Ask yer granddad....  (About the 1938 Carnegie Hall concert with Benny Goodman)

."At the original 1938 concert, there WAS dancing (and clapping, and shouting, and young men rushing the stage), much to the chagrin of both Goodman and the critics. It is often rumored that Goodman was not fond of dancers. From what I've read, I think that while he was willing to play for all sorts of audiences, he preferred to keep the dancers in the ballroom and the concert goers in their seats. Young men, nicknamed "ickies", would hang out around the edge of the stage and gyrating, bouncing, and wagging their heads with the music....the forerunners of "headbangers", if you will. Goodman especially hated these guys. "

I didn't start agreeing with choices until about halfway through the list.  Largely because of the

factor.

List fails without "Ace of Spades" by Motorhead.

They picked "Blood, Milk and Sky" from Astrocreep 2000?  That should have been "Supercharger Heaven" by a wide margin.

And, insanely missing:

It has the Beatle's 'Helter Skelter' as well.

Picked Panama from Van Halen's catalog and For Whom the Bell Tolls from Metallica. I don't think head banging is what the listmaker thinks it is.

Wow, apparently I stopped listening to metal in about 1995. Also, Helmet's "Unsung" should be on there.

I mean, they mostly have the bands correct, but their choice of song selection leads one to believe that they have never headbanged before in their lives.

Ace of Spades lacks the proper consistent sound for a good headbang.  The correct Motorhead song is Orgasmatron.

I think this quote about Mercyful Fate's appearance on the list is dead-on and a big problem with most metal nowadayze:

Helmet is "alternative metal", so yeah, metal.

Also, the song is from 1992.  I know that because I had a band back then and we used to play Unsung.

The first album is the only one where I love every single song.  He started experimenting more with pop and other instrumentation later on and sometimes it is brilliant and other times misses the mark.   I still like it on the whole though.

Yes, because the definition of "metal" is really that narrow.

Being a bass player, it was nice to have a Hipshot to do that very thing on my main bass.

But I had to have separate basses for the more esoteric tunings on the 12 string bass.
