Maybe Americans today need to do what we did when we were bored in the 1990s...

I'm still gonna. It's socially acceptable to hide most of your face now?

As an introvert I love the face mask thing. I'm never giving it up.

In the midst of the pandemic, Americans are having to learn how to deal with dullness - something they have been little accustomed to in recent decades.

Most people have always been dull, they just think they aren't

Was it something like a drone shot from above so you can get an accurate idea of how close everyone was from each other, or was it a photo from ground level with a telephoto lens that foreshortens everything and makes people appear to be packed together when in fact they aren't?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perspective_distortion_(photography)

Although perspective distortion is often annoying when unintended, it is also intentionally used for artistic purposes. Extension (wide angle) distortion is often implemented to emphasize some element of the scene by making it appear larger and spatially removed from the other elements. Compression (telephoto) distortion is often used to give the appearance of compressed distance between distant objects, such as buildings or automobiles in order to convey a feeling of congestion.

Pick up a hobby to obsess over.

I started to fish again.  Making my own flies and lures so even when the weather isn't cooperative or it's nighttime I have something to focus on.

Lots of fun hobbies that can get you outside to choose from.  The paddleboard dealer near me has sold out and the lake is packed full of people doing something new.

Painting, modeling. Or that home Reno you didn't want to get into because you think you don't have the skill.  Well now is the time.  And you have lots of time for redos if it goes wrong. Start small and have fun.  Don't rush.

leeksfromchichis: Quarantine fatigue is real.

It is.  I've been furloughed since late March, and I've only seen people socially in person three times since then. For most of it it wasn't too bad; I'm kind of an introvert and was able to fill my day up with a bunch of hobbies and projects I usually don't have time for. But that is getting old.  I didn't think I'd ever miss people, but four months in solitary is finally driving me a little batty.

You will never be bored if you learn music.  Thanks to being incentivized not to work I  purchased two instruments I have wanted for years.  With my piano, I can now annoy my neighbors in three different flavors!

However, I made the mistake of playing through the Ballad of Gilligan's Island in the piano book, and the song won't dislodge from my brain cage.  I may in fact go mad.  Send help.

Extroverts are so insecure. It's like they cease to exist if they are alone for more than fifteen minutes. People who would rather sit and read a book are far more interesting.

Spend a couple hours with a group of idiots will cure that for you for another 4 months.

Yeah, people not being able to do the things they loved doing, and basically having to completely redo their daily routines is as easy as "just think of something else to do". No feeling unmotivated to do a replacement thing rather than the thing they actually wanted to do would ever crop up.

Yeah, because there is no middle of the scale where you've got introverts who like to hang out with friends and who will start missing those activities. It is either "leave me alone in a bare room and I'll use my autistic ability to visualise my fantasies to pass the time and I'll see (well, not literally because I'm so autistic I'll flee back inside when I see people) you next month when I come out to restock my food supply" and "if I don't spend every single second with people I will literally, not figuratively, die".
