Isn't that a subsection in Youpr0n's "Nerds" category?

Kirk and Spock high-fivin', shooting ropes.

Big Brother will begin its 22nd season on CBS at 9 p.m. Wednesday. It's an all-star season (the first for the show since 2006), with contestants revealed during a live premiere. Contestants were quarantined before filming began and will be tested for COVID-19 weekly when during production. They'll be living in a bubble

Finally.  Seal the damn bubble and let's watch the oxygen run out.  We'll finally be able to say that Big Brother did something worthwhile for American culture

I want to shiat all over Lower Decks like the next nerd, but Discovery and Picard are both pretty damned good shows.  I'll reserve my judgement of this animated dumpster fire until I actually watch it.

Okay, I both do and do not want to know what the "Jeffrey Epstein" tag is about.

// I also am not going to watch this.  Random Rick&Morty people taking new jobs and trying to ape the visual and comedy style without the actual guy who made that show actually funny in defiance of all logic is basically its own genre right now, and none of it is good.  Like, I appreciate that the original is a dead show and they need to feed their families, so respect for the hustle and all, but... blech.

Agreed. My only point is that you could make sci fi without branding it "Star Trek" (well I guess CBS can't)

I'm wondering how they are going to try to keep it "canon" while doing comedy.

Too bad Discovery and Picard weren't star trek shows.  They captured none of the essence that is Star Trek. This show just takes it one step further.

Might as well bag and tag star trek and proclaim the time of death as May 13, 2005.

And yet, one can interpret that the movies 'Nemesis', 'Insurrection', 'Final Frontier', many episodes of 'TOS', most of the first 2 seasons of 'TNG', huge parts of 'Voyager', most of 'Enterprise', and even parts of 'DS9' did more damage to the "essence" of Star Trek than 'Discovery' and 'Picard' supposedly did.

Hell, I'd watch something called Star Trek that wasn't, if it were good. But both those were really bad, unfortunately.

They need to ditch the "prestige TV" format and go episodic. Not because "it's more Trek-like" but because they don't seem to have the writing talent to support the current format (or budget, in the case of Picard at least). Hopefully that's what'll happen to both and their first 1 or 2 seasons will have just been the longest, shiattiest pilot episodes in TV history.

Find the "Short Trek" with H. Jon Benjamin as a tribble researcher for an attempt at "canon comedy".  Stick around for the commercial at the end.

Right, because the bigotry between biological lifeforms and androids in Picard isn't the kind of thing that Star Trek tries to address at all.  Using aliens and androids as analogs for different groups of humans in an effort to address very real human problems just isn't their thing. People on both sides of a conflict trying to bring complete genocide to the other while Picard and his crew risk their lives to stop it doesn't sound like Star Trek at all.

You sound like my Dad biatching that TNG wasn't "real Star Trek" back in 1986.

DS9 was the best of the lot when it comes to developing the characters and the cultures of the various alien races.

Plus, you got to see a single episode where Jeffery Combs played both Weyoun and Brunt.

It doesn't get better than DS9 as far Trek went. It dealt with challenges to the Federation's utopic aspirations while simultaneously respecting them.

Only one 'like' is possible on Fark, and that is a shame. Very good point.  I'll re-iterate what I posted in another location when prompted what I liked about 'Picard':

_begin_
The analysis of the real man behind myth. The affect that failure and regret can have on even the best of us. The desire to make change, even on a small scale, in hopes to balance out past failures. The study of character (Picard, Rios, Seven). Showing that even the best among us can be humbled. The drive to change, and the understanding of one's current condition. An emotional center (see above regret, but add familial love in the case of the Trois and their children) over flashy lights and laser beams.

Showing the future of Starfleet was not the point of show for me. We can infer and speculate what happened there, but ultimately it's not really important.

Many people have said that ST is at its best when it analyzes character, and ST:Picard does exactly that. The criticisms of the first few episodes is that it is slow and plodding. That was done intentionally and done well in my opinion. It was to show how slow and plodding Picard's life has become. Injecting life into it (first Dahj then Soji and the crew) was almost like an adrenaline shot.

While the concept of Picard being reborn in this fire was a bit heavy-handed, I still think it was done in the best way it could have been. The old Picard that was full of pain and regret had to die, in order for the new one to emerge.
_end_
