First off, it is incredibly awesome that an 8 y/o is gardening.  And so well.

Secondly, it will take a really tall Bloody Mary for that okra.***

***Pickled okra is the bomb, especially in Bloody Marys.  You'll never go back to celery or asparagus.

A pod that big would be woody and inedible.
But nice grow nevertheless

Meh...I've seen longer. I HATED dealing with farken Okra in Dad's Garden. It's hot and the dang stuff is all prickley and it's all slimy. I mean normally I don't mind a little slimy prick but fark Okra.
The only good Okra is stuff that's pre breaded in the bag in the freezer section.

I love okra. It's my favorite vegatable and I really love the way the plants look.

But that thing is tough, woody, and stringy at that size. The vast majority of okra varietals must be picked fairly young and small.

Unpopular opinion: raw okra is better than cooked.

Okay...I do like it pickled in a bloody mary. I mean it's a pickle at that point.

""But there's one teensy eeensy problem. There's this animal that takes stuff from the compost like banana peels and it digs up holes in our yard," explains Shiva."

Hmmm...I wonder how far they are from a bayou.

Since this is in Houston, I assume it's going to explode.

Mmmm, Okra. I likes it fried, boiled, pickled and in gumbo. It can be slimy when boiled, but when done right is delicious. Now I want pickled okra. Wickles makes the best pickled okra.

In third grade we moved to Birmingham, Alabama. I had never seen okra before, and at lunch sat down and was trying to figure out what the weird fried nuggets were, and a kid sat down next to me and said, "All right! Fried okra!" and chowed away, knowing what it was, and loved it. Some time later they served gumbo, which I also had never had, but I recognized the okra in it. Looking back, if school cafeteria gumbo is that delicious, gumbo must get really tasty.

I've tried pickled okra, but not in a bloody mary. When I bartended, I almost picked some up for my shift, or just to try in my own.
