I interviewed a guy years ago.  He had flown in from some other state for the interview.  He was wearing golf shoes.  Atleast they were soft spikes but you could still hear them gripping the carpet when he walked.

He had flown in late and the meeting was first thing.  He had grabbed his golf shoes instead of dress shoes.

If they would have left it in November then UM could at least claim they didn't lose in 2020 because the season was cancelled in late October.

That's... well very on brand for Harbaugh. I'll give him one more year to get something happening at Michigan.

He's certainly skating on thin ice, but he is still there for this year. It's put out or get out time for him.

I guess I should have said "should have been last year", more to the point I was trying to make.

Either way, with no college football happening this year, he'll neither suck nor be good enough for anything to happen to him, which is unfortunate for Michigan.

Fair point. I would not be surprised if CFP is cancelled altogether this season.
Mediocrity is a disease at UofM. They're just good enough to get excited for, but just bad enough to lose the big games and never achieve anything.

Serious question: Can someone explain to me how having a "conference only" schedule was sold as a way to deal with COVID? It inherently doesn't really protect anyone does it?

Not really. The assumption is/was that, by going to a conference-only schedule, you could reduce air travel and hotel stays by taking a bus to away games since they are "close by". This obviously does not work for Nebraska, Maryland or Rutgers. Some believe that reducing team exposure to people in airports, hotels, etc. would reduce the chances of spreading COVID-19

I think it's more about not losing out on Big10 Network cash. If they gave a crap about COVID they would have cancelled the season weeks ago.

Like, that's why all the sports are playing. TV deals.

Everyone else's answers make sense too.

I'm go out on a limb and suggest that it's this early in the schedule so they might get a chance to play that specific game before COVID shuts down the season.

Damn. how long are the B1G league schedulers going to keep hazing my Huskers?  Playing the Badgers, Hawkeyes, Gophers and Buckeyes in consecutive weeks will be brutal.  No one else has to face 4 power teams in a row without a bye week.  We get a bye after the meat grinder then a peer opponent Northwestern followed by another power team, Penn State.  IDK how tough Sparty is predicted to be this year.

Purdue has a tough run to open the season against three power opponents back to back. Everyone else has no more than two power teams in a row without a bye or lower tier opponent break.

Whisky's schedule looks really favorable for them. They have the Wolverines and Hawkeyes as away games but they have a bye week between them.  The Hawkeyes have a favorable schedule but they have two power opponents back to back to end the season.

Iowa has a chance to go 6-0...

And then finish 6-4

// But will likely be 7-3

The scheduling helps ensure each opponent is following the same protocols, given the protocols can differ from conference to conference.

OSU fans thinking that  "Ryan Day" is going to continue to attract big names to OSU on his own merits after a couple years when the strength of Meyer's recruiting classes filter out of OSU sound as delusional as MSU fans who think they're still going to be relevant this year, or any year in the near future now that Coach D retired.

Maybe you are right, it is slowing down over time, the 2022 class is currently ranked number 2:

Dude, I am a longtime UM fan.  It's over.  We can't compete with them.   Just bite the pillow and let them continue to roger us in the ass.  They don't hurt as bad as App State.

I was driving back from Columbus with my folks after being at the OSU opening game that year, when the postgame radio coverage switched over to UM-App State.  We laughed our asses off from the 70-670 merge all the way to Springfield.
