My parents liked Tom Jones, and they had an album of his hits, which included "Delilah."

A couple years ago I heard a bit of "Delilah" on the background music at Safeway, of all places, and I got curious about the lyrics, so I looked them up.

I was a little disturbed that "Delilah" was not only about a guy who killed his lover for cheating on him, but also seems to be about a stalker Delilah doesn't even know who killed her for spending the night with a guy who isn't Tom Jones.

I saw the light on the night that I passed by her window
I saw the flickering shadows of love on her blind
She was my woman
As she deceived me I watched and went out of my mind

My, my, my Delilah
Why, why, why, Delilah?
I could see, that girl was no good for me
But I was lost like a slave that no man could free

At break of day when that man drove away I was waiting
I crossed the street to her house and she opened the door
She stood there laughing
I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more

My, my, my Delilah
Why, why, why, Delilah?
So before they come to break down the door
Forgive me, Delilah, I just couldn't take any more

She stood there laughing
I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more

My, my, my Delilah
Why, why, why, Delilah?
So before they come to break down the door
Forgive me, Delilah, I just couldn't take any more
Forgive me, Delilah, I just couldn't take any more

That should have been awesome, but that just wasn't enough song for that kind of performance.

Yes, I knew Tom Jones had a variety show. Yes, I knew Joplin was on it. And yes, that's just one of any number of amazing duets he did on the show. My favorite is still the one with Joe Cocker:

Now, did you know that Tom Jones twice had a variety show? The second one was in the early 1990s and was called "The Right Time". Here's Tom with EMF blowing away Unbelievable.

But they were circa 1968 panties so he also could have opened a tent store.

Janis Joplin is someone that had all the soul and depth without the voice to counter it.  A female Bob Dylan if you will.

I heard Muddy Waters being interviewed on a 1970's Bay Area radio station.

When asked who he liked of the currently popular musicians, he said "The Righteous Brothers - they've got a soul sound,"  or something to that effect.

Quite sure Muddy was aware that they were white.
