YOU don't get to dismiss me out of hand as unreasonable if someone on your side is willing to agree with me on my terms and make them even worse.

You're more upset by my metaphor than by someone saying we need to support TLP even if they get someone worse than Trump elected later. I said people were willing to get into a van with a child molester, and while someone WAS, I still shouldn't SAY that...

qorkfiend: Ok, cool. Next time, say what you mean instead of something that means something else.

Next time look shiat up before you make an assumption and you won't look as silly.

I didn't make any assumptions. I pointed out what your words meant. Your inability to say what you mean isn't my problem.

Now you're okay with Democrats giving them money and declaring their love for them as long as certain conditions are met. Maybe giving Republicans your money will move the Overton Window left! Maybe we should do that! Maybe we can just give them our money for a little while!

Multiple posters in this thread have tried to point out to you that you are missing the point. It doesn't matter whether their motives are exactly the same as ours; it doesn't matter if they're taking contributions to fund their ads; it doesn't matter if you think they will attack Democrats next year; it doesn't matter if you don't personally like them.

They are helping defeat Trump et al. Any aid that helps bring Trump down is worth having.

Their videos are great and exact what Donald Trump deserves.  But there are two things at play here.

First, these people laid the groundwork for Trump.
Second, they are partially doing what they are doing because they (especially Rick Wilson) get off on being assholes.   Wilson particularly has repeatedly posted about how much fun he has had in making these videos and in writing his attacks in Trump .

Third, these people are grifters who will follow the money.   Yes they realized there is a better long time future in fighting Trump and backing him, but that is it.

Don't care. Any port in a storm.  This is a bad storm. I know who these people are. They are our allies today. We can save the fussing with them for later. Right now, we need them.

Mentat: The only value Lincoln Project brings is as cannon fodder to draw his wrath.

They are experts at manipulating republican voters and are using it against Trump and his supporters. I'd say that's pretty valuable. Sure they're still assholes, but when it comes to fighting fascism history has shone that a temporary and uneasy alliance with people you hate can get the job done.

Yes, anyone who isn't thrilled with another Democratic President who'll cave to right-wing demands due in part to having the same financial backers as the right wing must want another four years of Trump.

Or, maybe you had a different memory of the McConnell-Boehner co-presidency when we committed even further into Iraq and Afghanistan, continued torturing non-combatants, made the Dubya tax cuts permanent, increased the domestic surveillance state, made irresponsible fracking a staple of domestic energy policy, dramatically increased incarceration and apprehension of undocumented immigrants, and nationalized RomneyCare.

It'll be another McConnell de facto presidency. And that could have been different, but $40 million was spent in out-of-state donations to make sure McConnell faces a clueless patsy in the general election. Won't be surprised to learn that the Lincoln Project donated to Amy McGrath's campaign to ensure that McConnell's seat is safe.

I've got my own issues regarding for whom to vote, btw.

Used to be, all of Scotland was Labour. Then most of it went SNP. And in the next general election, since Labour got a decent leader, there's a chance that since Westminster is FPTP, the SNP and Labour could split the vote, and end up with another Tory in charge at Westminster.

I think I'll just vote SNP, because Johnson's COVID response has been awful, which should suppress the right-wing vote, and my desire to be disassociated from Brexiteer morons means I kind of de facto have to support Scottish nationalism, even if Starmer has done well in showing what a prick Johnson is.

Do you even metaphor? Your stereotypical chainsaw murderer is either Jason or Leatherface. You said to get away from someone with a chainsaw, you would get into a van with Jim Jones.

Do you know Jim Jones?

He started his own totalitarian regime in the jungle of Guyana and killed 918 people with cyanide, 304 of them were children. Jason and Leatherface killed a few teenagers, they don't add up to Jim Jones combined.

Wow, I missed this comment.

No, I'm not eating the candy in your metaphor. I'm in favour of anyone who can convince people that Donald Trump is an asshole. I know he is. I'm not so far from his Balmedie golf course. When I've been having a drink, the notion of pooping in one of the holes has crossed my mind, but I guess I'd have to get a bus to get close enough to do that, and that's slightly difficult.

If you seriously believe that people who are fighting against Donald Trump and trying to show him for the fool he is are against your agenda, you may need to reconsider your agenda.

I am against Donald Trump. I am against Republicans. You should have seen my face when Bush II was elected in 2004. But, if you want to have a functioning adult running the country, you need to run a media campaign for that person. Again, I'm a Brit. I think I'd rather have Warren in the big chair. But however it works out, you need a functional adult running the country, and if that means you have to vote for Biden, against your own instincts, you should farking do it.

The Jim Jones quip was my attempt at being flippant trying to follow your train of thought that included this gem:
I think it's too late. The cyanide has sugar in it and people are telling themselves they'll stop drinking it when the election is over

I'd rather deal with anything The Lincoln Project wants to throw at us when Trump's die-hard base is demoralized, yes. I personally don't see a conservative schism being out of the question but that's just me. I don't give a shiat if you don't want to acknowledge the Lincoln Project, I just don't see the point in lambasting other people for helping their message get around. I REALLY don't get the point of ambushing Rick Wilson and humiliating him by explaining how his faction is just like Trump. Like, no, really dude, EXACTLY AS BAD AS TRUMP. TRUMP AND TLP COULD TOTALLY BREAK BREAD IF TLP STOPPED TRYING TO APPEAL TO THE PEOPLE THAT HATE THEM AND EVERYTHING THEY STAND FOR INSTEAD OF, YOU KNOW, ARGUING COSMETIC DIFFERENCES!

