buckwebb: I think he believes that the only way to win is to get out there and talk.  He can't do his rallies, so he needs outlet to talk to the MAGA.  I can't believe his campaign team thinks any of this was a good idea.

But he wants to do it so they have to let him.

Someone suggested that these interviews are basically his debate prep.

Xcott: italie: He's toast.

//well, in his case, a whole loaf of toast

He's come across like this in lots of interviews, including the recent Chris Wallace interview.  Shouldn't he have been toast a long time ago?

He's clearly getting worse. Even if his base doesn't care we should still discuss the fact that the President mind is degrading right out in public.

Sin'sHero: shastacola: This is the Jonathan Swan interview that's going to air on HBO on Monday. By all accounts it's an absolute disaster for Trump.

When does Barr order HBO to shut down? I'm guessing Monday, around 11:30am ET.

Why bother, half their subscribers can't get on HBO Max at the moment

The question isn't to wonder how bad the interview will be - we know it's going to be a slow-motion train wreck. Instead, wonder what Trump will do tomorrow and Monday to distract from it.

Meh. His base will love it.  This is how their minds work too. His support will fall to 15% when he loses.  The only thing a fascist won't tolerate is losing.

With shows like Westworld and watchmen which try to be hip and woke, only libs have HBO. Which is fine because they are all unemployed sucking of my taxes instead of finding work.

Then on the other hand, you'll have conservatives who will watch this and be like "Squirm, libbies, squirm!"

They dont care or even think hes smart or good at anything. The only thing they care about is stigginit. This will in no way dissuade them from that now-prime directive. So long as they can make you tear your hair out, theyre winning as far as theyre concerned. And they will just as soon burn it all down than let a liberal gain an inch.

Good gawd. "100s of Millions of Dollars"? That's, nothing, in the face of this crisis. Trillions of dollars are floating around right now trying to combat this thing and they're talking about figurative pennies spent on law enforcement and constitutionally mandated oversight.

They're morons. All of them. Utter morons.

shoegaze99: Metastatic Capricorn: Most of all, he knows his stuff and can follow up... something sadly lacking in reporters these days.

This is something that drives me nuts about so many current journalists and interviewers. Being prepared for follow-ups is a fundamental part of the process. If you can't follow up, you're not doing your job well.

And with Trump it should be EASY, since his responses and non-responses are very predictable. You know how he is going to respond to most challenges, so you should have your follow-ups already in mind going into it. Calling his bullshiat is not difficult, but too few do it.

Sure, he's going to try and bully you for it. So what? Let him melt down. His flock will love it, yeah, but that needn't be your concern. The job is to press for truth.

Watch Team Twitler have a giant, huge, tremendous bigly book the likes you've never seen on the podium with Don Donald during Monday's presser. In big letters it will be title "Manual"

/ He'll point, "I read this", meaning the title in bold letters.

Watching our president being a farking idiot isn't entertaining to me. We all know he's an idiot. (shrug) I guess for those who were not aware of it (which casts serious doubt on THEIR intelligence) this might be useful. And then there's the rest of "liberal" media that continues to "both sides" everything and refuses to acknowledge who's to blame for this clusterfark. So ...

SoupJohnB: Target Builder: This is a preview of the "debates". Expect a LOT of Trump talking over and interrupting Biden with ineffective moderation except for talking down Biden when Trump is answering questions.

Then the MSM will act like Trump is so in control, and Biden didn't have a response to anything.

Biden just needs to play the same game he's playing now: Keep those drives straight down the fairway while Trump creates his own hazards and flounders around in them,

I would very much like to be asked a question during their town hall debate. It would be: 'Mr. Trump my name is Standard. Over the last four years you've used the phrase "many people are saying" thousands of times. Can you name a single American you've met in the last four years?"

Except you're never going to get the truth out of Trump. Most of the time he doesn't even know what the truth is because he doesn't care. His life and persona consist entirely of weasel words and BS. Maybe if you managed to interview him under penalty of legal perjury you might drag a handful of items out of him but even then he mostly couldn't answer because he doesn't know jack shiat.

That farking POS. Every business jackass I dealt with while being dragged around by my real-estate conman grandfather for reasons that in hindsight were sickening would reference Norman Vincent Peale. Pseudo-fascism meets business-jargon meets spiritualism and Christianity is basically Norman Vincent Peale. The guy was one civil war away from recreating the Teiping Heavenly Kingdom as every white 1970s business guy was a big fan. Don Don likely read his book and yes Don Don can and does read -- he just reads garbage like this.

Mary Trump's book has a good perspective on it. She describes Norman Vincent Peale's work as "proto-prosperity gospel."
