It's only a mystery because nobody has forced him to turn over the same records that any other "businessman" would be required to provide for even the most basic due diligence.

That's why of all the theories regarding Two Scoops, the one that claims his only actual utility is to serve as a useful idiot and conduit for those with actual power and wealth. Like the distant cousin of a genuine self-made billionaire who has been clinically diagnosed with the cognitive skills of a small child and would otherwise be institutionalized, yet for some reason lives in a palatial mansion with a tolerant staff, is listed as the legal owner of dozens of properties, is a principal in hundreds of domestic and offshore corporations, is the beneficiary of dozens of trusts, and so on, all while the billionaire is homeless and couldn't afford to buy a pack of gum-at least, on paper.

Early promotional materials for Aberdeenshire carried what purported to be the Trump clan's baronial crest-three lions under an armored fist brandishing a spear and surrounded by a flourish of red and white feathers.
It was, no surprise, a fake. Trump had cribbed the coat of arms from Joseph Edward Davies, whose wife had built Mar-a-Lago and who had legitimately been granted the crest in the 1930s. He had made only one minor change, erasing the Davies family motto of "integritas" (integrity) and replacing it with "Trump." He had used the doctored crest for years to peddle all sorts of products-from ties to beach towels-and it was plastered across his US properties.

But that didn't fly in Scotland.

For centuries the country has had an office devoted to making sure people do not claim someone else's family name. And after it determined Trump was indeed displaying a stolen coat of arms, he was barred from using it.

LOL, he tried to use another family's crest as his own?    And of course he removed the word "Integrity"

As for where the money came from, it was his good friend, Chet Americanman, silent partner

I read another piece at some point that also said that Trump has moved millions upon millions of dollars from the US to the books of the Scottish properties without doing any improvements or renovations so there was the question of where was that money going.  If I remember correctly, the author talked about using the same laws discussed in this article to get at Trump's financial records to determine the source and recipient of the funds.

IRS Code section 6103(f) All Biden has to do is appoint someone to head the IRS who is willing to comply with congressional requests.

The House requests all tax returns from age 18 on, and bam.  signed, sealed and delivered within the day.

Martyn McLaughlin, a Glasgow-based reporter for the Scotsman newspaper, discovered that in 2008 Trump approached a Scottish bank asking for a $63 million loan to buy and renovate a historic hotel in Edinburgh overlooking the final hole of St. Andrews, the most famous golf course in the world.

That must be a really, really tall hotel, seeing as St. Andrews is about 50 miles from Edinburgh as the crow flies.

Which is hilarious, since it was his mother who was from Scotland. Pretty amazing that her family's crest just happened to have her future husband's name on it.

My takeaway from that piece is that real estate is stupid cheap in Scotland. You can't get a 5000 square foot empty lot in my neighborhood for the entry-level price in the proposed Aberdeenshire development, and there are plenty of places around here more expensive than their top-of-the-line "mansion." And we certainly don't have a view of the North Sea.

By the way, does anyone else remember an old movie called Local Hero? The scenery from that flick was in my head the whole time I was reading that article.

"Who pays hundreds of thousands of pounds for a family villa in the northeast of Scotland that's got the corrosive brand of Trump attached to it?"

Reilly agrees. "Buying a place there would be like flying to Italy to go to an Olive Garden," he says. "It's insane. Who would do that?"

This is just a great line.

BTW, part of the answer is in the article:
According to Trump, after purchasing Turnberry in 2014 for $60 million from a holding company owned by the government of Dubai, he dished out as much as $200 million rehabbing the venerable property.

Dubai being in the UAE who also funds Erik Prince's new private army (since he cashed out of Blackwater).  UAE and Prince have strong ties with China, but also with Saudi Arabia (especially in war in Yemen), and Russia.... and France and the U.S.

Basically its hard to know who else might be "investing" in the fund that gave Donny all that money.

lolmao500: Putin is funding brexit, scottish exit, california exit, boris, trump and probably macron.

Here's what I don't get: Putin seems to be a pretty smart guy, but also seems to think NATO is still the enemy.  He ignores the sleeping dragon to the east at his peril.

China's "one child" policy has resulted in about 80M more men of marrying age than females of the same age.  Give each of those men an AK-47, four 30-round mags, and tell them that they can have any woman they capture.  There's no way Russia could stop an invasion of 80M horny Chinese.

I'm absolutely convinced China will attack Mongolia and Russia in my lifetime.  It's LEBENSRAUM, Part 2.