I don't think it's a kooky conspiracy theory that the Democratic Party is giving more sway to its moneyed right wing supporters than it is their on-the-ground voting bloc. Look at the nominee and how the DNC struck down Medicare for All and cannabis legalization - both of which the majority of the country supports - from its policy planks.

Whoa Mom and Dad we can hear you all the way upstairs.

Look, DoBeDo has a point. It's one thing to watch the ads be like HAHAHA NICE the same way watching a wrestling cage match is awesome. But TLP for entertainment, and TLP as something to support with money, is two different things. I love the TLP ads. I would never send them money, because they are deep red Bush Era Republicans who helped to discredit constitutional rule of law, in favour of police discretion and violence in every part of surveillance state life. I am certain that is not an understatement of their purpose.

If we donate money to them today, they will spend it on destroying us tomorrow.

In my wildest fantasies, after Biden is elected, TLP say, "And that is all we need to do for politics, because we have clutched power long enough. The world is different now than when we tried to rule twenty years ago. There is no more money for us to gain, there is no more power that we need to wield. Our wars failed, and we were barely able to deliver our nation's sorry, sickened, broke asses from Trump. Goodbye! We retire, we are going to the beach and never coming back."

Ah, I think you might need to reorder your priorities.

Instead of complaining that the originators are not as pure as you like, perhaps should concentrate on the positive effect they are having

Purity is always more important that accomplishing anything.

Wait for the Schiteshop when Biden picks his VP.

Bennie Crabtree: Whoa Mom and Dad we can hear you all the way upstairs.

I agree with this.

Just please, everyone, let us get rid of Donald Trump before we fall into petty squabbles.

Bennie Crabtree: iron de havilland: DoBeDoBeLurk: I say giving TLP your clicks and your money and your support because they're making free anti-Trump ads is like getting into a van with a a child molester who has free candy.

But you then expect to be taken seriously?

Whoa Mom and Dad we can hear you all the way upstairs.

You don't get the insidiousness of TLP!

To quote your friend:
This a political alliance with a group of Republicans and you can't pretend it's not just because you, personally, only gave them clicks and not real USD. So all you have to fall back on is the idea that it's just for right now and there won't be any consequences.

Good luck with that.

This I can get behind. The only thing about TLP that has made me queasy is when they started openly asking for money.

I love, and support, their ads. I will never send them any money.

Acknowledge that liberals and Lincoln Project republicans share some values. It shouldn't be difficult. A democracy and a monarchy can agree that a despotic nation is a problem.

EyeballKid: DNC struck down Medicare for All

This didn't happen.  Source: https://www.npr.org/2020/07/27/895800425/democrats-meet-virtually-to-approve-platform-that-builds-off-of-biden-sanders-ef

"The draft party document released last week endorses universal health care and makes it clear that low- or no-cost coverage for every American is the party's eventual goal. Rather than backing a single mandatory government-run health insurance program, however, it calls for adding a public option to the existing Affordable Care Act.
The platform does nod to "Medicare for All," the policy backed by Sanders, saying: "We are proud our party welcomes advocates who want to build on and strengthen the Affordable Care Act and those who support a Medicare for All approach.""

Ridiculous. Everyone has an agenda, and so do you. I don't trust your motives any more than I trust TLP's. You have an axe to grind against Biden, and only half-heartedly want to see him elected. The same could be said of TLP.

But nonetheless, I'll take the help where it's found. We owe TLP nothing afterward, and your suggestion that we will is unfounded and without evidence.

Ask John Kerry about a phrase called "swift boating".

I don't recall John Kerry being "sworn in." Maybe I missed something.

Mods: can we ban WaPo links? I won't register on their site. Their ad-wall is a non-starter for me. If they played nice, I'd turn off ad blocker for them (like I do for fark.com).

Those values are, specifically, hating the poor and refusing to help anyone not directly affecting them.

Democrats should use the Lincoln Project until November 4, then treat them like the enemy they are after that. They're not our friends or allies, but what they're doing can help us in the short term. Let them attack their own party if it will give us an advantage.

EyeballKid: "Sure, they're racists and grifters who've spent decades creating the ideal conditions for the current white nationalist fascist state we're in, but they're real sorry, and they make good tee vee! Let's give them just a little more power and influence! They pinky swear they'll only influence the non-fascist party a little bit!"

So, you've got nothing to respond to actual evidence with?  But you're not going to admit to being wrong?

Good to know you can be safely disregarded.

CSB: Rick Wilson blocked me (a nobody) on Twitter.  Probably because I kept point out that he got rich making racist ads for against Max Cleland and Barack Obama.  The man is a professional snowflake.

I'm a progressive voter. I'm used to being disregarded making foolish mistakes with no concern  whatsoever about the long-term.

But hey, bet you're looking forward to going back to brunch!
