Those "rules" seem to be every reason that I wouldn't want to ever attend a "university" that had those rules.

Green says that unbuttoning one's pants could get someone "$150 and/or 15 hours or community service for being in 'any state of undress with a member or the opposite sex.'"

Much like a Nigerian scammer intentionally using bad grammar, cults typically have "weed-out" conditions that get rid of pesky people who tend to ask questions and generally be dangerous to the aims of the cult.

More than that, the fact that he is boozing it up on a yacht and obviously nailing some floozy, it's that he posed for a farking picture.

If I was a big enough scumbag to where I espoused religious virtue and morality and condemned anyone who didn't live up to what I was shoveling so I could collect money from shiatloads of "true believers", there's no farking way I would even allow goddamn cameras on my liquor fark boat.  That's the height of arrogance.  He doesn't really give a fark because of those "true believers" - they're going to forgive him no matter what...so fark LU for being "outraged".

FTA: According to Liberty student Alexandra Green, the photo shows Falwell to be even more of a hypocrite than people realize.

Green does not know just how much of a hypocrite many people believe Jerry Falwell, Jr. to be.

As was discussed in the previous thread, he claimed it was not any kind of alcoholic beverage - just "black water" that he had as a "prop."

Which is freaking weird - the standard fundie denial is to claim it's coke or iced tea and implicitly dare anyone to accuse you of lying. Saying it's a "prop" means you want it to look like booze, which in fundie world is almost as bad as actual booze in terms of harming your "witness."

They do this because your tribe is more important to you than your principals.  Until that changes, why should any of your leaders give a shiat about you?

Gawd Damnit so much... Wasted 4 years on a business degree and quit w/2 classes to go because I don't want to be associated w/the Liberty Cult..... Shopping for a new-non-partisan-non-religious university. They bait you in with low tuition rates, especially for military and first responders.

The fact that he has a yacht should ring alarm bells if you had two brain cells to rub together. Do you really think people buy yachts to be good citizens and spread the gospel in the open waters?

The entire purpose of a yacht is to commit wanton sin and debauchery. They really serve no other purpose.

If I had to guess by looking at the pic.  He's dressed up like Julian, which would make sense since Julian is never without a rum and coke in his hand.  And she's dressed up like Sarah.  She has her hair dyed that color and fixes it in that style.

Good. It's about time they learn that it's all a scam and a con job. Strict moral codes are for the rubes and sheep that actually believe it all. The folks at the top who make the rules have no obligation to follow the rules and if they get caught breaking em they can just put on a big performance with a forgiveness theme and they can get away with almost anything. With any luck many of them will wake up and rethink the nonsense their parents shoved down their throat.

That phrase just rings as odd in this context.

Which is freaking weird - the standard fundie denial is to claim it's coke or iced tea and implicitly dare anyone to accuse you of lying. Saying it's a "prop" means you want it to look like booze, which in fundie world is almost as bad as actual booze in terms of harming your "witness."

The only "prop" there was the subtle bulge below his belly.

Not sure I follow.

You know private Christian schools cost tens of thousands of dollars more per year to attend than public state universities, right?  They could save money, do what they want without worrying about hypocritical god-bothering overlords, and get a degree from an accredited university.

Liberty isn't some community college that normal people go to because that's what they can afford and what's available. It's a $22k/year private university, with total costs of $40k/year. If you're at that school, you are spending a fortune to subject yourself to a crazy fundie college experience. If those students decide that they no longer want to volunteer for abuse, then they can go somewhere else. If mommy and daddy won't pay for them to go somewhere else, there are still other options.

Students aren't always there by choice.

When I was in high school I had a friend who went to a Baptist high school (her parents weren't religious at all but were desperate to avoid the horror of public school). There were plenty of people from her high school who were essentially forced to go to Liberty University by their parents. They were miserable there and came home for the weekend and partied with their high school friends as often as possible.

I'm sure it was a Trailer Park Boys themed party. The video (posted above) reinforces that.

I noticed the Solo cup and other things in the video. They were obviously drinking and I suspect a bit of swinging. Didn't see Jerry's wife. Typically when I have friends over I don't take them to my bedroom and grasp their bare skin at the midriff for photos. But you know what, good for him. He has conned a bunch of people into paying for his lavish and selfish lifestyle and they will likely continue to do so. All you can do is show the rubes the scam, if they want to keep wasting their money that is on them.

Well I guess you're one of those special people who, on the day they turned 18, had enough money for a security deposit and first month's rent despite not being allowed to have a job in high school, a job that paid enough for you to support yourself and pay tuition, and were fine with being completely cut off from your family, including your younger siblings. Because that's the choice they were offered.

Maybe someday you'll understand that when you have two bad options, you're still allowed to be unhappy with the results of the one you chose. Ot that short term pain for long term gain is still painful.

And yeah, you can act like an internet tough guy and say you'd be fine with being cut off from a family that did that to you but it's not that easy for everyone.

I was one of those 'unlucky people' that was told early on that when I turned 18 I would either be packing my bags to move off to college, packing my bags for the Army, or packing my bags to move into an apartment. I had plenty of warning that when high school ended I was leaving. Of course I had my own car (purchased for $4000 - brand new Toyota Tercel EZ) and had what amounted to a full ride through college. I had also worked all through my junior and senior year so I had money. I actually sold off almost all of my comic books to get the car (and a new stereo, CD player, guitar....). It is part of growing up and living in your parents shadow / under your mom's skirt is not how to do it.

I wasn't 'cut off'. My parents actually covered my auto insurance all through college and I stayed in the guest room over Xmas all through college and during the summer between my freshmen/sophomore year. They actually had my old bedroom redecorated long before I came back for Thanksgiving my Freshman year. The most important part of raising kids is preparing them for adulthood. That means the kids know that they are making the decisions and living with the consequences. They helped with little things only and the offered some guidance, but my decisions were on me.

So, your parents partially supported you through college; even allowing you to live at home between semesters counts as a form of support.  You don't say which college you attended, or if your parents put any restrictions on the type you could attend.  The kids in question were given the choice between Liberty University or the street; it sounds like you were given better options.

I heard one fellow tell the story of how his mother had been given a condition that she must attend a college within a certain distance of her hometown.  She got out a map, set a compass to that distance based on the scale, and drew a circle.  The circle passed through Boulder, Colorado.  Just in time for the Sixties.

I know that this is a real thing that parents say, but it's a false choice. If my idiot sister could move halfway across the country at 18 against my parents wishes, then anyone can. She figured out her own education and living situation and she is of pretty ordinary intelligence. I also know plenty of people who were "commanded" by their parents to go to a certain type or of school. Most of them did what they wanted and their parents eventually came around. So go to the school you want. Get financial aid and live in the dorms. Become an RA for some money and free lodging. It might suck to not have your parents' support, but you have way more options than Liberty homelessness. At some point you have to live your own life without being beholden to your parents.

Whole lot of "that was then, this is now."
The cost of a college education has inflated by a bizarre amount since us old fart farkers went.  While they used to make you live in the dorms, a lot of universities now don't want to provide student housing anymore, and either converted the dorms to other purposes or sold that real estate off at tremendous profit.  The two dorm buildings I lived in as an undergrad are no longer dormitories, and as for the dorms I lived in as a graduate student...they were trying to push us out while I was there.
