own.

I think in general I agree with those above that point out that part of the joy of taskmaster is being familiar with the British Comedy scene.

Also, everyone in America that is going to watch taskmaster is already pirating taskmaster, which is probably the same for all of the panel shows.

?
I was joking as this show was not made by CW, some of the CW shows they produce look like a "wokeness" parodies and not surprisingly the ratings reflect that. Batwoman is the most glaring example. I hope this is now clear even to the Americans among us.

Farking hilarious.. oh yes. The CW viewers seem to be adoring the network focus on unrelated "woke" nonsense and not on being fun superhero adventure shows. Ask the producers of Catwoman and Supergirl.

Ah, so you're not from America. That would explain why you're so glaringly unfamiliar with the CW and it's relatively short history.

Hint: Even before discovering "wokeness," it was never, ever on the ratings level of the other national networks.

Doesn't really count as it's been fully broadcast in the UK, this is just the American run being pulled from broadcast. TFA says it might be streaming.

Wow, I must really need to spell this out for you: Somehow you say the network is failing because it's too "woke," but also this show failed because it wasn't "woke" enough.

Also, no, those of us actually familiar with American television do not think of the CW as super "woke." We don't think about it at all.

2020-08-06 9:38:05 AM
I didn't think this would do well over here. British panel shows and celeb game shows rule but America doesn't seem to dig them, for the most part.
We try some ourselves in the summer rerun season with Match Game and other shiat but it's just filler over here.
Love me some QI, 8 out of 10 Cats, Cats does Countdown, Would I Lie To You, Mock the Week, HIGNFY etc. Thank God for YouTube!

*Glances at TFA again*

Oh wow, I was expecting them to have actually bothered remaking the show with American comedians, but nope, they just rebroadcast them on American TV with British comics. Helps to explain why they failed.

/Doing the same thing apparently did OK on Comedy Central a while back, but that's a targeted audience of comedy fans.

I'm not American however I can read ratings charts. I never mentioned a comparison to other national shows. The ratings are dropping significantly compared to the CW shows themselves.

No, but there clearly is where you are, because I just micro-explained it to you and you could only insult my intelligence without addressing the actual point made.

Related-ish: The podcast "How Did This Get Made?" had almost all its episodes on YouTube put there by fans to get around a paywall, and someone spotted it and took them down. This lasted less than a year before someone put them back up again under a mew account.

Almost all these shows are made by independent production companies who won the rights, and depend on sales for their profit, so having episodes freely available on Youtube is bad news for them. The BBC wouldn't care, but they don't own the rights.

there really was no need for the CW to take such a risk in order to prove that they are 'Woke AF', and risk alienating the masses of comic fans.

Really?

They may need to add more sound effects and reaction shots, and provide a preview/recap before/after commercials.

Everyone knows the majority demographics of superhero adventure shows are gender studies identity politics students and people leaving the shows I mentioned in droves was just a coincidence and nothing to do with the content of the show itself.

Most of the brit shows I watch are panel shows: WILTY, QI, Insert Name Here, 8oo10c.  Also loving "Travel💼Man"

tried watching Taskmaster but, like the CW, gave up on it after the first episode.  I didn't even make it all the way through.  I. just. didn't. care.
