propasaurus: Also, Biden has been running a great campaign

The ads he's been running have been really good and make me excited to vote for him.

Kuta: PainInTheASP: If the debates aren't held, it will be because the RNC and Team Trump have finally talked some sense into the orange shiatgibbon.  They didn't even want to televise the coronation convention. They know what Biden will do to him and they still have downballot races that they have a chance (small) of winning.  They don't want anything to rock the boat, let alone repeatedly ram it into a goddamn iceberg.

There won't be a debates, but it will be framed by the administration as the leftist Chinavirus being deliberately planted in the dressing room shiaaer by immigrant Antifa or some such.

I don't think either the Dems or Reps want a debate. Neither candidate is at their peak.  Both have serious cognitive deficiencies.  Both are well into their 70s.  They don't want the resulting shiatshow to jeopardize their duopoly on power.

By comparison, doddering Ronald Reagan was a youthful 69 when inaugurated.

Bow down before the one you serve.
You're gonna get what you deserve.

We may be at a time when an F-bomb, in that context, could be dropped and considered appropriate and about farking time.

Why should he have to prove he's qualified for the job of the most powerful position in the world?  Amirite?

If we don't get at least one debate where two senile, angry old men yell at each other about who can do more push-ups we are getting ripped off.

2020-08-04 12:56:06 PM

Devolving_Spud: Is there a reason to debate?  Trump doesn't debate, he just spouts talking points, lies, and assorted word salad.  Look at the recent Swan interview, where he can barely be kept on topic.  It's not worth debating him.

Biden should do what he does; keep speaking publicly to the issues at hand, and stressing solutions instead of rhetoric.

If Biden doesn't debate that's a quick road to him losing.

Rick Scott barely beat that senile old astronaut in Florida's senate race.  And that only happened because of the vicious attack ads against the senile old astronaut, who really needed to be put out to pasture.  A refusal to debate means Biden is going to be viewed as weak (the worst), old, senile, and scared.  That's not a good look for a presidential candidate.

2020-08-04 12:57:04 PM
Trumps idea of a debate is to walk around on stage like a deranged chicken saying "wrong " to every word that is said about him ..

2020-08-04 12:57:09 PM
There is no such things as "debates" any more.  They've devolved into spectacle.

Folks need to wipe that academic idea of Lincoln/ Douglas out of their minds and think back to just four years ago where a person light years more intelligent, experienced and presidential than Trump was accorded at best a draw with that orange mouth-breathing neanderthal by our "liberal" networks.

Yes, in a neutral setting under solid debate rules Biden would wipe the floor with Trump.  The kind of debates the League of Women Voters used to present before the parties took over. That's not realistically what we have. It's spectacle and personality and balance.  It's who blustered more.

Forget the debates. Biden has little to gain and Trump as needs to shake up the race so he shouldn't be afforded any opportunity to do so.

2020-08-04 12:57:32 PM
Have the questions typed on a pieces of paper and make the candidates read them out loud.

2020-08-04 12:59:16 PM
It won't be a debate. It will be Trump blustering and interrupting and "wrong"ing when Biden is speaking. And if Biden tries to interrupt him, Trump will become indignant and....whatever.

Biden will beat Trump into the ground at a debate. But Trump will win a televised game of "Who's the Bigger Asshole?"

2020-08-04 12:59:32 PM
Debating Trump is like playing chess against a pigeon - except in this case, the pigeons in the audience will also claim the pigeon won, then crap all over Facebook and Twitter, and Pigeon News will go on endlessly about how the pigeon won and the Non-pigeon Fake news is just anti-pigeon, then crap all over themselves.  Meanwhile the head pigeon will go off on a tirade about the anti-pigeon moderators who fed answers to the non-pigeons, all while trying to eat the food out of your hands, then shout LUNCH ORDER on Twitter.

2020-08-04 1:00:06 PM

Ambivalence: Oh sure, it's Biden who wants to skip the debates. Biden, the master debater who wiped the floor with Sarah Palin and Paul Ryan.

=================================================================

While that's true...  You know as well as I do that Trump won't even be able to complete a full sentence, everything will be a lie, and nothing he says will even make sense... but Biden will commit one accidental gaffe and every single headline will be 'JOE BIDEN GETS DESTROYED IN THE DEBATES' and 'JOE BIDEN'S MEMORY IS VANISHING.  IS HE FIT FOR THE PRESIDENCY?!'

You know it.  I know it.

It's just not worth it.

My prediction:

There will be one debate. Trump's ego has him convinced that he will mop the floor with Biden and none of his handlers will be able to talk him out of it. It will be a disaster for him, mainly because Biden will be prepared for his debate shenanigans, and instead of just rolling his eyes with a "can you believe this guy?" expression that worked soooo well for Hillary during the 2016 debates (sarcasm), he will go on the offense against Trump. This will have Trump raving his usual gibberish and he will completely crater.

Afterwards, Trump will start ranting about the "unfair, biased moderator" and claim the whole debate was "rigged". This will be his excuse to skip over further debates.

