Subtonic: RussianPotato: Dems ain't gonna get it done.  They never legalized hemp.  Not in 7 decades.  Trump legalized hemp.

Trump legalized your FACE biatch!

Wouldn't that be a war crime?

I guess Obama just jumped in his time machine and went back to 2014 to prove you wrong.

Combustion: I just hate they can't take cards. Before I go get weed I have to actually find an Automated ATM Teller Machine and get money out like it's the 1990s.

Don't pot-related businesses have in-house ATMs?

Znuh: Pot, is the only thing that helps with COVID.

When I was in the throes of the rigors, edibles was the only thing that enabled me to somewhat sleep.

As the disease moves through you, you're left with levels of tired that are unimaginable. Not being able to lift yourself off the bed to go to the bathroom terrible. It then robs you of any rest whatsoever by giving you the absolute worst insomnia known to man.

Edibles helped. They helped a LOT. So much that I consider them essential to getting yourself through it, god forbid you come down with it.

That sounds absolutely miserable. I got the flu about a decade ago and it was painful and the tiredness was ridiculous; I just slept in the bathroom one afternoon as getting there took all my effort, but sleep happened with the flu. I think I slept like 18 hours a day for a week.

All this Covid is just the flu nonsense is also shiatty because most people equate the flu to a stomach bug or a 2-3 day respiratory virus and not the near debilitating effects of the actual flu that actually kills people. Get a flu shot every year.

Cannabis legalization isn't even mentioned in the Democratic Platform, so you're dreaming.

/Medicare neither

Cornelis de Gyselaer: Jelly Bean Raider: Pats_Cloth_Coat: I expect the liquor industry to lobby furiously against this.

And Big Pharma

Big pharma would just buy the producers, add some analgesic & patent boom $5000.00/ dose

They would have to ban any new independent producers of just plain marijuana, or somehow claim that their patent on the "improved" version excludes others from selling just plain marijuana.  I am sure they are capable of both of these things.

NihilismKat: Now I need to look into this Pluto TV thing. I have too many streaming services...

It's free. I've got an app on my phone and an app thing on my Roku. I hardly ever watch it, because I just never think about it.

But it's not bad for free entertainment.

Nothing's mentioned in the Democratic Party platform.

Convention hasn't happened yet, that's when the platform gets approved.

Next time you think you're going to sound bright... don't.

Pluto.tv is fantastic, it came on the firestick my wife bought online during the Thanksgiving sales last year. Besides Dr. Who, there are game shows, Star Trek TNG, MST3K/RiffTrax and a hundred other "channels" of shows and movies.

It kind of reminds me of having a big satellite dish back in the 80's-90's.

Hell's bells! I've been advocating legalization since the sixties. It was my generation that started the good fight for legalization. There is quite a history in the USA of political activity on this issue.

Kamala Harris throws an entire generation of young black men in jail for drug "crimes" that shouldn't even exist.  She literally laughs at the prospect of keeping an innocent black man in jail.

You:  lol, don't do the crime...

You need a license to grow tobacco. And there is a cap on the number of licenses

Another beauty of it is if I catch a movie halfway through and want to see it from the beginning I can bounce from TV to movies on demand and find it there.

She's probably worried about the effects of the Legal Marijuana Now and the Grassroots-Legalize Cannabis Party candidates, both of whom are running (a friend of mine who's in the MN House of Representatives told me there's no real difference between the parties.)

For background, in 2018:

LNM:
3.7% in MN-Sen-Special
2.55% in MN-Sen
5.28% in MN-Auditor

GLCP:
5.71% in MN-AG (granted this might've been a bit of protest voting against Ellison who had some domestic abuse problems.
2.65% in MN-Gov

And of course several Republicans are hoping to use these parties as a vehicle to keep or take some legislature seats.

Not exactly true.  You can buy tobacco seeds from many different seed catalogs and grow your own, if you want to.

I agree on all points. We better not end up trading Franken for Lewis. I was glad Craig moved him out of Congress, but was hoping he was done trying to hate us to death.

Anenu: Recession is the best time to legalize it, new industry with new jobs and new tax revenue to help pull the economy up. I'm just hoping we have enough rich people on board this time for it to actually happen.

The pot magnates from states that legalized it *are* the rich now. Hell, even former speaker drunky John Boner is in on the pot sales and has become a major pot advocate. Here's hoping there's enough political clout now. The Democrats as a whole (and a surprising amount of Republicans) actually back legalization. McConnell is holding it up. Convince him it'll help his re-election and he's in

We don't have legal pot delivery in MA (with some exceptions for medical patients), but if I ever won the lottery, I would absolutely open the first Pot Bar, where everybody forgets your name

Don't worry, mine is too.

I had just woken up when I wrote my original post, should have elaborated more. The pilot program was 2014, the full legalization was part of the 2018 Farm Bill. And RussianPotato was right, McConnell was instrumental to the whole thing and it never would have happened without him. So there's at least one redeemable thing about him.

I've been smoking hemp every day for almost two years. Shiat's fantastic. Knocked 5.5 years of panic attacks and crippling anxiety completely out of my life within a few minutes of the first hit and it never came back.

Urmuf Hamer: Tragic in the damage to human life by "law enforcement" and incarceration to wit, affecting us all.

Affecting us all?  Really?  Would you mind telling us how many people are in prison in the US after being convicted of weed offenses?

Urmuf Hamer: , social and tax consequences of lucrative black markets which corruptly subvert society,

Do you have any evidence that legalizing will cause those black markets to contract?  Because I haven't seen any so far.

Urmuf Hamer: Regulation, taxation, education and infrastructure and empowered, intelligent, and moderated oversight create healthy society/government.

In which legal state has this happened?

Purple_Urkle: Okay but some children need it for anti seizure medication.

Please don't criminalize that.

Perfectly legal.  At the federal level.  Because it got FDA approval.  The drug is called Sativex.

What if people like Charlotte's Web?

A family member uses CBD for seizures. It doesn't prevent the seizures, but it reduces the recovery time from several days down to several hours. It has enabled her to go back to college.
I can think of about 100 things that are bigger problems than recreational use of cannabis. Just legalize it and move on to important issues. Expunge criminal records for minor possession.

Seems to be legal to trade in, according to the FDA, under some circumstances.

https://www.fda.gov/news-events/public-health-focus/fda-regulation-cannabis-and-cannabis-derived-products-including-cannabidiol-cbd

"8.Is it legal for me to sell CBD products?

A. It depends, among other things, on the intended use of the product and how it is labeled and marketed."

As a practical matter, CBD is available at retail pretty much everywhere around here (mid-Atlantic states).

I'm told that CBD and Charlotte's Webb are not the same thing.  THC is the compound that gets people high, CBD is the compound that can be obtained even in places that have not legalized medical marijuana, but they are not the only substances involved.
