But Israel is plunging ahead. Only one option has been ruled out: closing the schools.
"This is a long-term pandemic," said Dr. Nadav Davidovitch, a pandemic policy adviser to the government. "We cannot close schools for a year."

And that's exactly what the United States is going to do.  Thank you for your sacrifice, parents, teachers, and students.  Thoughts and prayers.  We celebrate your gift that allows our great train to continue unimpeded.

We must all of us on this train of life remain in our allotted station. Know your place. Keep your place. Be a shoe.

In a few months (or less), a good chunk of people in our school district are going to take the one kid-less school board member who did everything in his power to make sure everything opens as close to normal as possible (shortened delay time...killed budget for laptops...etc.), and force feed him bug gelatin.

Murder is the Boobies-Garden) prohibition in the farking Bible, and Jewish tradition holds that protecting/preserving life is enough to disregard all but three of the 613 Rules (murder, sex crime, erasure of Jewish identity/"idolatry").

// one common example would be driving someone to the hospital on the Sabbath (I once took my Orthodox dad, at his request, to a pre-surgical consult with an eye doctor on a Saturday morning; because you don't want to fark around with eye injuries)
// another classic (as I learned it in seminary) is that putting a Band-Aid on a cut on Shabbat is a violation of the rule against "finishing a product" (since the Band-Aid never exists in "Band-Aid" form, i.e. as a single unit without the plastic coverings, until you're about to put it on) - except it's not, because even the small chance of infection means that "protecting/preserving life" takes precedence
// also why that New Testament story is crap - "healing on the Sabbath" isn't prohibited in the first place

Let's see how Israel is doing fighting the Crown of the Beast 666. Using the cases per million metric.

Oy, vey!

168 cases per million compared to 180.8 for the USA. (Worldometers) Could they being doing any worse? Yes, possibly. According to some metrics but this is an important one as it takes populations into account.

Well, they were doing better than Kuwait, Oman or Qatar for a while there, at any rate. Well, some rates.

Things could be worse. They could be in South America. Bibi has gone Boom-Boom. I wonder if he was distracted from his duties by the grift, graft and corruption. How's his son doing?

Was that an intentional typo?

To anyone going into a school environment: Don't use cloth or improvised masks.  The personal protection is too low and unreliable. In-person school is going to be an inherently dangerous environment and you need a mask with reliable and proven filtering ability.  Surgical and KN95 masks are commonly available and are the minimum mask you should consider.  Don't select a mask for comfort reasons if it doesn't provide an adequate level of safety.

I don't know why people consider closing schools for a year being an impossible thing.
it might take a decade to get things back onto the schedule it was at before but it'd be a lot handier to repurpose that money to keeping kids healthy and safe rather than jamming them into unsafe conditions. well conditions that might be ok for the kids but unsafe for their guardians once the kids become vectors.

my eldest sister is a English teacher on the Poughkeepsie NY zip code area. the school district made damn sure every kid has a laptop. they made sure the kids had internet. the 3 kids that didn't have internet, the school was going to pay for internet but red tape bullshiat blah blah blah so they got wifi at the school so the kids can sit in the schoolyard / mom's car and do their school work. they got everything they need.

so how did it go a few weeks back when the kids had to attend school online? my sister had 97 students. 7 of them participated. 7 out of 97 went online and went to school. somehow the other 90 that play WoW and fifty other games on a daily basis couldn't figure out how to log in online. 90 kids parents did nothing to make sure their children were participating, were doing their homework, were going to school.

this is your America. it's obvious to see there are going to be a lot of crocodile tears for dead babies in a few weeks. because their parents care more about hitting a pipe and slinging it on a street corner than they do about raising their own into good members of the community. watch and see.

So, you're saying send them to school, so that they can get sick and die, or bring it home, like the 17 yr old who is now an orphan, having lost both parents within days to C-19 (big story over the weekend)?

Have I got that right, incel?

2020-08-04 3:39:56 PM
When our kid was first diagnosed (very late) with Cystic Fibrosis, we were all in a bit of a daze. Getting such a dire diagnosis will knock you for a loop.

However, we weren't so stunned that we didn't immediately say NO loud and clear when told about CF summer camps. We were told that they were a good way for kids with the disease to meet other kids with it and it could help mental health facing a terminal diagnosis. Of course, the risks were high. She could become infected with a bug that was antibiotic resistant because all the other kids had been on antibiotics for their whole lives and were colonized with resistant bugs.

But our kid, having been diagnosed so late, was not colonized with that kind of bacteria and thus had a greater chance of living closer to a normal lifespan.

The idea of her being spared quarterly "tune-ups" (going into the hospital to be put on IV antibiotics to knock back some of the worst of the chronic infections), and, of course, dying, made our choice a complete no brainer.

Of course we would never, ever let her go to the CF camp no matter how much better it might have been mental health-wise to know she wasn't alone in fighting this disease, because her physical health was much more important.

She's 37 now and on the new CF drug that actually works, married for 16 years, and a happy doggo mommy. I think we made the right choice.

the same people who would have to look after them when they're quarantined for covid.

The plan here is that when any kid shows any sign of covid (which are numerous) even if it's very very minor, they're quarantined until they get a covid test that comes out clear. if it comes up as they have covid everybody they've been in contact with gets 14 days of isolation, and covid tests.

it amounts to a giant burden on the parents either way, but it's easier to manage if you know it's coming rather than playing covid roulette every day.

hell kids get the sniffles like crazy every fall too, who has like 14 days of sick leave on tap for each time your kid gets the sniffles and needs to get cleared again? They'd need huge supplies of effective those 30 minute tests to make it remotely doable like that and there's no way anybody is throwing that kind of money to this problem until shiat's been closed again.

there's no perfect options but there's one that's far more humane that also provides some amount of the stability businesses need to run.

Incel? Golly, that's a bit of a logical leap, isn't it?

Leaving your strange fascinations and anecdata aside, the question stands. Somebody has to look after these children. Who?
