Jailing people seems to be the republican things for other things  so maybe try that for people that don't wear masks in public.

Did they not have a high school where they grew up?

They can't be educated.

We're farked.

And I told that teacher lady...

Here's the problem with educating people: even if you were to spend 8 hours a day educating them, they can still go to their idiot echo chambers online and get uneducated real fast.

Education happens both ways.  We are trying to educate them about the actual science behind this.  Then they go home and they have thousands of people who think like them on other things educating them on the "real" story, how science has already contradicted itself on this and mask mandates are a means of control - control of your communication, control of your thinking. Accepting this control is the first step on the slippery slope of left-wing control of every aspect of life, which is a threat to the nation and the world.

It's really simple, actually - for people who are convinced that Democrats and left-leaning people are a fundamental danger to the Republic and to society, mask mandates are nothing more than the Left taking advantage of a panic to push forward their agenda of control.  It's not rational, and you can't educate it away.

Saw a woman in Fred Meyers tonight I had an urge to rip into... She had a mask on - around her chin (state currently requires everyone to wear one in public buildings). And her two young kids (I'm guessing under 10) didn't have jack on their faces.

Anti-maskers are like Bart Simpson putting his hand over the stove burner repeatedly. All we can do is hope that they expire before they spread the virus to the innocent.

/WTF autocorrect? "Anti-maskers" does not equal "headline?".

Given how willing American cops are to beat, taser, and/or shoot, random people for no reason at all, it could be possible to kill two birds with one stone by giving the police carte blanche to attack plague rats in exchange for stricter rules against unjustified police brutality.

Or fine them.  Same fines as speeding/reckless driving should work since it's a similar matter of endangering the public.  500$/infraction and escalate to criminal charges and non-financial penalties on the third infraction within six months.

The above is me being forgiving and gentle, by the way.

The more realistic method would be to treat entering any enclosed building with strangers in it without a face covering in place as assault, so one misdemeanor charge per incident and then on incident three it becomes a felony with minimum jail time.  This is the correct way to handle it within the context of existing law, my first, more forgiving suggestion would actually require passing new laws at the municipal level so it's really going out of our way to coddle the snowflakes.

With this pandemic we've reached the point where everyone has made up their minds about masks. Before you educate anyone on mask use they are prepared to ignore everything you say if it's not in agreement with them. This means we either use force, financial or physical, to get them to comply or say fark it and do the best we can with some wearing them and some not. Whining about people not wearing masks accomplishes nothing.

What would education look like today had the Jesuit high schools had shock collars in the late 1800s?  I'm guessing every school would be using them today.

Critical thinking skills can and should be taught in schools, but that would make ad executives, Republicans, and religious assholes extremely unhappy.

So what you're saying is, we need to fine the everliving dogshiat out of people who go into public spaces without a mask, and enforce the hell out of it. I'd settle for that.

It did a bang-up job for seatbelts.

Seriously, how many people need to die from easily preventable problems before some people are like "huh... shiat. I guess all these people toppling over dead from licking door handles out of spite is kind of a problem."

Sometimes, I wish God were real so he could look upon some people in this thread, realize his mistake, and turn them into the farking armadillos in the middle of the road they were clearly meant to be.

My Mother in Law: Alive. She thought it was all bull shiat and was extremely vocal about it. She has no job but wanted everyone to to back to work because of her inconveniences. She got it while traveling, spent about 2 weeks in the hospital, recovered and now feels like (and is) a farking moron.

The only reason her views have changed is because she had it herself, otherwise she would she would still be spouting the same bull shiat.

If it sounds like I'm saying the wrong person in my family died, I am.

Some high schools are really pretty bad, and a lot of people were either not paying attention or being actively disruptive. I'm pretty sure a significant number of the people I graduated with had a middle school reading level at best, and the science classes were not well attended.

Because I never had before, I looked up the 1918 flue estimates for dead in the US (ignoring per capital). The bottom estimate is ~500k. The US is pushing 200k right now... Within spitting distance of having as many dead from Covid as the Spanish Flu. That amazing and terrifying.

It doesn't fall into he category of "easily preventable" when you have to operate businesses at 50% capacity. On top of that, the efficacy of a piece of a filthy piece of cloth over your face (most people probably aren't washing) is debatable.

You know what isn't debatable? Not distancing and failing to wear a mask helps this thing spread, sometimes proves deadly. Ask Herman Cain.

You know what...? Since this thread has already got me angry, I just want to talk about how somebody accused me of "politicizing Herman Cain's death," the other day.

Fark you, person. Herman Cain politicized his own pointless avoidable death. This is something that shouldn't have been political in the first place, but the dumbest among us insist on making proclamations like "I'm gonna fark that alligator for Trump," only to challenge us for making things political when we ask why the fark they'd even do that in the first place.