This reminds me of the time Bill Nye was slated to debate Ken Ham. Many in the scientific circles advised against it because it wouldn't serve a useful purpose. Still happened and Bill was great. However, I think if you took Ken Ham, removed about 40 IQ points and painted him orange, that would be about what to expect with a debate with Trump.

Disrn

Disrn - Right Bias - Conservative - Republican - Somewhat CredibleFactual Reporting: Mixed - Not always Credible or Reliable
RIGHT BIAS

These media sources are moderately to strongly biased toward conservative causes through story selection and/or political affiliation. They may utilize strong loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes), publish misleading reports and omit reporting of information that may damage conservative causes. Some sources in this category may be untrustworthy. See all Right Bias sources.

Overall, we rate Disrn Right Biased based on story selection and editorial positions that favors the Christian right. We also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to the occasional use of poor sources, questionable views on science and a failed fact check.

Detailed Report

Factual Reporting: MIXED
Country: USA
World Press Freedom Rank: USA 48/180

History

Founded in 2019 by Babylon Bee founder Adam Ford, and the satire site's current owner, Seth Dillon, Disrn is a news and opinion website/app that summarizes news from a conservative leaning perspective. The website somewhat lacks transparency as they do not provide an about page or clearly disclose who is involved with the website. However, in an interview with the Daily Caller, Adam Ford states "Our news articles will be objective, but we will report on things that Christians and conservatives care about," Ford told the DC. "The opinion pieces, newsletters, and coming podcasts will be, of course, from a Christian and conservative perspective." Finally, Disrn's tagline is "brief, smart, faithful."

Funded by / Ownership

The website does not clearly state who owns Disrn, however at the bottom of each page there is a 2020 copyright listing to Disrn LLC. According to their welcome page, Adam Ford and Seth Dillon are the owners of Disrn LLC. Revenue is generated through advertising and subscription fees.

Analysis / Bias

In review, Disrn does not produce original news stories, but rather summarizes news in less than 300 words. The website also offers a newsletter written by Adam Ford and a second for the website as a whole. Disrn is available as an app on both IOS and Android.

Story selection ranges from low biased straightforward news reporting such as this Virginia, Maryland governors issue stay-at-home orders to more sensationalized right leaning headlines such as this Lindsey Graham slams Pelosi's "shameful, disgusting" remarks about Trump. Stories are properly sourced to credible media outlets such as The Hill, Whitehouse.gov, Worldometers and the Washington Post.

However, they sometimes use sources that have poor track records with fact checkers such as Breitbart and the Daily Caller. For example, On March 12th, 2020 Disrn ran a story sourced to the Daily Caller with the headline: Pelosi sought to include federal funding for abortions as part of coronavirus bill: White House officials. This claim was rated false by Politifact.

Editorially, Disrn aligns with Pro-Life advocates and holds pro-Christian perspectives such as this: Opinion: The delusion of godlessness and the limits of hope.

Further, many opinion pieces denigrate the left such as this: Opinion: We need to accept that Joe Biden is not mentally sound.

When it comes to science many opinion pieces do not align with the consensus regarding human influenced climate change.

A quote from an Op-Ed reads "Given that they view me with such utter contempt, I understand that it's highly unlikely that those belonging to this religion of Warmerism will express any interest at all in my advice to them on this topic."

Finally, many opinion pieces also promote biblical literalism on positions such as the resurrection and views on evolution. In general, Disrn is mostly factual in their news summaries, but has failed a fact check, while editorially aligning with the conservative Christian right.

TL;DR f*ck right off.

This talking point has been slowly coming up more in the last few weeks, and I'm pretty sure the ultimate source is GOP projection, trying to make the lack of debates Biden's arrogance and hubris rather than Trump hiding his obvious mental decline (or even just having to defend his own policies to neutral interviewers). The axios interview is proof enough that while a debate may not help Biden, it would hurt Trump, so force him to be the one that cancels in fear.

We've had televised debates for 60 years. They must continue because it's the only way a large part of the electorate makes their decisions.

Not holding them is a terrible move. If there are no debates, the incumbent will slam the contender for being a chickenshiat.

It's what the political consultant class would say is the right thing to do because it mostly works.

Of course, what they're really saying, and what too many Farkers don't seem to see, is that they don't want you to see the candidates flaws this time around because they are so glaring.

Trump is no ordinary incumbent. He will make news REGARDLESS of air time. There are millions of non-Dems and non-Reps who only vote in the general election. They HATE Washington DC and will turn out against Biden unless Biden can make a compelling case for change. (Spoilers:  He can't because he isn't.)

Biden is going to appear at the debates, if the Trump people agree to it.  There's no plan by Biden to refuse to debate.  But, go ahead and spread the idea that Biden is afraid, and in cognitive decline, so when he does show up, and shows he is still able to debate, all the mushheads can be properly impressed.  People who only pay attention to politics 2 weeks before the election will probably determine the election, again, so we might as well play into that by using the expectations game.
