Sure, it's hard to play an Independent schedule with so many conferences dropping their non-conference games but it's still the responsible, adult choice to make. I hope other teams start following in their footsteps.

As much as I love college football, this is the smart thing to do.

I do expect the P5 conferences to be the very last to follow suit.
Too much money at stake.

But I feel bad for the other sports, some colleges have already cancelled some smaller sports, and this trend will continue.
Lots of kids in cross country and volleyball could lose scholarships

FTFA: Huskies football coach Randy Edsall said he consulted his players...

Randy Edsall is of course well known for consulting with his players before making a decision or even telling them of his decision.

UConn was in the single worst position of any FBS school this year; an independent with every conference limiting or eliminating OOC games.  BYU is in a similar situation, though being so close to a lot of MWC teams they may be able to pick up a lot of games if they go with an ACC-style +1 model.  So is Army, their season may end up just being the Navy game.

UCONN dropping football is going to cost the athletic program hundreds of dollars

Good riddance.

UCONNs last year in the American was a drag on the conference as a whole, and even so, the American was right next to the ACC in overall power rankings with them being a boat anchor. Good luck in the Big East and being an independent that's not Notre Dame.

That was the previous coach's idea of creating a rivalry in the American that failed miserably.

To be fair, I was a little hasty in my last post - I get that UCONN doesn't have many historical rivals with a good chunk of the conference, but they were never getting into the B1G or ACC. They could've moved over to the Big East and still kept their football in the American and agreed to play 2-3 BB games with American teams. At least they'd have 8 teams on the schedule always if they did that.

UMass is a close second and It looks like they are doing everything to keep this season alive. Cough cough. They were supposed to face UConn in the opener, now they are spinning it to
"Great now we get another week to prepare for Troy" So dumb.
