When Gretchen Whitmer banned motor boats, but not boats you have to paddle, Real America was outraged at her craven hypocrisy, without realizing that it was never about boating.  It was about 500 rednecks getting shiatfaced at Party Cove.

I was told by HR that I have a bias.
I explained there is nothing wrong with being averse to hillbillies, peckerheads, noodlers, cousin farkers, puppy breeders, and denizens of the gathering flocks of jackwads who value jesus over science.
And if they disagreed, they were welcome to fire me.

I drive by this track everyday and they have been shut down since last spring. My stomach dropped out when I saw all the trailers pulled I  last week. Our county was about to be rolled back because cases have been going up. We had a drop in cases on Sunday and that took us of the rollback. Monday had 45 reported, 26 in a town just north of me. We should be seeing another spike starting next week.

Guess they're about to find out. Wish "I told you so!" was more satisfying than it is under these circumstances.

The MO of the Republican party.

If you live in Missouri, you read MO as Mo. and began sobbing uncontrollably, knowing full well that you live in a state steeped in republicanly embarrassing legislators who only remove the finger from the nose after they hear the shutter click.
C'mon Missouri, at least elect Galloway and get rid of Parsons.

We have our own Party Cove to consider.

We know what happens when people crowd together like this, not a mask to be seen.  We can see what will happen when schools open like nothing is going on.  We are doing this with our eyes wide open.

One day, history will try to untangle the mystery why, with six months under our belt gaining understanding of this virus, how it spreads, and the relatively simple steps we need to take to slow it down, we collectively decided to floor it over the cliff and plunge ourselves into the ravine like Thelma and Louise.  It will be an interesting, one of a kind study into human psychology and its self-destructive impulses, not to mention the misery, chaos and degradation that will inevitably follow as a result.

I hope I am around to read it.

Wow, you're right Peoria is immune to COVID-19. That's why it's totally not spreading there.

https://www.covidactnow.org/us/il/county/peoria_county?s=821152

This shows exactly how specifically the last two weeks have been great for Peoria. There is absolutely no reason anyone in Peoria should worry.

I grew up in Peoria until college and I've learned most of Central IL considers Peoria the liberal hellhole of the area funnily enough. This event and its predecessors on the riverfront were always looked upon with disdain by people in the city, even before they gave it the lovely White Trash name.

When people say "downstate IL" I usually think southern IL which feels very rural, but that's a product of moving from Peoria to Champaign which are the two blue centers in the cornfields of red.

And no one believes you because you use years-old pictures to illustrate assertions of things that just happened.

If you take another look at the data, you'll see that-of course-the raw numbers of cook county infections, deaths, etc. are much higher than the rest of the state.  The population of cook county is just over 40% of the entire state.  Peoria county, on the other hand, accounts for 1.4% of the total population of illinois.  The number of cases are TRENDING upwards.  I think, if you actually paid attention to what's going on, you'd find that the urban centers were hit very hard much earlier because of sheer population density - it takes contact to spread the virus, and there is simply more of that in an urban environment.  I think what you WILL find, after enough folks in smaller towns and semi-rural areas act like nothing is wrong, is that the virus will spread there as well.  It will just take longer before those areas are hit hard by virtue of their lower population densities.

Finally, anyone who actually says that the protests can't spread infections is incorrect.  Of course they can.  However, the folks who protested decided that showing the government how upset they were over the police brutalizing and killing citizens was more important in the short term.  This article is about a bunch of people who decided that a PARTY was more important than fighting the spread of a virus.   You can take your false equivalency elsewhere.

Downstate Illinois only accounts for 25% of the state population, but currently accounts for 40% of new cases.

I believe this evolved from the "Dirtbag Disneyland" moniker given to the prior riverfront festival (the actual name of which I can no longer recall!)
