I liked the book a lot, but I don't like this series. Not sure if it's the direction, editing, or the scriptwriting or what but it's teetering on boring. But it doesn't have the bang that it needs to have. Zachary Quinto was a poor choice to play Charlie Manx, they should have picked a new face, an unknown actor. It's like what happened in filming The Shining - Jack Nicholson is a good actor but he was awful in the movie, because he made the character into himself instead of the other way around.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk. Now, please post why I'm all about all of this.

I didn't read the book, but we tried watching the show. The wife and I love vampire shows and think Zachary A is a great actor, but the show bored us.

I DVR'd it and so far I've watched the first 2 episodes of Season 1... no really compelling urge to continue at this point.  I was hoping someone would say it gets better, but so far I haven't heard that.

Yeah, subby is wrong. I watched the first 6 episodes of season 1 really wanting to like the show and waiting for something interesting to happen. Instead all I got was unneeded angst and unbelievable plot twists that made no sense. I finally ended the pain and deleted that scheduled recording from the DVR.

I don't like the series. The lead is repellent at all levels and unrelatable and it all goes downhill from there leading to the fat sack of crap raping everyone. I just can't deal with more garbage.

I loved Captain Janeway doing the audiobook - it was really well done. Have not seen the show.

"One of those locations is Orphenhenge. I've had an idea for a story about that place for a long time.

I've also had an idea for a story about Maggie Leigh that takes place before many of the events in NOS4A2 called The Crooked Alley.

I haven't written either of those, but they've both been in my mind.

There's also a figure named the Walking Backwards Man who's mentioned in both NOS4A2 and Heart-Shaped Box along with a couple short stories [and Episode 3 from this season]. One of these days I'll get around to writing a novel about him, but I'm not ready yet
."

I've been hoping for a book about the Walking Backwards Man for a while since he first showed up. Really hope he writes this one in the near future.

I know...right?

It's like, why even bother changing your last name. Just one look and we know who you are.

He had an easier time keeping his cover back in the late 90's.

He wanted to be a famous writer on his own, but he was afraid people would think he was joeking.

I've yet to watch the series, but from the promos I've seen, Charlie Manx is everything Sylar was initially, and should've remained.  But then he went and played Spock, and they started making Sylar have a conscience after that.

Also, hasn't Jack Nicholson basically played himself in any role, Joker included?

I powered through season two, but man did it have a terrible habit of introducing rules and promptly ignoring them an episode or two later.

Between that, endless red herrings that got dropped with no explanation, and almost every episode having a slow-mo fight set to ironically happy pop-punk music... yeah.

I only read the book and it was a while back. Can I start with season 2 or would I be stupid to do so.

Never saw this show.

You could start with 2 as long as you remember that, it's been 8 years, she had a kid, and Manx starts off in a coma.

It is one of the most beautifully produced stinkers in a long time.
Watching it was infuriating.

I think the author of The Magicians was pretty happy with how the show turned out too.

In the book, Jack Torrance is a complete and utter sack of shiat before he ever gets to the hotel.  He's unemployed because he picked on and humiliated a stuttering student of his for no reason other than him playing sports, then beats the shiat out of the same student (which is totally not all really some stupid high school revenge fantasy by King).  He's also broken his kid's arm and is mentally abusive to his wife.

If Jack had played the character like he is in the book he would have been extremely unlikable.  So then you would have, as your leads, a raging unlikable asshole Jack, an irritating dishrag Shelly Duval, and a weird young Danny.

Without Nicholson's charm, the movie sucks.

I guess if I was getting royalties from a show that may get cancelled I'd do press saying it was good too.

I was part of a focus group that was given the first six episodes of season 1 to watch months before it came out, and everyone in the group was specifically chosen because of their love of sci fi/fantasy/horror.

EVERYONE in the group thought the show was hot garbage. The consensus was that it was like a bad CW teen drama with a sad attempt at adding a horror element.

The main villain spends 70% of his on screen time driving a car. The secondary villain is so abhorrant that it's not fun to watch. (He rapes his mom and then kills her with a nailgun to the head. For no apparent reason.)

The only reason it got picked up for a second season is because they filmed a lot of the second season already, concurrantly with season one, so there wasn't much cost to just finish it and put it ou.

I know The Shining by heart, dear, but thanks for mansplaining it to me.

Anyone could have done a better job than he did.
