At this point it might be best for all concern because irregardless of whether the criticism of Ellen DeGeneres is justified, the bridges are all burning.

"Betrayed"?

It's one thing if your subordinates were told but none of them told you.  Yeah the buck stops with you, but you can fire them for lack of candor.

It's another thing entirely when you are told and do jack and shiat about it.

so much drama

She's had a good run, and probably doesn't need the money. Trying to repair this is going to prove difficult, no matter who you are. Social media and the anti LGBTQ evangelical/conservative shiatstains will have a heyday.

This.  What are you sticking around for, you've got more money than many small countries.  Go buy one with a beach.

After reading a lot of the complaints (thanks to the farker who gave me a link in a redlit thread) and now this article, she seems to subscribe to the old Catholic indulgences scheme. She feels that since she donates so much to charity, she's allowed to treat those around/under her like shiat.

She wants to take her box of rocks and her millions and go home. Boo hoo.  In truth it's kind of the ultimate F You to the staff who works for her as anytime a headliner like this changes it puts everyone associated out of work.

It's part of the reason that the Connors continuing after Rosanne blew up her career was such a big deal and I'm glad it worked for that crew. Truth be told they were a very talented group of writers and I was actually very pleasantly surprised with how good the writing on the reboot was. I would hope Ellen would exit her own show on better terms.

We always thought Anne Heche was the crazy who ruined their relationship, but now I'm starting to see that Heche was dealing with a narcissistic asshole for a partner, and I have great sympathy for that.

While I like that idea, I say don't replace her at all. Don't put another talk show on in that spot, nor another judge show, game show, cooking show, or reality show.

Put on an actual decent scripted show-- not a shiatty soap opera-- and stop fostering this whole culture of celebrity worship, gossip as entertainment, and low-effort television that's designed for naive 1960s housewives. The working world changed in the last 60 years, folks. Not everyone watching television in the daytime is a bon-bon eating June Cleaver/Peg Bundy type. There are intelligent working women who work different hours and watch some daytime TV now. There are men of varying tastes and intelligence who work in the evening and watch TV in the day. Kids are stuck at home now, too!

Grab a good TV-14 series and slap it into Ellen's time slot. The world would be better for it.

Or hey, maybe some actual educational or historical programming? That might be an idea, too.

To those who say she should cash out and enjoy- I don't think these celebrities do it purely for the money. Ellen has been a gozillionaire 10 times over for a long time. She's in it for the adulation, not the cash flow. It's pure narcissism.

I have always wondered, when you have more money than you could ever spend...cash out and just disappear.  Go to Bali and just enjoy the lack of a toxic work environment.

Yeah, it's conservatives who are bringing her down.  That's the ticket.  Like the two MAGA guys who were such huge fans of the show Empire.

THIS.  She should be relaxing on a beach somewhere.  She never needs to work again.  Or hell, just go back to doing stand-up every now and then.

Baron Krelve: Ellen has been a gozillionaire 10 times over for a long time. She's in it for the adulation, not the cash flow. It's pure narcissism.

So she should have just quit when she hit certain income threshold?  Then the same people would, had she quit then said, "she was only in it for the money...pure greed".  The same could be said for anyone, most of whom are male, who has long running popular show.   Hannity, for example.  Though I am in no way comparing her to him.

Not getting in the middle of WTF ever is going on there, but it may be that she actually enjoys doing the show.

Don't watch her show..or Hannity either.

Came here to say this. I once had a boss who frequently declared that it was a privilege to work for him. He wasn't entirely wrong (he was very influential and definitely advanced my career) but it was easily the most toxic work environment I've ever endured. I think this mindset leads people to not care about the workplace environment because they think everyone should just be so happy to be there that they'll put up with anything.

I mean, it's really gotten to the point where I can watch stuff on YouTube that's far more entertaining to me than 95% of what's on TV today.

I go to a doctor's office, look at what on their TV, then pullout my phone and watch YouTube.

That and a rival in the same line of work maybe just as bad or worse.

I looked that up.   Amanda Rogers.  She adopted the name Portia de Rossi when she was 15.

Good thing Norma Jean Mortenson never changed her name, or Maurice Micklewhite and Eric Bishop never changed their names.

That's Tom Hanks. Ellen has a prized collection of children's skulls in a showroom that she has her maid dust on a daily basis. She frequently takes power naps in there.

Quit the show
Chill
Do standup again

The TV show is baby food
Do comedy like a grown up

Bonus: they can't biatch at ya about one show every once in a while
Seinfeld does it
Williams did it
All the biggies do it
Bring Murphy back with ya

We need some good standup comedy these days
Not mind numbing daytime TV

Fair enough.

Though thinking about Maurice Micklewhite (Michael Caine), I wonder if he would have changed his name these days.  Benedict Cumberbatch and all.
