Not just a reboot, a "reimagining."  Those things never go well.  This is gonna suck.

They already tried a reboot. It sucked ass. This will suck ass too. The charm of the original R&S was they were a filthy show on a kid's network. Much like Rocko's Modern Life, it was more about seeing what kinda crap they could get past the radar. FCC/network constraints make for a lot smarter jokes.

Same happens when shows switch from broadcast to cable channels. While I liked Futurama's return on CC, it lost a little something. The jokes were more obvious and less thought-provoking. Like the episode that featured the iconic Kegelcizer. If that joke had been made on CC instead of its original Fox run, it probably would've been called the Vagina-Strengthener.

IIRC, it started out on MTV but was so popular it moved to Nick's night time lineup and they asked the creator to tone it down, he didn't, so they fired him.

Considering that Kricfalusi is an alleged kiddy-diddler, no farking thanks. Discovering that explains the later seasons waaaaaay too clearly.

Everything that was subversive about Ren & Stimpy is completely mainstream now.

Going to go as well as the Powerpuff Girls reboot...

According to the article, Comedy Central has suggested that John K. is not involved. This is both a good and bad thing, really.

The original reboot was what you get when John Kricfalusi is let loose from his leash with no censorship. R&S: Adult Party Cartoon sucked hard.

I think Rocko's Modern Life aged better, frankly. Probably because coming along AFTER Ren & Stimpy debuted forced Joe Murray to be more creative sneaking shiat past the censors.

And agreed about Futurama losing something off their fastball on Comedy Central. It was still good, but it wasn't at it's peak. They could still knock it out of the park sometimes, though.

ha the dummer in my high school metal band got a Ren & Stimpy tattoo and we all laughed at him.  "You do know that this reference is dated ALREADY, right??"

you eeediot, no one wants to have to be creative and fresh. they all want to just pretend what was freshly creative and popular from back when, was just their creativity all along.

Yeah, that's from R&S: Adult Party Cartoon, the 2003 John K-helmed reboot. That's prime example of what made APC so bad: John K got to do whatever he wanted, without any constraints. It went from subversive humor to just stupid and gross.

Ren and Stimpy is almost the perfect thing to reboot, actually. The characters have almost no cohesive canon (or even aesthetic) to muck up, but they are still pretty recognizable and none of us need to feel bad for the creator being completely shut out of the process.

Stopped reading there.

I thought it was because of all the delays in production as mocked in the Simpson's episode the front.

Subby is right. Didn't like the show the first time around & I am sure I won't like it this time. Just toss it into the hole with Aeon Flux, The Maxx, Reign, and all the other craptastic 90's cartoons.

since R&S APC was so far from everything that was great about the original, it could be surmised that Sickfarklusi had little to do with what was great about the original (1st 2 seasons).  a big stretch, but i'll take it.  a reboot, with him on board would be indefensible, and without him would still be quite pointless.
just, no.
noooo.

John K without BS&P showed what a disaster he really is. It's like someone said about chess. It's the rules and restrictions that make it the game that you can be a master at, but never really master. Adult Party Cartoon, and even The Ripping Friends is when you take the brakes off, or the Artist claims they are "Pushing The Envelope". Sometimes that envelope is holding a toxic environment, not a person's creativity.

It's the external perspective high functioning madness. Some angles, like putting both eyes on one side of a head, are OK. Others, like, "Hey! 16 is old enough," aren't.
