We need 90 videos

2020-08-01 3:19:10 PM
I'm actually done with the Lincoln Project.
Their videos are great and exact what Donald Trump deserves.  But there are two things at play here.

First, these people laid the groundwork for Trump.
Second, they are partially doing what they are doing because they (especially Rick Wilson) get off on being assholes.   Wilson particularly has repeatedly posted about how much fun he has had in making these videos and in writing his attacks in Trump .

Third, these people are grifters who will follow the money.   Yes they realized there is a better long time future in fighting Trump and backing him, but that is it.

Don't care. Any port in a storm.  This is a bad storm. I know who these people are. They are our allies today. We can save the fussing with them for later. Right now, we need them.

Ah, I think you might need to reorder your priorities.

Instead of complaining that the originators are not as pure as you like, perhaps should concentrate on the positive effect they are having

This is fine and all, but Obama and Hillary have been living rent-free in Trump's head for four years.  The only thing that held them back were the norms expected of an ex-President and a defeated candidate.  Look at what happened this week when Obama finally took the gloves off.  The entire right-wing lost it's shiat because they're scared to death of him.

The only value Lincoln Project brings is as cannon fodder to draw his wrath.

He's just following the rules:  Then shalt thou count to three, no more-no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.

FTFA: Your house is on fire. Do you care who the firemen are?

If your house is on fire....you should ABSOLUTELY care who the firemen are. For example: they might not know WTF they are doing.

/ also, those lost in the desert should ABSOLUTELY care where their water comes from

The greatest grift of all would be The Lincoln Project convincing you that they were ever on the side of good. They are not.

Sort of like my Vampire run in Total War: Warhammer. The humans and dwarves allied with me to fight Chaos. I committed 15,000 skellies and 20 vampire lords. And then I watched as Chaos absolutely obliterated the humans. I swept in at the last second and saved my allies. But, I used their weakness to expand massively and, eventually, to crush them.

The enemy of my enemy might not be my friend, but that does not mean I must antagonize him or otherwise prevent him from defeating our common enemy.

Funny.

However, back to reality. If this coma guy really voted for Trump in 2016, there is an 85% statistical chance he goes: "wow really? That's fantastic! He has done so much better than I ever imagined! Gosh, I am so happy I've woken up in time for the election so I can vote for him again!"

Most important big picture issue this country faces: regime change this January.

Your points are solid, and I agree with most, except that I'm waiting until Nov 4th to be done with them.

The enemy of my enemy is still my enemy, just a slightly less dangerous one.

I'm with you on all of that, really, especially the last one, but while I'm not excited about it, the assholes are aimed at the right asshole, and if they want to make up for any of this horseshiat, it's an alright place to start. I just hope they have a plan for a (fingers crossed so hard they're separating at the knuckles) post-Trump America that isn't continuing to just post hot takes to rile up whoever holds office afterward. Though, I'm sure if they're willing to broaden their horizons in that field, there's a lot of good mud to sling elsewhere if they can avoid sinking knee-deep into partisan farkery.

The way I look at it, Trump is both a symptom of decades of festering corruption and turning party into a sort of cargo cult by the right, but he is also its current greatest exacrrbator. Virtually anything that can throw Trump off his stride for even a moment is welcome right now, so long as it doesn't make the rest of our lots worse in the process.

They'll turn those big guns on Biden the moment he's sworn in. Count on it.

They may be only wanting to get rid of Trump now because the oaf sucks all the oxygen out of the room and screws up their chances to seek their own elections in 22-24. And if they get back into a majority power, it's back to the same old tax breaks for millionaires/f*ck everybody else platform. As far as they're concerned, Trump's only sin was that he says GOP's quiet parts out loud.

And using the article's own "firemen" bullsh*t metaphor, I'd like to hope those firemen arrived to put out the fire once and for all and NOT there just to burglarize the place of all it's valuables once the fire's been put out.

There's no downside

All this concern trolling about the Lincoln Project's long-term goals

Ever hear of "enemy of my enemy"?

The Lincoln Project and the left can enjoy a truce as they both go after their hated common enemy: Donald Trump

Then things will go back to business as usual and they can start attacking each other again

Man, I sure don't trust that Lincoln Project. As a Democrat, I mean. I understand that if their anti-Trump ads are allowed to continue and they work, then later they could possibly turn against us, the Democrats, once we take power. Also Joe Biden is thinking of making The Lincoln Project his Vice President.

As Democrats, which I am one of, we should all condemn these effective ads we are getting at no cost.

Maybe, but they would irregardless, so why not use them to take down the greater evil.  I'm not even sure that them taking down Biden is likely, they are making buys trying to remove weal Republican Senators.  Maybe 10 years from now, yeah, but right now they are focused on eradicating Trumpism.

Stuart Stevens "It was All a Lie" seems like a pretty bridge-burning Fark You to the Republican party.  Gotta make space for people to come over to the right side, even if they did things in the past you hated.

Here it is from the horse's mouth:

But Schmidt, who it's fair to say is disgusted by Trump, is unapologetic about his life's work. Yes, he urged McCain to pick Sarah Palin as his running mate, a decision ultimately driven by politics. But no, he's not renouncing the Republican Party as he knew it.
"I think a good sign of being an idiot in life is believing that all virtue is vested in one of these political parties and all evil in the other," he says. He rejects those who say he should be ashamed of the past: "The necessity for an act of atonement against conviction is self-righteous and smug at a level that beggars my ability to describe it in the English language. And I would suggest that they're part of the problem, not so much part of the solution."

They're not sorry and the people who think the Republican Party is evil or even that they should be sorry are idiots, and self-righteous and smug.

Sure, they screwed up. For the last fifty years or so. But no point dwelling on the past. We both hate Trump. We're friends now.

They're willing to say they hate everything to do with Trump, but they won't apologize and they won't change.

Listen, if their ads are aimed only at Republicans and they're not trying to get you on board their "sorry, not sorry" wagon, they don't need you to share their ads. Let Republicans share them with Republicans. Republican voters have spent a lot of time and energy inoculating themselves against anything a Democrat believes. So help these folks out by not tainting them with your association.
