Major corporations that have survived to this day did business with the Nazis both before and during World War II.

Furthermore, many business leaders at the time were sympathetic to Nazi ideology and even collaborated with the Nazi government for ideological reasons. Other businesses simply saw a chance to make a profit, ideology aside.

While some of these companies were German corporations that were controlled or created by the Nazis, many were foreign companies that went out of their way to work with the Nazis.

Either way, these companies both contributed to and benefitted from the immeasurable human suffering caused by the Nazis. And, in the end, though they'd worked against the interests of their home country, they suffered little to no consequences.

F*ck Microsoft. And F*ck Trump for going fascist*
I'll also ask: Tik Tok spies on its users and reports back to it's parent company and then China. Who is to say that Microsoft won't do this AND sell their data to the US Government? How is Microsoft any more 'patriotic' than the owner of Tik Tok?

* a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

On the bright side, I'm pretty sure it will go as well as Microsoft's forays into MP3 players, phones, and tablets and be dead within 5 years.

OK - first of all, we knew he was a fascist when he was running.  The f*cking Republicans elected him because of it.  They loved him for it and still do.  So.... when, exactly, do you think he "went" there?

Second, OF COURSE Micro$oft will make money selling your information.  That's their entire f*cking business model.  They already cooperate with government.  They are no more patriotic, moral or even ethical than any Chinese company.  We know.  The only "good" - and that's highly debatable - thing that will come of MS buying Tik Tok is that it won't be shut down in the US.  But your information will now be going to a fascist domestic administration rather than a communist foreign one.  The built-ins from their software will be put to use by MS, mos' def'.

You've been giving companies your life for years, you're just now realizing it is all.  Do you have a cell phone?  Do you use the Internet?  Do you make phone calls?  Do you use email?  We've known for years that the NSA tracks all kinds of things on all those platforms, in searchable form.  Outrage now is a little late.

I really don't see how a bunch of kids and teenagers and some early 20-somethings with nothing better to do making short videos on top of sound clips can pose a security threat.

why would hope that people with important security clearance for not making tik Tok videos with unsecured documents in frame. Or just not making tik Tok videos in general because they're actual adults.

Not unless the buyer is paying 25% less than they think it is worth in the first place and the seller really should have increased the price. More likely it just torpedoes the deal outright.

It also simply isn't going to happen. There is just no mechanism for the government to demand a vig on a sale like this. I doubt there would even be any taxes payable in the US from the sale.

However, a significant contribution to Trump's campaign from MS wouldn't be surprise.

Yes it would. It would result in resignations of high level engineers.  Engineers that could have new jobs the next week that they can't afford to lose.

There are two of us on my team that are the only people in the entire company that know how a five billion a year product works.  We'd be gone within a month if they did.  Then the other guys spouse, who is a manager with ten reports, would be gone too.  And we wouldn't be the only ones.
